I hope you all had wonderful week and are all staying warm. It's freezing cold here, but the sun is shining and it really is beautiful. It certainly was tough driving around though as the snow turned into black ice and made the roads very, very slick. On Thursday we were out and about and a trip that would normally take 40 minutes took 2.5 hours!
Anyway, it's the fabulous Ann's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a glorious color challenge for us.
This color challenge was a fabulous spring/summer combo and really made me long for the longer days of spring and summer 🙂
I really wanted to use some of my new SU Occasions catalog goodies and realized that the new butterfly die would be fabulous with the two primary colors behind it.
I started by die-cutting a mask and laid it down onto my card base. I then used Lost Lagoon and Crisp Cantaloupe as the colors for the negative areas and then die-cut another butterfly using vellum to cover the negative areas. It's such a pretty die and I thought was perfect for the colors that Ann chose.

Lost Lagoon and Crisp Cantaloupe are fabulous with Sahara Sand. Not a color scheme I would generally have combined, but they really work so well together.

On a personal note:
We had a very special guest staying with us this week and it was wonderful spending time with her 🙂 Sadly, she absolutely hates the cold and we were averaging 20 below in the evening… not much fun for someone who thinks anything below 85 is cold 🙂 However, she did enjoy this fabulous city, the shopping, the dining and the movie theatre 🙂
On Tuesday we went to see "The Imitation Game" – a movie that highlights the life – and briefly touches – on the talents of Alan Turing. Lou and I are both computer engineers by trade and Alan Turing is a source of fascination for us, however, his contribution to the decoding of German messages during World War II was the feature of the movie. This was right on the tail of our trip to Bletchley Park when we were in England a couple of weeks ago. It's a place we have wanted to visit for a number of years and it was an amazing trip.
In this era of instantaneous communication – where almost nothing is secret – it's astonishing to view the fight against the German forces during a time when everything was analog. One of the interactive exhibits at Bletchley was to sit and listen for incoming transmissions and then decode the morse code. I found that my adrenalin was flowing and I was intensely focused on this radio…. I really was amazed just how engrossed I became in what is a very basic task and I was acutely aware of how great a task the radio operators around the UK had. It really was an amazing day.
Whilst we were there, we got to see "the Bombe" in action. You can see a short video describing how this machine was used to decode German transmissions. We also got to visit the major huts where so much of the work was undertaken at Bletchley. In addition, they had a small display of outfits and items used by the actors for the movie "The Imitation Game".
On a crafting note: I did get to spend a little time in my craft room today – the first visit I have had all week and got to play with some new goodies. Consequently, I will have a couple of cards to share with you this week 🙂

This is something that I would never have imagined to do – thank you for showing us how incredible it looks to use our framelits as templates! I will be playing with this one soon! I love your CAS card, which is the most difficult card to do well, and you do them to perfection!

Such a clever idea to use that beautiful butterfly as a mask then to cut a vellum version over the top! Gorgeous card! Have you seen the UK TV show called The Bletchley Girls? It’s set after the war ends. Really good show!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching Bletchley Circle, so I was really interested in seeing The Imitation Game. I thought it was wonderful. Thanks for your perspective on visiting where it all took place. It must have added a whole new dimension to watching the movie.
