Santa’s List for Paper Players #173

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

It's my turn to host the challenge at the Paper Players this week and I thought it might be fun to do something other than a rectangular card!    For some reason I seem incapable of doing anything other than a rectangular card…. I rarely do square and I almost NEVER do a round card.  

So, here's the challenge for this week:

You really have to check out the amazing cards the Design Team came up with.  There really is some fabulous inspiration for you, and I really hope you will play along with us.   There are so many shapes using an ecutter or nestabilities.  However, you can find all sorts of templates out there on the internet or, you can do what I did.  

I downloaded the MDS version of Santa's List and sized him 4" tall by 4 3/4" wide and printed him out onto cardstock.   I then colored him with my Copic markers and was ready to add the finishing touch.   

I used my Versamark pen on the areas of his beard and the fur around his coat, sleeves and hat.  I took some Heat and stick and heated it up with my heat gun and covered those areas in Glitter.  I did small pieces at a time to make sure the Heat and Stick ws still warm.  

Once I had done that, I put a square piece of card stock behind the image – about an inch bigger than the image all the way around and then adhered the two pieces together using temporary glue.  I took my paper snips and snipped all the way around him EXCEPT for across the bottom.  I wanted a straight line there and used my guillotine trimmer to give me that straight line.

I then took the bottom piece and scored it at the top – in line with his ears and folded it with my bone folder.   I used really strong sticky tape along the top part of the back of the focal image and also the base of the card above the score line.   This allowed me to create a top folding card and Santa would sit on the table top.

Here's what he ended up like:

I photographed him against the chair on the front porch and it really helps to highlight the shape of him.  The longest part of making this card was coloring him and adding the glitter on the heat and stick.  Cutting him out was a breeze, because he is such a large image and there are no fussy areas.  I promise he is straight across the bottom – it's just the angle of the photo 🙂

On a personal note:

I got a little time to spend in my stamping space today, but didn't get much accomplished!  I will be spending more time in there tomorrow, though.

It's cold… really cold here.  It was windy and chilly, but the sun was shining.  The birds were all taking advantage of a little bit of sun in sheltered areas.  I knew exactly how they felt!  

One of the bird houses in the woodland area seems to be a "hot spot" – literally!  There is always someone sunbathing there.  Today I caught this little guy:

It must have been the hottest place in the woodland, because several squirrels, including the black squirrel and a couple of birds "time-shared" the top of the box!

Well, I need to go and wake up sleeping beauty!  He's working all the way through the night tonight, so has been taking a nap and I need to feed him before he starts work.
