Just Buzzin By to say..

Hi Everyone… welcome to Jaydee's SU stamping space.  Tonight's card uses a set that I bought especially to create cards for my card drive.  I'd never ordered the set, 'cos I really didn't think I would use it… Well, I LOVE it…. I had so much fun making cards with it this weekend – and you will see a couple of them this week.  What's the set… I can hear you asking?  Well, it's Just Buzzin' By (113228).

Before I show you tonight's card… a thank you to those of you who left comments for Lou!  He loved them.. but ….. shhhhh…. don't tell him I told you so!  It was really great of him – and I am very lucky!  After yesterday's stampin spree, I have quite a few cards to share with you.  I really did have fun.  It was such a great feeling creating cards for a cause!  Now, sadly, I have to go and create two sympathy cards and one get well card.

The sketch for tonight's card is from the design divas at stamping411 – sketch ssc135.  It's a great sketch and I made two entirely different cards with it yesterday.  In fact, you would be hard pressed to realize that they were from the same sketch.  I will be showing them both to you this week, because I think having fall to layouts are essential for all of us – and I think this will become one of mine!

So, here's the outside of the card… and, Trish, just for you… it will be followed by the inside! 🙂

so…. isn't it just so darned cute????  It makes me happy looking at it… let's take a quick look at what I used on the outside, then we'll discuss the inside.

  • Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla card stock.
  • Patterns Pack II (retired) DSP – Apricot Appeal
  • Chocolate Chip classic ink for stamping the images
  • I ran the Very Vanilla paper through my big shot – texturz plate to create the very subtle hatched background.
  • I stamped the sentiment "just buzzin' by to say…" in Chocolate Chip and laid it over the Very Vanilla
  • I stamped the Hive and the bees in Chocolate Chip.  I used my blender pen to create some shadowing across the hive, and to color the door of the hive.  I then colored the rings and the head of the bees (aren't they adorable!!!!!) with more mustard.  I then took an old blender pen and used the tip to paint shimmer paint over parts of the hive, the wings of the bees, and their little antenna.  It's hard to tell from the pic, but I hope you can see a little of the shimmer
  • If course, that wasn't enough… I decided to add some Crystal Effects to the bodies of the bees – to give them a little more definition.
  • I cut out the bees and the hive and mounted them on the Very Vanilla using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • If you look carefully at the bees, I put them in a flight pattern…. starting at the top left – as though they were coming around the back of the hive and making their way to the front… ok… there I go again, making up stories for the characters on my cards! 🙂

Let's look at the inside

It was really tough to get decent pics of these.. I'm still trying to work out my new photo tent!  But, here's what the inside has:

  • I stamped the honey jar in Chocolate Chip and then treated it to the same treatment as the hive, blender pen, chocolate chip – to give it that aged look.
  • I colored the bee in just the same way as I had the outside bees – including the shimmer and the Crystal Effects
  • I used Crystal Effects on the honey that was dripping from the honey pot…. I hope you can see it in the pic – but it really looks great!
  • I stamped the sentiment "have a honey of a day" from the Just Buzzin By stamp set in Chocolate Chip.

It was such a fun card to create – and I'll be making more to send off as part of the card drive.  Loved the layout and am loving the stamp set… which goes to show that you should borrow a set from someone before you decide you don't like it!

It's gotten cold again today – it was 30 yesterday and back into single digits again today.  I'd rather have spent the day stamping… but today was the first day in my new job.  I was supposed to have moved on January 6th, but there were some internal issues and so, the move occurred today.  It's always interesting being the new kid on the block!

I was on a call this morning, looking out of my window as I was listening and two foxes came running from the back of the garden down the yard and past the house! It made me so incredibly happy to see them.  I hear them calling to their pups, and I presume, each other in summer – but so rarely see them.  The squirrels took off at a phenomenal pace… and I don't believe the foxes caught them… more's the pity, we seem to be over-run with them at the moment!

As always, thank you so much for visiting my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits – and your support are always greatly appreciated.

Have a fabulous Tuesday

hugs

Jaydee

I really like the way you used the Crystal Effects, yes it did show up on the screen, made it look like real honey running down the side of the pot. Thanks for remembering me and the insides of the cards. I always love to see the insides, you did a wonderful job with this one. Great card all over. Have a wonderful day!
