Happy Sunday.
It’s another clean and simple challenge across at The Paper Players this week and Jan is our fabulous host. Jan happened to choose a theme for our CAS challenge and one I couldn’t resist. It inspired me to ink up a set called Guiding Light from Pinkfresh Studio and some of my watercolors!
Here’s a sneak peek:

Oh, I love some good hot pressed watercolor paper and a good set of stamps and dies 🙂
Here’s Jan’s challenge badge for this week:

I began by inking the lighthouse image onto a piece of watercolor paper and then used my Sonnelier watercolors for the image. Once I was happy with the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper’s cottage, I fussy cut it and started to prep the base of the card.
I added some blue for the sky and painted in the sea and the grass around the lighthouse and a path leading to it. I added a little green to the right hand side of the blue sea to give the feel of a cove that was wrapping around. One that you knew there had to be a beach there, but you just couldn’t quite see it 🙂
The finishing touches were the sentiment and the addition of the die-cut white picket fence. I thought it added texture and depth, and made it feel just a little more homely.
Here’s my finished product.

I hope you will play along with Jan’s challenge this week. We would love to see what YOU create with the watercolor theme. As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:
On a personal note:
Well, this is the weekend for fall decorating. Two days to go to the official start of fall and the weather here has been as high as the high 80s! It wasn’t more than a week or so ago that we were down in the 50s and 60s. Lots of the trees still think it’s summer and are no where near giving up their green leaves. However, the house is starting to feel as though it needs the rich, warm, colors of fall that I just love! So, I think I might be a little compelled to start decorating a day earlier.
This week we also welcome a new member of the household. She’s just a little under 6 months old and absolutely adorable. Her original name was Sophia (named after the Golden Girls character), but we have changed it to Luna. When you see her face and how her white mane frames her face, you will understand why we couldn’t resist the name. She’s a silver and white classic tabby Maine Coon and is just gorgeous. It took her a few days to get settled in, but now, in less than a week, you would think she’d always been here. Chilli (our other Maine Coon) is rather obsessed with her!
This is a picture of her at 7 weeks – my, how her coat has changed!

Looking at her here, you would think she was going to be a brown tabby. Oh, no!
She is going to be a beautiful girl with a full white mane. I can see why Chilli has become obsessed with her. I did want to share this photo, though. She was confined to Lou’s office for the first few days so that we could do a slow introduction to the other cats. This is the photo that I took when we first let Chilli in to meet her.
It illustrates perfectly just how tall Chilli is and just how small she is :-). I find it hard to believe just how long Chilli has grown!

Thursday night was her first night of freedom, where she got to explore the house. She was nervous, but quickly settled in. She found the climber in the family room and made herself at home:

So, I am guessing you will be seeing more of her! Last night was her first real night of freedom. She was released from her quarantine room and had the run of the house the whole night. We didn’t hear any crashing or banging, so we think things went OK :-). This morning we knew exactly where Chilli would be. Yep, right behind her! Smudgie took to her without any problems. Charlie, just ignores her :-). It’s the old man’s way of dealing with everything he doesn’t like 🙂
I’ll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Before I get to the card, I just want to say how GORGEOUS Sophia is! She is going to be a beauty when she matures. I absolutely love her. I have always wanted a Maine Coon. I can see why Chilli is smitten with her. Now to the card! What a lovely watercolored background you created, Jaydee! I love the movement it lends to the card. The fence adds depth, and puts everything into perspective. What a fantastic job of fussy cutting! It’s a perfect card for Jan’s challenge. Have a wonderful week!
Thanks, Ann. We do think she’s going to be rather beautiful, and her coat is so soft! I do think MCs are more like dogs. Chilli LOVES playing fetch. He has these springs that he plays with, the blue ones being his favorite color. He will paw at any vertical surface to try to get you to throw the spring for him. He then chases it, slides across the floor, hits the wall, picks up the spring and brings it back 🙂

Lucky you having your new kitty as well as the others! Luna is so gorgeous! I am confused, who is on the floor by the tower and who is standing. Senior moments. Thanks for showing the cats. Oh, you made a card. Well it is lovely and the fence a nice touch. Hugs.
Thanks, Jeanne. We are blessed to have some rather cute cats :-). So, little Luna is on the right side of the climber. No longer the brown tabby that she was in her 7 week old photo. She’s now a classic silver with black tabby! The big bear – who is taller than Lou’s desk, is Chilli! I honestly cannot believe that he’s not even fully grown yet 🙂

Your lighthouse scene is just delightful, Jaydee! The coloring is perfect, but what is most enamoring to me is the background….it’s fabulous! You have the watercoloring knack for sure. And those kitties—adorable! Keep those pictures coming!
Thanks, LeAnne. I did think it was the perfect set to use for watercolor. I have to admit, that background gave me nightmares…. all I could see was what was wrong with it. So, I really appreciate your positive comments about it 🙂

What a fun nautical scene, with the lighthouse leading the way for all the boats! Great painting, Jaydee.
As for your kitties, it seems they are doing well and it’s also easy to see why you love Luna, what with her 7-week colors, she fits right into your love of Fall!
Thanks, TK. I really appreciate your kind words! And, you are right, her 7-week colors look very similar to some things I might have used to decorate the house this weeked 🙂

Beautiful lighthouse card, Jaydee! I think it would be fun to live in a lighthouse…okay, maybe stay in one for a vacation because I’m sure that’s a lot of stairs to climb every day : ) We spent the weekend enjoying some fall colors here in Colorado, the aspen trees are bright bright yellow right now. Congratulations on the new kitty, Luna is adorable!!
Your watercoloring is just amazing, Jaydee! You created a beautiful scene for the stamped images and I love the addition of the die cut fence. Luna is exceptionally beautiful! You are so fortunate to have another lovely MC in the house and I’m glad for you that the kitties all get along. I look forward to future photos!
What a glorious piece of water colouring this is! The way you’ve loosely coloured the landscaped but then meticulously coloured the stamped images is such a great contrast. I can feel the mist in the air!
I love how you built the perfect little scene around your lighthouse and keeper’s cottage Jaydee – you are definitely skilled in the art of watercolouring! As for the latest addition to your feline clan – Luna is adorable, I can see why Chilli is smitten!
Jaydee, this is just the picture perfect lighthouse scene! I love it! Wouldn’t it be fun to spend the night there? Looking out in the night sky and watching the boats! SO serene!
Your little Luna is precious!!!!!!! I just love that Chillii was happy to have a new friend! Have fun! Wishing you a great weekend!
