CAS-UAL Snow Much Fun

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday.  I hope you are all  a great start to your week.

I saw a fabulous challenge across at CAS-UALFridays this week.  To make a CAS card featuring a tag.  Now, y'all know that I cannot pass up an opportunity to use a tag on my card.

I've also been wanting to use the gorgeous silver glimmer specialty paper AGAIN.  My next decision?  What stamp set.   Mmmm… it was out with my new favorite Christmas set – Snow Much Fun.  As this was a CAS challenge, I decided to keep the color scheme monochromatic, with just a little color on my snowman.  This also happened to work for a challenge across at splitcoast to create a white card that had more than 75% white space.

Here's what I came up with

Casualsnowman

I know you can't see it, but there is actually embossing on the white layer beneath the silver tag.  I used one of my Christmas embossing plates that has lots of Christmas messages on it.  It really just doesn't show up on the photograph.

I was really tempted to put a ribbon on top of the tag, but as I wanted to keep it really CAS, I decided to go with a rhinestone brad instead.  This also gave my snowman a focal point – as he is looking upwards.  I think of it as the snowball that he has thrown from one hand and getting ready to catch in the other!

Isn't this glimmer paper gorgeous, especially with the turquoise blue!  I had to do a layer of silver glimmer paper between the two white layers, as this really helped to pull the card together.

I have to admit, that fussy cutting around his stick arms was quite something!  But I am so glad that I did.

I know that the team across at CASUAL Friday's would really appreciate you popping along and checking out their challenge.  It's worth it, cos there are some fabulous inspiration pieces out there for you.

On a personal note:

Cold here… sorry Rach 🙂  Getting down into the 20s tonight.  So the days have been very brisk, but rather fabulous.  I love this lead up time to our first snow.  Many people in the street have already put up their Christmas decorations!  Yikes, we are nowhere near ready for that yet.  Maybe this weekend.  Have you gotten your Christmas decorations up yet?  Or are you still waiting to take down your Halloween ones?

I wanted to thank all of you who commented on my Poppy Day post and to also thank those of you who left words of encouragement for Pam's poem.  I thought it was beautiful and was so pleased that you had appreciated it too.  One day, I will write a couple of posts about my friend Pam.  We have known each other since we were 6 and 7 (yes, I'm older!)  It's astonishing to think that we have been friends for 5 decades.  Who would have known on that day when we moved into our new house that a friendship would be formed that lasted so long.  She's a very talented lady is Pam.  I have always been madly jealous of the fact that she is so artistic and I am not.  I have always wanted to be able to draw and paint. Unfortunately for me, it was my brother who got that talent.  Pam, however, was born with that gene, as was her husband.  They are both very talented artists.  More than that, though, I am so blessed to call them my best friends.

I'd love it if you would share something about your best friend.  How long have you been friends and what is the trait that you appreciate about them the most?  I read somewhere (I think on MSNBC) that most of us only have 2 true friends.  Lots of friends who are very dear and near to our hearts, but only 2 that are the kind that last a lifetime.  So, I'd love to hear about yours.

I wanted to close tonight with a story that I found absolutely amazing.  It's kids like this that make me realize that there is hope for us yet.  Check out this story – I know it will warm your heart.

Warm hugs and prayers to those who need a lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Another stunning card! That silver glimmer paper is divine! I was chuckling you mentioned the brad looking like a snowball being tossed from one had to the other for I thought the same thing. :o) The silver, the turquoise, all if it are beautiful–I love it!
Cold, huh? :sigh: We’ll get there–someday. ;o) I have all my windows open right now and the ceiling fans going. Oy.
My best friend? Well, that’s easy, it’s Robin. She and I have known each other since birth (or nearly so) since we’re cousins. We were raised in the same community, same church, family all around. She’s a bit different–not your typical girly-girl. As an example, she began reading “Ivanhoe” and “Robin Hood” in middle school and fell *in love* with “The Lord of the Rings” in eighth grade. She was a prolific reader (it’s coming back more and more the more she practices, and she recently finished her second novel since her brain bleed–which is amazing considering it was ALL gone!) and writer and writes the funniest sci-fi/fantasy stories. Ah, the continuing sagas she would write as notes for me when we were in HS. :o) We know EVERYTHING about one another and can share just as much. What a gift and blessing she is to me. :o)
And, while I’m feeling all warm and fuzzy thinking about Robin (we chat at *least* twice a week–typically more), I have to say, that article was so wonderful and inspiring. So many folks are down on the youth of today, but then you hear stories like this and it warms your heart. Thank you for sharing!
Lou, I hope you are doing well!
    Hugs!

  2. What a cutie, your juggling snowman! I think I’m going to have to get me some of that sparkly paper. 🙂
Reading the inspiring article about the young girl who helped to build houses in Haiti reminded me of Hannah Taylor of my city, Winnipeg. At age five, she saw a homeless man eating out of a dumpster. She was so disturbed that she eventually had to do something. She started involving her schoolmates in her efforts to help the homeless, which led to the formation of the Ladybug Foundation. She is now 15, and her cause has directly or indirectly raised over two million dollars. An amazing feat for anyone, let alone a child!

  3. Sorry I haven’t commented on the last couple of posts but it’s all your fault Jaydee; the Peaceful Season and Poppy Day 2011 posts left me speechless. Anything I could have written would have sounded pathetic, so I didn’t even attempt. But please know they were both amazing and made me thankful yet again that you are willing to share your talents with us. 🙂
Today’s card is also brilliant(pun intended) I am in awe of the ways you can bling up a CAS card. Maybe we’ll have to suggest changing the meaning of CAS to “Creative And Sparkling”!
I’ve been sitting here for a few minutes now trying to decide how to write about my best friend and am afraid I’m going to fail miserably esp after reading the beautiful words you and Rach wrote. Comparatively Brenda and I have been friends for a short time and just celebrated 5 years of running together. But those 5 years and zillions of miles (I swear it’s been at least that many) have blessed me with the most thoughtful, creative, compassionate and faithful best friend. She’s always willing to listen to my latest woe and is the first to offer a helping hand and prayer. She’s also shared her hobbies, friends, and family with me for which I’ll forever be grateful. I’m looking forward to many many many more miles and smiles with Brenda by my side.
Have a Happy Hump Day One and All, and warm thoughts and prayers to all those in need.
