Hi Everyone. Happy Friday night.
Quick post for you tonight. Here's number 5 in the Masculine Week series.
As I've said before, there are few sets that I own that are non-SU. This set is one of them. Having lived in Africa for as long as I did, I couldn't help but buy this set when I saw it. It brought back so many amazing memories of being in the African bush.
All paper, inks, etc are SU. The background stamp is also SU – it's the Wonderfully Worn background stamp. One of my favorite background stamps. Not only does it work, well… wonderfully 🙂 on vintage cards, but also on fairly clean and simple ones. The paw print is from the SU C is for Cat set.
I used the camoflage colors as the basic color scheme: Always Artichoke, Early Espresso and Basic Black. I originally stamped the elephant in Basic Gray, but he just wasn't standing out enough. So, I stamped him again in Basic Black and snipped him out and adhered him using dimensionals.
I also stamped the canopy of the tree twice. When I adhered the snipped out canopy, I did it using glue. This allowed me to give dimension to the tree, but not have it on same plane as the elephant. I created the grass from various colors of green, and shaded the area under the elephant and to the right side of him.
It's amazing how different each of the cards have been this week. I've used the same layout and the same theme – masculine, but each card has really felt so different.
Now… spot blog candy. How about a little fun tonight?
Let's have a trivia quiz. How can you tell that this is an African elephant and not an Indian – or Asian elephant? Leave me a comment giving me the answer. I will then choose a random winner from the answers. I will give one prize to the person who gets the right answer – and one to the person who gives me the funniest answer. So… two spot prizes – one for the right answer and another for the funniest answer!
As always, you know I appreciate your visit – and your comments!
Continued prayers tonight for those who continue to be affected by the storms. For those of you who need a little lift, or a warm hug
Hugs
Jaydee

I think the ears are bigger and look like Africa if looking at a map, maybe.
African elephants are distinguished from Asian elephants in several ways, the most noticeable being their much larger ears. Also, the African elephant is typically larger than the Asian elephant and has a concave back. In Asian elephants, only males have tusks, but both males and females of African elephants have tusks and are usually less hairy than their Asian cousins. Love your card, BTW.
Well it is 5 o’clock somewhere, so let me have a few cocktails and then come back and give you an answer. Wait a minute, I know nothing about elephants, but do know about stamping! How do you not know that it is both? Ok, I have to go sit in the classroom and study elephants. : )
Have a great weekend Jaydee.
It is an African elephant because Jaydee said it is an African elephant. And that’s the truth!
I have heard it told that the African Elephant’s ears are shaped like the continant of Africa and the Indian Elephant’s ears are shaped like the country of India. But really aren’t both similar in shape? I would figure out which is which by looking in my passport to check my last entry stamp with no matching exit stamp. Seems like a good plan to me!
Hold thumbs for Brenda and me tomorrow~we will be wearing our new tutus in Green Bay and running for a new personal record. It seems that the weather and wind may have other plans. Have a wonderful weekend one and all.
BTW~Great Card Jaydee! This layout is sure to be case many many times. Love the ele and the background paper.
What a great card. I love the colors. You have got me on a masculine kick. Think I will incorporate your colors and layout with things I own.
Being from California I have never thought about elephants! But I sure do know a lot about earthquakes. I’m sure that the earth quakes when the elephant move through! Enjoy your week end!
Because he is swaying his trunk from right to left!!!! Loved the card.
To tell an African elephant from an Asian elephant, wait until they trumpet, then listen to the accent!
I thought they were grey.
Love your card Jaydee, nice and peaceful methinks!
On to the elephant differences – An African elephant weighs more than an Asian elephant, also the African elephant’s skin is more wrinkled and its ears are much larger.
Have a nice weekend over there in the USA!
Jan xx
You can tell by the ears. I forget which one has the bigger ears but if the one on your card is from Africa then it is the ones from India that have the big ears.
Cause they don’t grow trees like that in Brooklyn!
Great card I do love the elephant.
Asian elephants go to Bingo–African elephants stay home!
You can tell the difference because an African elephant has bigger ears. The other way I can tell is that he is beside an African tree–the umbrella thorn tree!
If the elephant is hanging out under an African tree, he’s African–unless he’s in an Asian botanical garden where they’ve deliberately planted an African tree. . . . African ellie’s have bigger ears, but I need to see the other kind from yours to compare. . . ! Well, if it’s doing any kind of work, or is tamed (carrying logs, tourists on its back, circus acting, painting pictures) it’s Asian. So your darling card shows him doing his own thing, so he’s an African elephant! Unless he’s an Asian elephant on a break, or is unemployed at present, hm-m-m-m
Love your card Jaydee….so very cute and what a great idea about the cats paw!! Very clever.
Now on to the trivia question……..VERY EASY!
If it was an “India-n” elephant, it’d carry it’s baby on its back in a papoose! AND if it was an Asian elephant, it’d have “made in China” stamped on its behind!

Does the difference between the elephant “nationality” have to do with the shape or size of the ears? Not sure if the shape of the ears are different but that’s my guess.
BTW, nice and tranquil card with the color scheme chosen!
I agree with you on Wonderfully Worn being a great background stamp. This is a great layout. The difference is all in the ears. Good night.
Because she doesn’t have painted toenails?
Wonderful set of masculine cards!
I only know about the sizes being different. African elephants are larger, however, you cannot tell that from the card. So based on that, I’d have to say that this tree gives away that he is from Africa. I’m very curious now to find out the answer. It’s great to challenge your mind. The only elephants I’ve seen lately have been from the movie by Dr. Seus, “Horton hears a Who”. LOL!
What a peaceful card. Love the design and colors. Those stamps really make it too!
Definitely these are African ears, larger in size, extending above the shoulders and African continent shape. However, the true test in my opinion is the stomach. African elephants have a tidy stomach line which slants down from front to back legs. Asian elephants stomachs are more parallel to the ground and often are saggy, much like mine. 😉 Thanks for the fun, Jaydee.
Easy . . African elephants have those big ears – the better to hear with & cool themselves. Indian/Asian elephants sit in the a/c with headsets on taking ‘tech help line’ calls. African elephants stomachs are tighter from running & hunting, whereas Indian/Asian elephants sit alot & order take-out (while taking tech service calls). TFS!
Oh my…these are funny.
