Hi Everyone. Happy Monday. I hope you had a great weekend. We certainly did!
I managed to get a couple of challenge cards done this weekend. I saw this great challenge across at cas-ual fridays and couldn't wait to play along.
It's so rare that I actually make anything other than an A2 card, that it was wonderful to take on a challenge that forced me to get out of that rut. I had so much fun playing with a different size of card, that I made two different cards!
I really wanted to keep it clean and simple. For me though, it often turns out that CAS cards are anything but simple! It's so hard to hide any tiny little mistake with a CAS card. It's also important that the elements are sized correctly. Consequently, I often end up playing around much more trying to get it right! This particular card has very few elements. A very simple color scheme: black, vanilla, cherry cobbler. It also contains only a single sentiment. In order to make it pop, I had to play around with horizontal lines and color. Here's what I came up with:
It was hard to get a great photo of the card – especially as my camera battery ran out just as I was taking this shot! So, once my camera battery is recharged I will take another pic and load it.
I used a set from PTI called Love Potion. Want to keep it SU only? You could do something very similar with the sentiment from a set available in the new mini – the Cross My Heart stamp set. Here's the link to that set, so that you can see what I mean. The I love you stamp would be a perfect substitute for the one I used on this card.
The CAS-ual fridays team have some fabulous inspiration cards that you really should check out – oh, and don't forget to play along, too!
Now, I promised to provide you with the details for my Paper Players card. I've updated this post with the details of the elements I used on the card. Pam – you asked me what DSP I had used. It's the Nursery Nest DSP from SU.
On a personal note:
Wanted to leave you with a photo that I took a couple of days ago at our feeder.
The pileated's still give me a thrill everytime they come into the feeder. They are just amazing. Oh, we also saw Mr Fox today. I was really happy to see him as we hadn't seen him in the garden for a couple of weeks and, on a day like today – when it got down to -40, I am always pleased to see the animals and know that they are OK.
Keep warm everyone. Warm hugs and prayers to those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

This card is totally cool!!! LOVE this idea–what amazing stamps and just perfect for a CAS card! If you have some time, I’d love for you to come join in our challenges at Inkspirational and Technique Tuesday! HUGS and have a great week! 🙂
What a gorgeous visitor, Jaydee. Thanks for sharing. Glad to know your fox is OK too. It’s mighty cold out there these days.
Hopefully this will reach you, because I don’t think that my other comments are showing. I haven’t heard from you. I have commented several times 🙁
Love the card and love the visitor.
Hope to talk to you soon.
First off, that pileated is just stunning. STUNNING! And, I’m glad Mr. Fox is still out and about. You sure do get some temperature extremes!!
I LOVE your card, and you are right, CAS cards can be so hard to get “just right”. In spite of all that, yours is most definitely “just right”! I do so love the richness of Cherry Cobbler, and it’s perfect paired with the Very Vanilla. :o)
Hugs!
P.S. Hiya Lou! :o)
Saw my red fox trotting towards his/her den in the snow! Mighty glad to know she’s okay. Our pair of pileateds are here daily and hang out almost all of the daylight, eating suet to their hearts content. Feels good to be nature’s guardians, doesn’t it? Have to go stamp some birthday cards. Nancy
Wonderful. Love the scoring on this, great way to ground it all!
Jaydee – I love the scoring and sentiment on your card! Thank you so much for playing along with us at CAS-ual Fridays!
