Missing on Monday

Hi Everyone

Just a very quick post… I was going to load a card that I had made for the Enchanted Makeovers card drive…. but, it seems that my interface for uploading my images is not functioning.  Hence, I have no cards to show you!  Looks like I am going to have to order another one.  I've taken all the photos, but am unable to load them.

So, it'll be fairly quiet from my end for the next couple of days until I can get a new interface.  In the meantime, I thought I would share a couple of photos of the house for you!

My darling hubby worked really hard before Pam and John arrived.  The house came with the normal wire shelf in the bedrooms and we knew that wasn't going to cut it for storage.  The quote we got for installing custom cabinets was exhorbitant.  Lou decided he was going to give this a go himself.   This is what he created…. with a little help from Bailey 🙂

Cupboards

Isn't that awesome?  Fitted cupboards in the corner and long hanging and short hanging on either side of the fittings.  Drawers. Shelves.  and a cat!  What else does one need in a walk in closet?  He did this in both the guest rooms and they were ready just in time for the arrival of all of our guests.

We surprised Pam and John by organizing Russ and Rachel to join us for the last week.  In the 50 years that I have known Pam I have never been able to keep a secret from her.  Well, Russ, Rachel, Lou and I, all managed to keep this surprise visit a secret for 4 months.  They didn't suspect a thing.  It was amazing to see their faces when the doorbell rang at 8.30pm and in popped Russ and Rach.  I have never seen Pam and John quite so speechless before!  It truly was a wonderful couple of weeks.

Anyway, that meant that Lou needed to do the walks in for both bedrooms and John helped out with the finishing of the second closet.  We have decided that we will be doing this in our own bedroom closet, too.  It's a fantastic system and really well priced and very easy to assemble.  Of course, it meant multiple trips to Home Depot for John and Lou.  How many times can a guy make a trip to HD.  Errrr… mmmm… probably just as many as we girls can make to a scrapbooking store!

Lou also had to repaint the guest bathroom, hang mirrors, etc.  I think it was worth it though.  I know that you can't tell the color, but its a very soft mushroom grey.  It's very soft and soothing and we love the color.  We repainted the guest bedroom the same color.  The problem with it… it looks an entirely different color on every wall in every room!  here it looks beige… and it really isn't.  In the photo of the walk in it looks blue… but it isn't!!!!!

Guestbath

We set up the adjoining bedroom as a sitting room and fitted it out with a couple of chairs, a coffee maker, a kettle, a cd/radio combo and, of course, a TV.   I was so excited when I saw the cushions on-line and thought they were perfect for welcoming a couple of Pommie guests!   The cats love this bedroom as it gets the afternoon sun.  You can see Bilbo enjoying the sun through the window.

Sitting room

It was really hard getting a photo of the bedroom, so I took one from the guest bath.  The four poster is a gorgeous bed that we have had for years and we think it's perfect for our guests.

Through to the bedroom

It's such a pretty view from the bed, too.  The chair in the corner is one of my favorite chairs.  It's positioned perfectly to look out over the wetland and watch the sunrises.  Pam enjoyed her morning cup of coffee sitting in the chair watching the sunrise and looking out over the woods to the side and the wetland in front.

View

So, there you have it.  I have been promising to attach some photos for you and thought these would be good ones to share.  It's the first time we have really had a guest room that we have been about to equip like this.  Of course, it was all made possible by my darling hubby who didn't complain once about the fact that he had to paint the bedroom 3 times to get the right color! 🙂

Warm hugs and prayers for all of you that need a little lift tonight.  Continued thoughts and prayers for those still affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Your home is absolutely gorgeous, both the decorating and the views! Kudos to your hubby for his work to help make it happen!

  2. Ooh, how lovely! Anyone would be very lucky to be a guest in your home – just like a lovely inn! I have to tell you, after you gave me the name of your paint colour in the study, I went out and got it, painted my powder room and it is beautiful – even my husband likes it, after first thinking it was waaaay too dark. Thanks for the inspiration -I can’t wait to see more photos!

  3. Beautiful pictures of your new home! Lou is a real “keeper” isn’t he? Hope to see more pictures soon.

  4. OH! Love the pictures of your home. It looks so comfy and I know your guests enjoyed the view and furnishing. Love the bed. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Isn’t it wonderful to have a man who is handy with tools and can do a job for a fraction of the cost? That closet is amazing. :o) Well done, Lou!
My main living area pain is like that paint you have, it looks different on every wall. Gah! It’s a wonderful color and I love it, but on one wall it’s a creamy yellow, and on another (in the same room, mind you) it’s cafe au lait. Oy!
Your guest suite is so cozy and wonderful! The seating area is just fabulous and all kitted out to make one feel right at home. As for the bedroom, I would love to sit in that chair with a morning cup of scad and watch the sun rise over the wetlands. Ahhhhh. :o)
Instead, I’m bleary eye-ily gulping coffee as I try to keep up with a bright eyed and bushy tailed Beanie…
Hugs to you! May your new program be up and running soon (not that that means you can’t share any more house photos, mind you!).
    P.S. Howdy, Lou! :o)
