Hi Everyone. Happy Thursday.
As part of the class that I'm attending through onlinecardclasses I'm trying to make cards every day. Trying…. but not always succeeding! However, I did manage to make a couple of cards last night. The topic was to create a "his" and "hers" sympathy card. It took me quite a while to decide which sets I would use and what my component would be that ties the two cards together.
I decided to go with a very clean and simple layout and use DSP as the cohesive component. I wanted to go with a flower theme for the female version, but knew that wouldn't work for the male version. I stood in front of my stamps and stared at them for a while and realized that Fine Feathers would be ideal.
Let's look at the masculine version first: I used Sahara Sand card stock and Saharah Sand Patterns Pack DSP. It felt like a masculine color combo and muted enough for a sympathy card. I wanted a large sentiment and found I had an old PTI stamp that would be perfect. Jennifer coached us in that text backgrounds are suitable for a masculine card, so I used that for this card.
Here's my masculine version:
I like the simple lines, the color scheme and the lack of embellishment. I do think the feather works.
For the feminine version, I wanted to go with a little more in terms of layering and color. For the flower element, I elected to use Secret Garden. You can see that I used the same script DSP for the flower. I stamped it onto the script DSP and then colored it with Copic markers, keeping the color very muted. I fussy cut around the flower and got it ready to mount onto the card base with dimensionals. I also used the same DSP for the base of the card. I discovered that I had some Naturals Ivory card stock in my cupboard and realized how lovely it is. Pity SU doesn't sell it any more! For the leaf, I used Always Artichoke ink and decided to not create a perfect leaf impression, I thought that the more distressed feel would work better.
Here's my feminine version:
I do love Secret Garden. I think it's one of my all time favorite SU flower sets. I wish I'd gotten more of the Naturals White and Ivory card stock whilst it was still available. It's a great base card weight and is a really pretty color. It works very well with the Sahara Sand DSP.
On a personal note:
In the 40s today and it will be for the next few days. Luckily the worst of the snow went very south of us. The southern part of the state got 12+ inches and we are pleased that missed us, but it wasn't much fun for the guys there who lost power.
As always, thank you for visiting my little area of the stamping blogosphere. I'll be back on Saturday with my Paper Players card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

I love these cards, especially the masculine one. It’s simple and elegant. That sentiment is gorgeous.
Parts of our province really got blasted with the snow, also. Here, we got a minimal snowfall, but it’s been cold and windy. The rivers have risen quickly, but the slow melt has helped the flooding risk, thank goodness. Before the snow we had quite a bit of rain, and the grass is greening up…nice!
Both very outstanding looking card.
Enjoy your day and wishing you a fantastic weekend. Stay warm and cozy

Hi Jaydee!
Both of these cards are perfect Sympathy cards! BTW, the Naturals White and Naturals Ivory are still available. They are on page 156 of the new catalog.
Okay, I’m chuckling because as I was making Lissie’s Mother’s Day card last night, I pulled out “Secret Garden” and used that same flower and leaf. I ADORE the set. It’s fantabulously wonderful. :o) However, I got out the framelits to cut it out since, as you know, I’m not a fan of all that fussy cutting. ;oP
The masculine card is perfect. That feather, the paper choice, all of it. I think the sentiment is just lovely.
And, of course I love the feminine version–did I not just say I love that stamp set? ;o)
I’m so happy to hear the majority of the snow missed you guys. We’re still in the upper 60’s to mid 70’s for the next week or so and I couldn’t be happier. :o) That’s my kind of spring. It was a long time getting here, though. :oP
Hugs!
P.S. Hiya Lou! Happy Friday!
I have to say, I really like the masculine card, although of course, I wish I could come up with something as nice as the feminine card too!
Dare we hope that spring has finally arrived?
You are making me really want Secret Garden! I agree that it is a beautiful set. I hesitated because it seems that I always order the flower sets, but since my daffodils are under 15 INCHES OF SNOW, I might need a set like that to remind me that it is MAY!!!
Hugs,
Brenda
