Hi Everyone. Happy Sunday night. More importantly…. Happy 4th July and, to our friends across our northern border – a happy belated Canada Day. This is going to be a very quick post as I know many of you will be out and about celebrating, watching fireworks and spending quality time with your families tomorrow.
Of course, tonight's card had to be a red, white and blue card and had to be a celebration card. Mind you, being a Brit and all that… you know… I'm still not sure if I have forgiven you guys for throwing my favo(u)rite beverage into Boston Harbo(u)r. (Smiles)!
I wanted to do a stylized version of the stars and stripes – so keep the stripes, the colors and the stars.. but change them up a little. This card was created for the Pals Paper Arts Fourth of July challenge and also for Stampin Celebration Americana challenge. Stampincelebration is a new challenge site I found. Well, not that new… but new to me. You really should go and check out the inspiration cards and the submissions for both challenge sites. They are great.
So, I put the stripes going vertical on the left hand side of the card. The stripes were created using my scoring board. Also, to indicate love of country – and patriotic pride, I wanted to incorporate hearts. Adding them to the stars seemed the ideal way to do that. Here's a close-up
Each of the stars has a textured and a smooth element and a heart on top.
Pity the top heart wasn't in the right spot!!! grrr… I hate it when that sort of thing happens and I don't notice it until I photograph the card. Also, the bottom of the card isn't cream… it's taking on the color from the book I placed underneath the photo tent. double grrrr.
I love the Cherry Cobbler with the Night of Navy. It really seems the best color combination for the red, white and blue. It's a much better red for this kind of patriotic card than the Real Red.
Card recipe:
- Card stock: Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy, Whisper White
- Ink: Night of Navy
- Stamps: Fundamental Phrases (sentiment: celebrate)
- Accessories: Itty Bitty Buttons (hearts)
- Tools: scoring board, Large star punch, small star punch, Square Lattice embossing folder, Big Shot, Stam-a-ma-jig
Card instructions:
- Cut Cherry Cobbler to A2 – vertical
- Cut Whisper White to 4 x 5 1/4 inches
- Score Whisper White at 1/8" inch apart to 2" mark
- Stamp "celebrate" in Night of Navy ink on Whisper White layer using stamp-a-ma-jig and adhere white layer to Cherry Cobbler base
- Punch 6 stars – 3 large, 3 small – run 1/2 the stars through the big shot using the square lattice embossing folder – alternating colors that are embossed
- Adhere small stars to big stars using Snail. Adhere buttons using your favorite method 🙂
- Once stars are assembled, add dimensionals under the large stars and adhere to side panel of the card, over the embossed stripes.
So, I hope you like my take on the stars and stripes :-)
I hope you all had a fabulous Sunday and that you have a wonderful Monday. For those of you traveling, travel safe. For the rest of you, I hope you have some rest and relaxation in your plans. Or time spent with loved ones doing the things you enjoy.
Prayers tonight for Trish, Germaine (glad to hear that they have finally diagnosed your problem!), T, Pri, Arthur and Missy's family.
As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere. Your visits, your support and your comments, are all much appreciated.
Hugs
Jaydee

Classy card, Jaydee! Love the clean and simple design! As for the “misplaced” heart…I have trouble seeing straight. And of course, they look straight until they are photographed. However, I have been able to creatively place watermarks in some cases! lol I hope you enjoyed your holiday!
I love the Cherry Cobbler with the navy as well! Beautiful card – love the scoring lines! Thanks for joining us at PPA!
Jaydee…This is awesome! Great colour combo…you are right the Cobbler is better than Real Red!
Smiles,
Lesley
Very stylish patriotic card Jaydee, as usual I like it even though the heart is misplaced!! Haha, Yes, even though they have diagnosed what it is, it seems they are still doubtful about it, I am yet to see another specialist next week, so am hoping he will at least find out for sure what is causing the pain in my hands, but I am doing so much better, thank you to you and all my cyber friends here around the world for all your prayers and thoughts!! Thinking of you Trish and Missy too! Hugs always! G
Pretty card! I love it! Love that cherry cobbler! I really didn’t notice the boo boos Jaydee! I had to go back and look lol!
Germaine- Ihope they find something that will help ease your pain!
Trish-I haven’t seen you commenting-hope you are doing well!
As for all my other cyber friends that I continually pray for I hold you in my thoughts & prayers!
I truly appreciate you wonderful ladies for praying for me and my family!
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Classy is the word that comes to mind with this card. I love the textures and the scoring lines. I just got my square lattice embossing folder yesterday. I am hoping to have some time today to do some stamping and also to finalize what to order from the new catalog!
One more thing I thought about your blog: I love the ladies comments and the little peek into their lives! We have become friends even though we have never met! That is pretty awesome!
Awesome card—perfect! Even if the button is awry, which I wouldn’t have noticed a bit!
I love this card!
Love this — it’s star-licious!!
I love this different take on the traditional 4th of July Card. Stars with Hearts what could be better than to represent our Country and our Men and Women fighting for us. The colors that you have chosen are just perfect, I think that the red would have been too bright. What a brilliant idea to make the stripes out of Scoring instead of stamping, very ingenious of you. Great, great Card.
Missy, I am around, just not visible. I get very lethargic and too weak to post, so I only do it when I am able. I do try to check in often though. I think of all of you on a daily basis and Pray for you every morning and evening. Your Prayers are never far from my heart as they are a constant reminder that I have friends in my corner pulling for me everyday. Thank you all for that.
Once again I offer Prayer and Well Wishes for everyone in need. I do hope it all helps in some small way. Jaydee, may you always be Blessed for having this wonderful Blog with daily Posts that fill our thirst for creativity and bring us together daily as a family. Without you there would be no US. You truly are amazing.
Cyber hugs, Trish in Wisconsin
