Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday.
Hope you are all having a great weekend!
The fabulous Anne Marie has a great challenge for us at the Paper Players this week. It's a CAS challenge, too, which always makes me happy! This one has a twist though!
A CAS challenge featuring frames. Now, that leaves you all sorts of options and Nance has tried to show you that….. printed frames, die cut frames, window frames or even glasses 🙂
I decided to go with a die cut frame and knew that I wanted to use one of my favorite SU Christmas sets – Winter Post. I love those cool winter mornings when the sky is a pale blue and there is a layer of soft snow and frost on the ground. The whole world takes on a sparkle and the light is beautiful. I tried to replicate that with this card.
I used the new SU Labels framelit to cut out the frame on my Baja Breeze layer. The images were stamped onto Whisper White card stock. I used the Lovely as a Tree set for the background layer and stamped those in an ink called London Fog. It's a barely there grey and was just the color that I needed to make the trees recede.
I stamped the focal image of the skaters and then colored them with Copics. I also used copics to color the sky and the base of the trees and the "pond". I really love this image of the skaters. There is something so wonderfully vintage about it and yet, it can be used with a more modern layout.
Of course, lots of Dazzling Details were used on the pond and on the ground. I highlighted the trees with a Gelly Roller – but you can't see that on the photo. The whole feel of the card has (I HOPE!!!) that crips winter morning feel. I went with a blue and brown color scheme for the skaters as opposed to the more usual red and green that I use. I wanted their colors to carry the cooler colors of the overall card.
All I needed to do was to run the top layer through my Big Shot with a texturz plate and add the sentiment and a couple of rhinestones. I was really pleased with the overall card, but it was pretty hard to photograph.
The design team created a wonderful array of different inspirations for you again this week. I hope you will pop along to their individual blogs and check out their cards.

Beautiful winter card. Love the colors you chose.
Your card is so stunning. I love the blue and brown feel. Such a clever way to use the trees in the background and then surrounding it with the frame lit and embossing. Just a beautiful card.

I agree with the others – delightful card and the trees in the background – perfect. Color combo is just right. Good job.
