Happy Sunday.
I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. It’s been incredibly cold here and the best place to hang out, other than in front of the fire!, is my crafting space. So, I did a little card making using the new colors across at As You See It. Now, I love these colors, but generally think of them as mascuine colors. So, I had to think outside of the box to make a winter card. I remembered there was a brand new set that arrived in the post just after black Friday… not sure how it got into the postbox at the bottom of my driveway (he he), but it felt like the perfect thing for the colors. It’s the Winter Welcome Sled die set from Spellbinders.
Here’s a sneak peek:

When I pulled all the elements together and added the color card stock, I realized how gorgeous these colors are together. Now, I didn’t have Pecan Pie so I had to substitute with Copper Clay, but I absolutely love this color combo.
Here’s the badge from As You See It:

Aren’t they gorgeous together? Love them!
I began with the base of the card and decided that it really needed to be something other than a rectangle. I brought out my Arched Dies from The Greetery and created a card shaped like an arched door. I then used my Tim Holtz woodgrain stencil and did a tone-on-tone treatment to add the woodgrain.
I then die-cut all the elements. The only color I added to the combo was white. I made the poinsettia brachts and cyathia white and left all the other elements in green.
I die-cut the sled from the Copper Clay and Navy card stock and adhered them together. I added the poinsettia and greenery to the top of the sled and them foam mounted that to the card base. I was surprised to see that it didn’t really add as much bulk as I would have expected. Here’s a close-up:

As my card base was blue, I added a smaller white arch on the inside of the card so that I could put the sentiment and message.
Here’s my full card:

Don’t you just love those colors together? Looking at this card made me realize that I need to make more shaped cards and get out of my “it has to be a rectangle” mindset!
I know the talented team across at As You See It would love it if you played along. I’ll be back later in the week with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Card recipe:
- Dies: Winter Welcome Sled – Spellbinders
- Sentiment: Elegant Christmas 2 – Waffle Flower

Jaydee, this card is wonderful! I do adore the colors, and your elements bring to mind the days when we used to sled. These days, if it doesn’t have a motor or internet, kids don’t play – such a shame. Your detailed stenciling added so much, but that white poinsettia stole my heart!
Gorgeous, Jaydee – and who knew our colors would make the perfect combo for this awesome set! I wish I’d thought of it, lol. I love it! Thanks so much for playing at As You See It!
Yes, yes, a wonderful card. It makes me remember my ice skating days. Thanks!
Oh my word, Jaydee! What an epic beauty this is. The wood grain on the navy base is echoed in the sled. The skates and the flower stand out so well from the stronger colours. The arched shape is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing with us at As You See It.
This is just delightful! What a clever way to use our colors—and you used some of my favorite winter images! Sleds and skates–love them! Thanks for making out colors shine this week at As You See It!
