Quick post for you tonight. I have to go write Christmas cards. Well, it's about time I sent the ones I've spent all this time making, right? 🙂
Unscripted Sketches has a great sketch for us this week.
The minute I saw it, I knew that it was a perfect opportunity to use one of my newly arrived goodies. In fact, I ended up using 3 different new goodies on this card – so 3 sneak peeks for the price of one tonight!
When I was looking for challenges, I noticed a site that collects hand-made cards for sick children. Now, knowing what a great group of blog friends I have, I thought some of you might be interested in this organization. Here's the link to Send a Smile 4 Kids.
This sounds like a great cause and I thought about the fact that I generally make kiddy-kids cards. You know, you kids. However, kids also fall into the older category, so I decided to make some cards suitable for teenagers. As this sketch focuses so much on the sentiment, I thought it was versatile – and perfect for this cause.
I used the new Hexagon Hives plate. I love it… but do have a couple of hints when using it. I'll post those separately in a tips document in a couple of days. I paired it with some new Watercolor Wonder DSP – which, I love by the way. Then, I remembered that there are some new embellishments Essentials Wooden Elements. A heart is one of the elements and pairs perfectly with a little bee from another sneak peek – Springtime Hello. So, scratch what I originally said – this makes it FOUR sneak peeks!

Isn't that hexagon fabulous? I love that it punches out some and not all. This is another one of those things that I was looking at contraband… and was thrilled that I had waited. The fact that it pairs so beautifully with the little bee was an added bonus. The fact that I could stamp on the wooden element with StazOn and that the bee was the perfect size… another bonus!!! I am totally in love with most of the sheets from the Watercolor Wonders DSP. I paired it with Tangerine Tango as a base and the hive is cut from Crushed Curry. It's bright and cheerful and I think works very well with one of my old go-to sentiments, "Wishing you a day bright with sunshine".
Overall, I was pleased with the card and the little element is super cute. I took my gel pen and went over the wings of the bee to give them a little glimmer and shine.

On a personal note:
It continues to be between -20 and -30. I really don't know how the birds survive these massive drops in temperature over the year. From above 100 to below 30. Absolutely astonishing!
We continue to provide water and food and housing for them during winter. They are loving the fact that we put in the cedars this year. They really do provide some warmth and shelter for them. The Juncos have stayed around this winter, whereas they didn't last year, because there was just nowhere for them to roost.
Now.. I'm off to do Christmas cards. I always play Christmas Carols when I write Christmas cards. It puts me in the Christmas mood! Big shout out to Colleen B tonight for the beautiful Christmas card that she sent to Lou and I. Thank you, Colleen. It was our first Christmas card and it really is gorgeous!

Texas – the icy state :}
Many gas stations are out of gas due to the gas trucks not being able to get around.
Grocery store shelves are getting empty; no bread on the shelves. Oh, it’s a mess here
No mail delivery for 3 days and freezing my you know what off.
I love your card! Thanks for the sneak peeks. My husband dropped my bird feeder from the deck rail, two stories high. It landed under the azaleas, so I trudged through the snow to retrieve it for my birds. Half of the sunflower chips emptied out & now the juncos, towhees, chipmunks, and squirrels have an unexpected treat. My husband has plowed four times since Thursday! It’s cold but at least all my birds have plenty of food — fruit and nut mix, sunflower chips, safflower seeds, ground mix, and lots of suet. Colleen, I feel for you! I don’t know how anyone can stand -30 degree cold. It was -100 at an Antarctica station yesterday. Yikes! Stay warm, my friends! Nancy B in Cincinnati, OH

I love yellow and I love that sentiment! Big kid cards are in that in-between area of hard to make and REALLY hard to make (for me at least). I think this is cheery and fun! :o)
