Hi everyone. Happy Friday.
Hope you have all had a great week. Me? I am so looking forward to 4 days at home. Yep! I have Monday and Tuesday off, so that means a long weekend and time to get into my stamping space!
Lou has just returned home from 2.5 weeks in China, so I am going to make this a quick post and then go and cook dinner 🙂
When I was "attending" the last onlinecardclasses course, Tim Holtz used a product called embossing paste. I was pretty taken with this as a product and couldn't wait to try it. I saw it used with a circle stencil and had this idea in my head to use it for a Christmas card. It takes a little while to dry – about an hour – but I love the way it turned out.
I used a set from PTI called Layered Postmarks that I bought last year and layered the elements over the top of the dry embossing paste. I love it, but now want to try adding glitter to it. You can also die it, so I think it has lots of potential 🙂
Here's my card:
I stamped the holly image in Gumball Green onto whisper white card stock and then fussy cut around the leaves. I then stamped the text image in Early Espresso over the top of two of the leaves. On the third one, I turned it over and stamped the sentiment in Cherry Cobbler. I used my itty bitty circle punch to punch out three berries from the red glimmer paper.
I didn't apply the embossing paste perfectly, but I think it still looks ok. I really do love the texture that it gives to the whisper white layer. :-) I popped the leaves on Stampin' Dimensionals to lift them from the textured layer and mounted the whole front piece onto Cherry Cobbler card stock. The last thing I did before adhering the middle leaf, was run my Gumball Green marker around the edges, just to give it a slight green tinge on the edges. I was really pleased with the way the card came out.
Before I go, I wanted to share a couple of shots I took of Charlie on "his" couch. Seriously, this couch is over 9' long and its owned by a cat that weighs less than 7#! I saw him stretched out with his head over the back of the couch watching the bird feeder. He was chittering at a purple finch.
He noticed that I was trying to take a photograph of him and decided that it was more intersting than watching the bird.
Seriously, could that cat look any more comfortable? He's taken the cushion and made a wonderful hammock of it!
He then decided that he might as well turn over completely and check out what I was doing.
He really is a cutie pie. The vets don't think so! He's my constant companion and is never more than a few feet from me almost all day and all night. I'm so pleased that we decided to keep him after Lou found him!
I also wanted to share a couple of shots I took the other evening as the sun was setting over the woodland and wetland. The wetland has taken on a gorgeous rusty hue as the grasses turn from bright green to their fall colors. The leaves have almost all gone on the threes and Georgina – the groundhog – is fast asleep in her burrow, safe and sound in our little bit of woodland.
Whilst Lou was away, I met with the arborist as we will be putting in more trees. Most of the trees in our woodland area are Ash and we know that, with the progression of the Emerald Ash Borer, the trees will be at risk within the next couple of years, so we really want to bring in some diversity this year and next to help compensate for that. We also want to bring in more color during the fall season. It's going to be fun watching him come in with his massive tree spade again!
Before I go, I wanted to give a special shout out to Sandy, Michelle, Terri, Colleen, Kelly, Rosemary and Rach for their comments on this card. I really appreciate the positive feedback and it's you, and all the other fabulous crafters who leave me comments, that keep this blog going 🙂
Warm hugs and prayers to all of you who need a little lift tonight.
I'll be back tomorrow with my Paper Players card. In the meantime, I'm off to enjoy a little time with my honey!
Hugs
Jaydee

How ’bout two Colleen comments? 😉 Would love to see a pix of this embossing paste! Love the effect it gives to the bg. I often just roll my edges across the ink pad to give the edges color; so easy. Love the understatement of your card! Colleen in Montana
What an awesome technique, Jaydee! I love the texture it imparts.
What a wonderful technique; looks like it gives it a very nice texture look / feel to it.
Great looking card Jaydee; simple and yet elegant.
Charlie is adorable and looks so very comfy on ‘his’ sofa. :}
Welcome home Lou.
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for sharing your photos.

Lovely, simple eye catching card. Love it.
The pictures are super. Charlie is so interesting and lucky to have you. Enjoy all your pictures.
We have a beautiful bush that turns red in the fall and is glorious to watch. I don’t know the name of it but it is quite popular in CT. It would look great in your woodland.

That’s such a neat embossing technique! I really like the three holly leaves and the way you incorporated the white one by edging it in green. And, red glimmer paper? How could you go wrong with red glimmer paper??
Oh, sweet Charming Charlie! :o) What a face–I just adore his little face and those markings. :o)
I can’t wait to see photos of the trees being planted–that digger is INCREDIBLE! And, how wonderful and forward thinking of you guys to want to embellish the habitat you have for a time when the ash trees may be gone. Brilliant!
Hugs!
P.S. Welcome home, Lou! :o)
