Wild Hibiscus for Just Us Girls

Hi Everyone.  Happy Friday.

Quick post for you tonight.  I have a card and a couple of photos for you 🙂

First – let's start with the card.  The challenge across at Just Us Girls this week is a technique challenge:

Considering I am on such a watercolor kick, how could I not participate in this challenge 🙂

I began with a piece of Canson watercolor paper and some white embossing powder.  Stamping the flowers and leaves with Versamark and setting them with white embossing powder provides a great starting point for my Zig brush watercolor pens.  I love these pens as you can get very accurate placement… I know…. that's not what you are supposed to do with watercoloring – but I really do love the control they provide.  Once I had water colored the flowers and leaves, I set them aside and let them dry.  The last thing I did was create a watercolored background in the corner, add the sentiment and to add some splatters.

Here's my card:

How about a closeup?

Notice the texture in the middle of the flower?  That's a mixture of white and black Pico Irresistibles.  I love the effect they give.

On a personal note:

Still hot and humid and we have had some torrential rains.  I can honestly say that I don't remember such a long, hot, humid spell before.  The mosquitoes are everywhere – even during the day.  The birds are enjoying having access to clean water and plenty of shade provided by the flowers and trees.

The flowers are bigger than I can remember them, too.  The Bergamot is prevalent this year and I was talking to the maintenance team from Prairie Resto and they were staying that they are noticing it everywhere in their prairie gardens this year.   Want to see how tall the Bee Balm has gotten?

Whittail and bee balm (1 of 1)

Yep… it really is as high as a deer's eye!  There was something she liked in there and couldn't help herself from nibbling at.

The woodpeckers are still around – and we are so happy they stay with us.  They provide us with so much entertainment.

Twins (1 of 1)

I'll be back with my Paper Players card tomorrow.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight – and you know who you are.

Hugs
Jaydee
