Queen for a Day – You’re a Gem

Hi Everyone.  Happy Friday Night.

I dedicate this card to my dear friend Brenda…. you are indeed a gem!  Thank you for your friendship, for caring, for allowing me to share your family…..and… finally… for just being you!

So….. I'm a girl who grew up in the 60's….. yes, for you youngsters out there…. the 60's 🙂 and I remember – very well – flock wallpaper.  Imagine my surprise when I went into my local crafting store and found that they were selling FLOCK powder.  Seriously!  Flock Powder!  When did that come back into fashion?  Obviously I wasn't looking and must have missed it.  However, because one gets a little melancholy about "the good old days" when one gets a little older 🙂 I decided to give it a try.  Guess what?  I much prefer it this time around!

Here's my homage to the 60's.  Except you didn't see much Night of Navy being used as a color back then!

Sorry about the photo… I know it's not the best!  However, you do get the visual of the flocking ad I think it provides fabulous texture with the ribbon.  I couldn't resist adding one of the crowns from the Trinket Crowns set.  They work beautifully with this particular sentiment.  I also did a little stamping on the tag using Sahara Sand.  A little twine through the ribbon helped to bring the flocking into the 21st century.

Don't forget, blog candy is still on offer until Tuesday night – all you need to do is check out this post and take a guess.  I am not telling you if any of you are right – or wrong on who is ME in the photograph.

I have really enjoyed reading the stories of your favorite teacher's.  What surprised me is how many of you say that you were particularly inspired by your math or science teacher.  It's pretty cool as most math teachers that I have had were not that inspiring.  In fact, we spent the 2nd year of my high school year making and using abacuses.  Our math teacher was writing a book on ancient calculation tools and had us all doing tests on the abacus to make sure that his theories held up.  That was all well and good until we had to take our scheduled math test at the end of the year.  Unfortunately, abacus calculation was not on the test! :-)  For the most part, my teachers were pretty amazing.  There were a couple that I can honestly say I was not fond of.

In my 3rd year of high school we had a sewing teacher who had a problem with girls who were taller than her.  Well, I was pretty tall at that age (pity I stopped growing!), consequently, I was taller than her and didn't do particularly well in her classes.  She really was pretty mean spirited.  My nemesis was Mrs May.  Oh….. that woman!  I can honestly say that my time in Mrs May's classes were miserable.  BUT, almost all of my other teachers made up for Mrs May and our sewing teacher.    It's still hard for many people to believe, but we had to do math classes without calculators and we weren't even allowed to use slide rules.  Remember those, anyone?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and get time to do the things you love, with those you love.

Prayers and hugs tonight for those who need a lift.

Hugs

Jaydee
