Hi Everyone. Happy Sunday.
It's the very talented – and all round amazing person – Anne-Marie's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and I have to say that it is wonderful to have AM back in the saddle at the Paper Players after a well deserved hiatus. It's also the first challenge of 2015 and we introduce three new design team members and three new guest designers. This very talented group of ladies will be bringing some new and exciting takes on our challenges and we are delighted to have them on board.
So, to start of 2015 what does AM have in store for us?
Now, you would think this challenge was easy for me….. BUT…. I am one of those people who constantly clears out goodies as they come into the house and I found myself at a bit of a loss. However, I went upstairs to the bedroom and remembered that I had a little box in my bed side drawer that held captive a very pretty pair of earrings that Lou had purchased for me on his trip back from Costa Rica just before we went to England.
No… I didn't use the earrings on my card 🙂 but I did use the very pretty bling-y ribbon butterfly that graced the box that housed the earrings!
So, I used the butterfly as my starting point and pulled out a piece of old DSP as the base of my card and found a perfect sentiment in one of the new pre-order sets from the new Occasions catalog.
Here's my card with my recycled butterfly.
The ribbon on the butterfly was almost exactly the same color as the SU Tempting Turquoise ink, so that was the color that I used for my sentiment. The sentiment from the new "Painted Petals" set was perfect. I wanted a soft feel to the card base, so used Blushing Bride. It fits very well with the pale pink on the DSP and I think is a feminine backdrop to the butterfly.
I do hope you will play along with us this week – and also check out the amazing inspiration cards from our expanded design team.
On a personal note:
Well, winter is definitely not letting go of his grasp! Temps are due to drop down into the MINUS 30 range tonight. I know I have said this before, and I will say it again, how the birds manage to adapt from +90 to -30 continues to astound me. Everytime I see a chickadee or a sparrow or a goldfinch, I am amazed by their resilience. Everytime I see – or hear – a Pileated Woodpecker, I am astonished by how prehsitoric they look – and this ability to weather extremes of temperatures reminds me of why they have been around so long. I never cease to be awed by the nature that surrounds us and feel blessed every day.
I'll be back tomorrow with another card for you and it's another one using goodies from the new Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalog. I really do think that the offerings from this SAB are some of the best that we have had and the "Irresistibly Yours" paper is one of my favorites. I have had such fun making cards with this paper and can't believe that it is on offer as one of the freebies.
Over the next couple of weeks you will be seeing multiple projects made with this DSP as well as the stamp sets: "From the Herd", "Lotus Blossom", "Painted Petals", "Big on You", "Big Day", "Moon Lake" and "Sheltering Tree". As part of my 2015 resolutions, I have also been trying to use up my card stock and inks from colors that I generally avoid! So, be prepared for yellows, blues, blackberry and…. yes…. even PINK!!!! 🙂
As always, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift today.
Hugs
Jaydee

Jaydee – this is stunning! I love the layout you used and actually thought that you had created that butterfly before I read the details. That is some pretty fancy packaging for a pair of earrings! I am now ready for spring after seeing your beautiful card this AM – we had some snow last night so there is a blanket of white on the ground now and we are getting ready for our own arctic blast this week *sigh*
