Altenew Delicate Magnolia for Paper Players Challenge #770

Happy Sunday.

I hope you are all managing to stay warm and safe with these storms. It’s been bitterly cold here in Minnesota – sort of -47 degrees type of cold. The only thing to do on days like this is stay in and craft :-). It’s my turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it’s sketch week. For my card I used the Altnew Delicate Magnolia dies. I love these little dies.

Here’s a sneak peek:

I went with a soft yellow and sage green color scheme for my card. I think that my mind was wishing for Spring when I created this card 🙂

I die-cut the delicate magnolias and colored them with ink. I then die-cut leaves and blended them with sage green and a tinge of blue.

I used a stencil for the background to help ground the magnolias and then splattered some metallic gold and green watercolor paint onto the composition. The final touch was the sentiment and the black enamel dots for the center of the flowers.

Here’s my full card:

I hope you will be inspired to join our challenge this week. We would love to see what YOU create. As always the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:

On a personal note:

Well, poor little Luna has been in the wars for the last month. We had to take her to the emergency vet for vomiting. She ended up spending two days and overnight at the emergency vet and our normal vet. Xrays and sonogram showed what they thought was a blockage, so surgery was performed. Turned out it was a big bubble of gas! That was an expensive bubble of gas I can tell you! :-). We also discovered that the teething issues she was having were worse than we thought and she was diagnosed with junior gingivitis. Doesn’t sound too bad, but it can quickly turn into stomatitis which is not a good thing. So, a visit to the veterinary dental specialists up the in the cities was required. She spent the whole day there having all her teeth (except the canines) removed. After long discussions with several vets, it was determined that this was the only reasonable option to stop the progression. Poor little thing. We felt terrible doing it, but she will feel much better now. In all my years as a cat owner – and we are talking many decades – I’ve never come across this. Apparently some breeds, including Maine Coons, are more susceptible than others.

Anyway, after having all her teeth removed and spending a night as high as a kite from the anesthetic and pain killers, she was back to her normal self within 36 hours. She still has a nominal painkiller for the next couple of days and is confined to eating soft foods only for the next month, but it’s amazing how resilient she has been considering all she has gone through. As I type up my blog post she is fascinated by a little ladybug crawling up the screen in my craft room!

Although she didn’t need a cone or anything after her dental surgery, she did after her abdominal surgery. Instead of the cone we created a cat onesie out of a baby onesie. She tolerated that much better than the cone and she looked incredibly sweet!

Seriously, how cute is THAT!!!??

My craft room is in disarray right now as we change out the cabinets for new ones. There is crafting stuff strewn everywhere and it looks like a government agency had been looking for something! I am hoping to get it finished by end of day tomorrow so that I can start crafting again. If I do, I will have a card to share with you in a couple of days. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Card recipe:

  • Dies: Delicate Magnolia – Altenew
  • Background: Is a Sizzix die that came with my new switch and has no name.
  • Sentiment: Mini Sentiments – My Favorite Things

  1. A beautiful card, Jaydee! These dies create such gorgeous flowers, and I love the soft sage and creamy yellow hues. How perfectly they work with your sketch, which I LOVE. My thoughts have been with Luna, and I was wondering how she was doing. Poor little princess! The wonderful thing about youngsters is that they are so resilient. I am happy to hear about her very positive prognosis. By the way, she looks adorable in her “cat suit”. Have a fabulous week and stay safe and warm!

  2. Beautiful card. Love the pretty Delicate Magnolias in the soft yellow and the lovely sage stenciled background.

  3. This is such a glorious card. The magnolias are magnificent. I do love Altenew stamps. I have a few that I got years ago before the postage and exchange rate made it too silly to contemplate getting! Your colour choices are perfect and the softness of the stencilling is gorgeous.

  4. Oh My! This is so wonderful, Jaydee. First, what an impressively gorgeous die set but your colors, background and crafting magic made this one unbelievably stunning!
Sorry to hear about sweet Luna, but it seems like you did all the right things and helped her as best as possible. If she’s feeling good this soon, the right decisions and care were definitely taken. I hope she’s lounging in your craft room supervising all the moving.
Hope to see more of your craftiness soon!

  5. I love your card, the colors and dimension. My gosh, what Luna has gone through. Hope she is better soon and not having to wear the onesie. Best wishes for her and you too.

  6. A beautiful card, Jaydee, and a fabulous use of the fun sketch you gave us! I love the dreamy colors on the magnolia blossoms and the contrast with the black rhinestone centers; my parents put one in the front yard of the house I grew up in before they sold it, they are beautiful trees. Thanks for a fun sketch this week!

  7. First thing, I want to thank you for such a great sketch! So many possibilities with it. Your magnolias are magnificent, Jaydee and the soft color scheme is quite lovely. The partial stenciling in the background looks perfect behind the flowers. And you used splatter! 😉 I’m so sorry about poor Luna; it’s wonderful to know she is recovering quickly and absolutely could not look any cuter in her onesie!

  8. First off, poor little Luna! I sure hope she has recovered and feeling spunky again! That had to be stressful!

Your card is GORGEOUS! Those little yellow flowers are so realistic and delicate. The stenciled background is perfect. And YES, this card makes me long for Spring. I hope you are safe and warm in MN! I think of you often!

  9. Those magnolias are beautiful Jaydee – so much dimension. I love the soft stencilling of the background too. A nod to spring for sure! Poor Luna – side really has been through it this week! I hope she’s feeling better now and that it will be worth it in the long run.
