Hi Everyone. Happy Monday Night.
Tonight I get to show you one of the cards that I made over the weekend. I used the MTSC66 sketch challenge from Lord Have Mercy! It was a cool sketch, because it forced me out of my comfort zone…. I mean… horrors of horrors… the focal point image was angled! For those of you who visit my blog often, you will know that is aaaaarrrrrggggghhh for me…. I mean.. it's not STRAIGHT :-)
I loved it. I felt so free. I was liberated from central focal points that have to be dead centre and upright! Oh yay! I also used a color scheme I have never used before – Ruby Red and Black. AND… more importantly, I used a technique I have never used before – THE CHALKBOARD technique.
I used the Inspired by Nature set for this card. We've been trying to grow Echinaea in our garden for several years with very little success… well, now I grew them on a card 🙂
I love this technique but haven't been able to use it before because I didn't have white craft ink. It was a great excuse to bring out my new water color crayons.
I began this card by stamping the Inspired by Nature image in Whisper White Craft Ink directly onto Basic Black paper. I let that dry
Then I began the process of coloring and layering my water color crayons over the stamped image. The final effect really is like colored chalks on a blackboard. It was incredibly relaxing to do and I really enjoyed it.
I ran the card base through my Big Shot with my texturz plate.
For the ribbon – I used the broad black and white striped ribbon and colored the inside white stripes with Ruby Red marker. I left the two outer white edges, white for added interest. I placed the ribbon on an angle, too.
I finished it off with a button and some twine that I also colored with Ruby Red markers. I popped black card stock onto the ruby red matt with dimensionals and then added dimensionals under the Ruby Red matt to give extra height. I like the tone on tone of the same color matt and back ground card stock.
You can see that I used several color greens and browns for the leaves and the top of the flower, but stayed mostly with Ruby Red for the petals.
I really enjoyed making the card and am pleased with the final results.
I hope you have a fabulous Tuesday. Please think of Trish tomorrow, especially as she begins her 5 hour surgery at 11.30 cst.
I'd also like to give a shout out to Adelle and Germaine, who were both unwell this weekend. I hope you are feeling better, my friends.
As always, thank you for visiting my blog – your visits – and your support – are always appreciated.
Hugs
Jaydee

Thank you Jaydee, for our thoughts and mention for me to be better! I have been feeling much better and am looking forward to Easter and time of new life, as I like to think it is, with spring looming close by, we have had a twist in the weather too! Love your card, and I love this stamp set! TF, HUgs always! G
I love the way this card turned out. I am going to try this technique and I think it will work great with this stamp set. Thanks for the idea and for sharing your work.
Stunning result! I’ve never even seen the chalkboard technique before but it most certainly appeals to me and I will be trying it soon.
Have an awesome Tuesday and enjoy that nice southernly “breeze” today (it’ making me glad it was a swim morning instead of run!) :0)
LOVE this card. Please shoot me an email, I want to get you some seeds from my garden when they come in, and you will be able to grow the real ones. They take off and get big and beautiful. I have the lavendar ones and white ones. They like sun. Thanks for sharing.
Stay welll,
AnnMarie
Another masterpiece Jaydee! It is absolutely beautiful!!! I have never tried this technique either! I may have to step outside my comfort zone and try this! TFS! My thoughts and prayers are with you Trish!! Hope Germaine and Adelle get well soon!
I’m so excited to try this technique on my fav stamp (I was sure SU designed it to make me happy!) And I’ve never used Ruby Red anything. Then when I saw you colored the ribbon I freaked out, Oh, my goodness, that’s brilliant!
Hi I commented on this yesterday but somehow it didn’t accept it. This is such a beautiful card – I love it. I have not seen this technique before either and I will try it over the Easter weekend when hopefully I get some time to stamp. Triash is in my prayers.
Hugs
