It's the fabulous Joanne's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a color challenge for us:
Those of you who have been visiting my blog for a while, know that color challenges are tough for me. I seem to stick with the same group of colors and everything else is outside of my wheelhouse. Orange – in any shade – is definitely one of those "challenging" colors – as is Early Espresso. Not that I don't like the colors – it's just that I don't gravitate to them. And that, is the reason that I LOVE color challenges – they force me to do something different.
I wanted to keep this card very clean and very simple. I also don't have anything that is Peach Peekaboo – to be honest, I don't think I have Peach anything! But I remembered that I did have some pearls. So, I had to find a stamp set that I could use the pearls with.
I remembered that I had a new, unused set from Altenew called Sweet Friend and that it had a lovely frame that I thought would work with the pearls. I stamped the frame in Crushed Curry and then used the little peach pearls in the frame – take a look. They look very sweet!
You can see that I HAD to add a little glimmer to the frame, too. It's amazing how much use out get out of a glimmer pen that I picked up at Michaels years ago on a whim!
This card came together so easily. I stamped the sentiment in the middle of my card base and then stamped the frame and die-cut it. I then used my thin foam strips from Stampin' Up! to raise the frame up from the card base. All I had to do was add a few pearls and some glimmer with my glimmer pen and I was done.

I love the simplicity of the card – it allows the sentiment and the frame to take center stage and I think highlights the colors – they really do look good together and the peach lightens and lifts the earthy tones of the Early Espresso.

On a personal note:
I had intended to post a couple of times during the week, but the events of last weekend in Vegas really bothered me. Especially on top of Harvey and Irma and Maria – and now this. I really do not understand what makes someone do something like that. I can only hope that there is some special spot in hell for people who do this. My heart and prayers go out to all those who were affected by these awful events. I agree with Colleen's comment… all I could do was feel numb. Consequently, I just couldn't post!
I will be back with more cards this week. I did manage to spend some time in my craft room today looking out at the autumnal colors starting to appear in the wetland. This morning was cold, wet and rainy – and really reminded me of England. It was the kind of cold and wet that got right into your bones and froze the marrow! However, this afternoon was absolutely glorious. The sun came out, pushed away the clouds, dried the rain and the golden, rust colored leaves looked like little jewels in the sun.

I think many people are feeling the way you do about Las Vegas. It’s kind of like 911, our world as we knew it changed, and it has once again.
My son knew someone who was shot, but he is doing ok. He will need more surgeries though.
So many lives will be affected forever. It’s so sad and heartbreaking.
But when I see and hear about so many hero’s and how everyone worked together, how much love was there that night, I see the hope and I see the good too.
I am so with you on oranges. I don’t think I’ve broken out Peeakaboo Peach except for DT cards and I can’t believe I’ve got a whole packet of it – unopened – since it was released! This is such a lovely card – understated and elegant. Sometimes you just need to send someone a pick-me-up and this is perfect for it. It is very sad to read in the news of such tragic events in the USA and that they keep recurring. Hugs.

Jaydee; I must say, you make the most beautiful cards and this is no exception.
Sometimes we all get into a rut and it’s nice to go outside of the box every now and then. The pretty pearls make for a nice addition.

Going to be in the mid 90’s once again today but then our temperature is to drop about 50 deg. this evening and early morning hours with good chance of some showers which means I have some plants that need to be getting in the ground today.

Jaydee what a beautifully CAS card. The frame is gorgeous and is perfectly accented by your peach pearls. It’s cold and rainy here in New York too, downright dismal!

I find colour challenges more tricky too Jaydee and love the way you used my colours this week. That glittery frame is fabulous and really focuses in on that sentiment beautifully. I don’t use orange often either, usually only at this time of year; I was amused to be chatting to a friend a little while ago who confessed that she had never ever bought a pack of orange cardstock in all her 10 years as an SU! demo, which must be some kind of record! Sorry to hear you’ve been having your share of British weather – it’s been rather cold and wet here too lately. As for Vegas – there really are no words for these senseless acts, so very sad. Great way to incorporate those colors, Jaydee…no one would know they weren’t at the top of your favorite list! The big bold statement looks awesome framed like that!
A perfect CAS card with a lovely sentiment as the focus. I like the added pearls to bring in the peachy color. I always freeze up a little bit with color challenges, but like you, I enjoy that it “eventually” gets me out of my color comfort zone. You can teach an old dog new tricks! I too have struggled with the events lately! I just don’t understand how this can happen. I always look for the good in everyone and you never know what others are thinking all around you. So many families have been devastated lately by current events. And now the fire in CA. So SAD! I continue to pray for everyone! Love to you! XX
I am the same way, I would never choose these colours together but every one KNOCKED them out of the park! LOVE the shimmer you added – such a pretty CAS card!
