Hi Everyone. Happy Tuesday night. Don't forget….. the jaybdee stamping up blog candy give-away – click here to see all the great SU goodies you can win – including lots of ribbon and new in-color card stock.
Tonight's card is the card that really almost wasn't. Man.. it was a disaster. It was one of those cards that sounded like a good idea in my head, but I think I must have been having a hot flash or something!:-)
I had this idea swirling around in my head… and it created one too many swirls on the card.
So, I created this masterpiece and looked at it and thought… OK… so there's definitely a problem with the sentiment. It's like a pimple on an elephants face… kind of not quite the right scale. Also.. I love the swirls on the bridal paper brayered in Old Olive… and I love the swirls on the Delightful Decorations "joy" stamp…. and I loved the swirls on the shimmer white background…..but… together….. it looks more like a maelstrom than a masterpiece.
So, I showed it to my hubby….. and being the diplomat he is…. he said… well, it's a nice card…. but… I wouldn't buy it!
STUNNED SILENCE. I hated the fact that he had echoed what I was feeling, and the fact that he was so honest… but…. it was like getting a report card that says "Jaydee tries hard at school – but she's a dunce" or my other favorite "she's such a NICE person"!!!!
So, I did what all crafters do when things don't go right. Sulk. Well, not really, I decided to take a walk around, tickle my pussycats and come back and re-look at it in 30 minutes to see what I could salvage.
So… here's what it originally started life as…. I CALLED IT THE NOTSOJOY CARD:
mmmm…. nice idea…. BUT…. so… I decided too many swirls, too much green at the top and way too small a sentiment.
Firstly, here's my distraction. How did he not get a major neckache from that position?
So…. 10 minutes of disturbing Bilbo's sleep and I was ready to go see what I could do to fix up my little problem.
. so we need a bigger sentiment
.
. so we need less green
.
. so we need far less swirls
.
. so….
.
. what to do
Firstly, a bigger sentiment:
then…… get rid of the swirls
.
.
And put it all together
OK…. MUCH BETTER. I checked splitcoaststampers as I was writing my blog update – and this card is my most viewed and favorited card on SS. Which, considering it almost ended up in the bin – shows that you should never give up. Sometimes that good idea you had in your head that doesn't seem to be working out too well, can still be what you had imagined it to be!
On a personal note: it's gotten very cold here. It's going down to 33 degrees overnight and a high in the mid 50s! Wow – we seem to have gone from summer straight into later autumn again. It's been a very long week at the office this week – and it's on Tuesday. Consequently, I have had NO time in my stamping space – and that tends to make me very cranky. Also, we were at the emergency vet last night with one of our furfaces. She finally came home at around 1.45am. So it was a short sleep night, with an early rise morning, and early morning conference calls. A good way to guarantee that Jaydee is a major crankpot. In fact, I gave a telling off to my favorite workmate today.. it was mild – but very unusual for me. I think I'm less cranky now – and Cleopatra is back to her normal self – thank goodness. We won't talk about what the fees for the emergency vet were though.
DON'T FORGET….. leave a comment, place an order, or join the Jaydee Jam SU team and get entered into the SU blog candy giveaway.
As always – thanks for stopping by and spending time in my stamping space. Your visit is always appreciated. Don't forget to check out Jean's
Tightwad Tuesday spot where she is highlighting Thankful Thinking today. If you have any questions on today's card, leave me a message or send me an email – I'd be very happy to answer them
Blessings and hugs to you all
