Postal Collage Wildbirds for Paper Players #743

Happy Sunday.

It's the fabulous Elizabeth's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it's clean and simple week.  Elizabeth chose one of my favorite challenges and it inspired me to ink up the Postal Collage Wild Birds set from Waffle Flower.

Here's a sneak peek:

And here is our challenge badge for this week:

Oh, I just love the challenge of a one layer card!  To create my card I began by masking off an area at the top of my card base.  I then used my inks to blend a late sunset sky.  I used the stamps from the Waffle Flower Wild Birds set that are really meant for the Postal Collage set, but work just as well on their own.  I stamped the birds in black, removed the masking, added a sentiment and the card was complete!

Here's my full card:

As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:

On a personal note:

Well, I am glad no-one can see my crafting space right now it looks like a tornado went through it!  I am busy resorting all of my supplies and putting them in their place.  Now, that I have been working in the space for a few months I know what works and what doesn't.  Also, I've gotten some fabulous new supplies over the last few months for anniversary, Christmas, birthday and the contents from the happy crafty box that I was lucky to get from Jennifer McGuire.  So, it's time to go through my goodies and decide what goes to a new home and what stays.   Purging is perfect when doing a reorg!

As for the house, the garden is green and lush.  Well, apart from one area where the previous owners put in a massive (illegal) fire pit that we now have to try to deal with as it is a big, empty space!  The lushness means that we have seen lots of new critters visit the area including our first Opossum.  He/she visited us last night for the first time.

We have also been blessed with 3 little babies of the deer variety!  A single with one mom and a twin pair for the other.  Lou managed to capture these shots from his office window the other day.  Here's mom with her two babies.

Aren't they adorable – all legs and spots!

Also, we finally managed to entice the pileated woodpecker.  Oh, I have missed these guys.  They are one of my all time favorite birds.  We had them in our old house and it's taken a few months to get them to visit the feeders at the new house.  Not the best photo as I was on my phone…. but she really is gorgeous!

And, because you haven't see photos of the fur babies for a while…. Here's my old man Charlie – hard to believe it's been nearly 16 years since he first graced our door.  Lou picked him up at the junction of some corn fields miles from town where he had been dumped as a pretty young kitten.  The vet determined he was less than 5 months old and had his claws cut so short that he wouldn't have been able to catch food.  Lou was out for a ride on his bicycle and when he stopped at the junction, this little black and white kitten came out of the corn fields to greet him.  Lou cycled home, got me, the car and a cat carrier and we picked him up.  I searched high and low for a new home for him, but, as it was the height of kitten season, he ended up staying with us and I am so glad he did.

He has a sling bed on my crafting desk and basks in the sun.  I just love this photo of him all bathed in sunlight:

And here is a photo of Chilli in his new bed.  This bed is 35 x 26 and he just about fills the whole thing!!!!

I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

  1. I love your nature-themed one-layer card! Your blending is perfect! And all your critters are so much fun to see too! I can’t decide if my favorite is the deer or the pileated! Love them all!

  2. The deer are wonderful, as is your card! Such a classic one layer card technique and one that I love. Your sunset sky is rich and warm while the bird silhouette is striking. Lovely card. 🙂

  3. Such pretty blending on your birdie card! Love, love the pictures of your cats. tfs

  4. Beautiful one-layer card, Jaydee! I have the Wild Bird set too and there are so many possibilities with it, but I love your choice of the masked, ink blended evening sky. Thank you for sharing the wildlife photos as well as your beautiful kitties!

  5. I love this week’s card, Jaydee! The blended sky is striking against the white. The silhouettes are a dramatic touch. This is an amazing stamp set…I have loved everything you have made with it. Great pictures of Charlie and Chilli!

  6. Your card is a great reminder of how a single strip can be so impactful. I love your kitties (and how you acquired Charlie) and the pics of the wildlife! That woodpecker is amazing and the baby deer are so cute!
