Studio Sketches – Sneak Peak

Hi Everyone

Happy Wednesday night.  It's hump day.  The week is almost over and the weekend is almost upon us… and that means… yes… we can use our NEW deck.  Oh yeah!  Oh… and I get to go shopping to decorate the deck – and spend some time in my stamping space using my new goodies.

Tonight's card – using Studio Sketches and the fabulous layout from Sweetstop.

Talking about new goodies – tonight is another sneak peek for you.  I have to tell you that this set is going to be one of my favorites.  Y'all know that I love coloring – even if I do find it difficult to stay within the lines… sorry, Mom!  I am trying to get better – I watch my video and try to learn a little bit at a time.  This set is going to help me get better!

The one thing I can really tell you – I am LOVING the color renovation.  I was a little horrified at first.  We were losing so many colors – colors that I had invested in.  So it did come as a shock.  I know I said this before, but forgive me for saying it again… once I started to realize that I didn't use the colors we were retiring – almost all of them stayed unused – I realized that maybe it wouldn''t be so bad.  Then, when we received the little snippets of new color card stock and had a sneak peek at the In Colors, I started to get excited.  BUT…. nothing compared to playing with the new colors – that's when I really realized this was going to be fun.

You have seen cards for the last few nights.  Cards that have contained the new colors.  Tonight's card actually uses two colors that are sticking around.  One color I have used a lot – another one… well… no… I think I've used it once.  However, the new renovation, the new papers and suddenly I was hooked on the color combination.  Bravo Burgundy and Old Olive.   Yeah.. I know.. they have both been around for EVER… but I have never used them together…. or I don't believe I have!

Don't Baguettes, a little Bordeaux and vintage inspired wallpaper cry out CELEBRATE?  I certainly think they do…. Tomorrow, we are off to celebrate Flag Day with Cherie!!!

The paper is Greenhouse Gala – I am LURRRRRVING this paper.  The ribbon is the Old Olive satin ribbon stand-by.  Card stock is Bravo Burgundy and the image is Studio Sketches.

So… a bread board, a baguette, olive oil and burgundy.. did I tell you already how wonderful that is 🙂

Well, personally I would prefer a Pouilly Fuisse – but the bottle needed to be colored red 🙂

Card recipe:

  •  Card stock:  Bravo Burgundy, Whisper White
  • Inks:  Bravo Burgundy, Soft Suede, Kraft, Very Vanilla, Old Olive, Cajun Craze, Baja Breeze
  • Sentiment:  Retiring Rub-ons
  • Accessories:  Gold Smooch Spritz on the card base, Old Olive satin ribbon, Scallop Border Punch
  • DSP:  Greenhouse Gala

Instructions:

  • Cut card base at A2 horizontal
  • Cut DSP to 5 1/4W x 2 1/2 H
  • Cut strip of Bravo Burgundy and Old Olive and punch with scallop punch
  • Spritz Gold Smooch Spritz over base card and allow to dry
  • Adhere two scalloped pieces together using snail
  • Using snail, adhere DSP to scalloped pieces covering straight edge
  • Wrap Old Olive ribbon around the adhered pieces and tie
  • Apply rub on to top scalloped area (oh yeah.. and try to make it straight… my hand slipped when I put it down.. thanks to Mr Bilbo Baggins deciding it was time for a pet!!!)
  • Stamp image onto Oval using StazOn.  Allow to dry and then water color with inks and blender pen.
  • Ahere oval to Bravo Burgundy Oval base.  Adhere two ovals together using dimensionals.
  • Adhere ovals to card base – over the ribbon – using dimensionals.

Tips:

  • When water coloring, start with a with the lighter colors and move to darker colors.  If you want a darker shade of the color and can't get the right mix, try going over lightly with a marker
  • I learned the next trick on my coloring video… take a pale blue (I used Baja Breeze) and lightly go around the edges of the water colored image.  This allows it to "pop" from the white base.  You really don't notice it until you look closely, but the image really does lift from the background
  • Use good quality paper when water coloring.  I love to use Whisper White – especially for layering.  It's a smooth surface and will take a small amount of water coloring extremely well.  If you need to wet the image more, you need a heavier weight card stock – or water color paper.

Trish, I was thinking about you today – knowing that it is Wednesday.  I know the others were, too.  Dee, your bears are smarter than the average bear – that's for sure!  SueG – I hope everything goes well with the inspector tomorrow.  Brenda – I love the idea of making gifts for the girls in the family from your grandmother's wedding dress.  What a beautiful thing.  Cam, thank you for joining the Paper Players challenge! Stampersuzz – thank you for joining the commenters!  Lynn, Missy, Beth, Sally, Kelli, Kadie and Doris – thank you for your comments and your support.  Beth and Missy, you are two of my "oldest" supporters – and I really appreciate that :-)  Rach, I hope you continue to have a wonderful visit with your GF and the girls!

Tomorrow I have another sneak peek for you.  I'm holding off on giving you tomorrow's card, though… cos two of you will be receiving it 🙂

As always, thank you so much for spending time with me in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  You KNOW your visits are much appreciated.  I hope you all have a fabulous Thursday.

OOOOOH… quick update – in case you haven't checked it out lately – the clearance rack has just been updated with new stuff….. lots more DSP for 3.99 a packet!

Big hugs to you all

  1. Okay Jaydee – Your coloring is amazing……You stay in the lines just fine. And your shading is fabulous. ROCK ON girlfriend! Love the stamp set – would walk a good fair distance for a yummy Baguettes! We had a GREAT bakery back in Madison Wisconsin that sold Baguettes – Can’t seem to get a good Baguettes out here in Arizona.
Can’t wait to see photo’s with the completion of your deck – WOW……can’t image how much you are looking forward to this weekend. ENJOY!

  2. I really like this card layout and what a different color combo. I am going to have to try this one. I really like the double ovals and the double scallops along the width of the card. The DSP is just gorgeous. Your Watercoloring is spot on. I love how you obtained just the right colors and tones. I didn’t know if I would like this set, but now that I see it done up, it looks really cool. Thanks for the inspiration. Your talents never cease to amaze me on a daily basis.
Thank you for your thoughts today. Doing alright so far. Taking lots of different Anti-Nausea meds.
I am almost positive that “Flag Day” is June 14th, ‘cuz that’s my Son-in-Law’s Birthday. Lol. I think you two are a bit early. Lol, Lol, Lol,
I hope and Pray that everyone is happy doing what they want to do and having fun doing it. Jaydee, thanks as always for sharing your very special God Given Talents with us.

  3. You are right! This combo is lovely and I would never have thought to use it. Beautiful card – love each element. Sounds like you have a fun weekend coming up.

  4. Bravo Burgundy looks so much better when you use it. I have a difficult time with that one. Very nice water coloring.
I am excited to celebrate Flag Day tonight. Did you know that my dog, Barclay, has a birthday on Flag Day? Somebody else I know has a birthday on Flag Day as well!
Trish, I really hope and pray that the anti-nausea meds are working for you. I think of you often.

  5. Love it! Old Olive is one of my favs, but have to admit I’ve used BB only once for a grad card in school colors. They are the perfect color choices for this image. Once again you are making me drool over the DSP, I can’t wait to order it. I must get busy and use up the old stock so I can justify the new. And don’t even let me get started on your coloring–I’d gush on and on.
Trish you’ve busted me, Flag Day is on the 14th, but we are celebrating a few days early. I’ve decided from now on to only celebrate Flag Day and not my b-day. That way I’ll never get older. Do you think it’ll work?
Have a great day One & All!

  6. I like this color combination and I think I will use it to make a card for the card drive. I have a stamp set in mind and I was wondering what colors would work–now I know!

I know I have seen wallpaper that looks like the DSP-I think it was in one of my parents’ rooms a long time ago! LOL!
Have a great day and enjoy your shopping trip!
