A Dozen Thoughts Hexagon for Casestudy

Hi Everyone.

You might remember that I used the inspiration from casestudy for my last post and that I had said I was inspired enough to make two cards 🙂

I think it's easy to see the inspiration:-)  I really wanted to use the new A Dozen Thoughts set.  This "just because" sentiment has such a great font… and a fabulously versatile sentiment.  I paired it with some metallic gold card stock and a piece of webster's pages DSP.  I used my two SU butterfly punches for the butterflies.  Here's my second card:

I popped the hexagon layer with clear foam tape on the DSP layer.  I then added a thin white border to separate it from the base layer, which is also metallic gold.   I love the softness of it 🙂

On a personal note:

The house still feels quiet since our guests left.  I really do think it is going to take a little while for us to get back into a normal routine.  I know that they would have loved the weather today.  It was warm, but with little humidity.  The sun was shining, but not too strong.  There was a slight breeze, and no rain.  In otherwords, PERFECT!

One of the trips that we did was to visit Burr Oak.  One of the "towns" famous for Laura Ingalls Wilder.  We visited the town….  well, I think they call it a town.  I know that I was frustrated because our GPS system couldn't find it, so I had to navigate the old fashioned way – with a map!  When we got to Burr Oak, I understood why the GPS couldn't find it.  It's a very small town with no stop street.  It was absolutely delightful to take a step back in time and see the old Inn and bank.  They had a cut out in the street, and R and P & R were happy to pose 🙂

isn't that fun :-)  It was really an instructional tour through the hotel and another memory that they will have of this great country.

One of the surprises we had on our way back was the Mississippi.  Now…. at this point we aren't THAT far from the headwaters of the Mississippi river.  By the time it had reached Red Wing – the river was at the canopy of the trees.  Many of the towns had been flooded.  In the 20 years that we have lived here, I have NEVER seen the Mississippi anything close to this.

take a look at the opposite bank… that really is the river all the way up the trunk of the trees and even some of the lower branches of the canopy are under water.  amazing.

I wanted to share these two photos from our visit to the Seed Farm in Iowa.  I laughed when I saw this sign…. a way to try to show us that Dandelions are, in fact, a food!

And this photograph of some of the plants they are cultivating warmed my heart… how pretty is this?

And how typically mid-western is this view of one of the farm buildings?

It really was such a gorgeous drive and we had a fun couple of days in this fabulous part of the tri-state area.

Back at home, I managed to catch this shot yesterday:

The hummers never cease to give me pleasure.  I love it when I'm standing on the deck and get buzzed by two of them having a territorial dispute!  They move so fast, their wings are so noisy and they squeak!  Sadly, our prairie flower area doesn't look quite like the one at the seed farm!  We are still at the point where we are getting a lot of weeds and the prairie is trying to come into its own.  We know we will get there, but will need a little help.  Regardless of whether it is "perfect prairie" or not, the birds, the bees, the dragonflies and other assorted insects and fauna are loving it.  That's what matters:-)

I thought I would give you an update on three of the trees that we put in…. the River Birch are really doing well – and doing their job of providing us with some privacy.

In fact, all of the trees that we have put in this year seem to be doing really well.  We are hoping for some great fall color this year.   Oh… NO… I don't want to talk about FALL yet….. No… I won't mention that… I'm still trying to enjoy summer!

On that note, I want to say thank you to all of you who visit – and take the time to leave me a comment or send me an email and let me know that you enjoy the photos.  I REALLY do appreciate that you take the time.  Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.  Prayers also for the families of yet another Malaysian Airlines plane.  As a person who has spent thousand of hours on planes (including MA), and living with a husband who still spends thousands of hours on a plane, it's always a worry.  The last couple of months have certainly highlighted just how catastrophic air travel can still be.
