Concord & 9th Fueled with Love for Paper Players #772

Happy Sunday.

It’s the fabulous Ann’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it’s color week. Of all the weekly challenges we have, color week is my favorite. Why you ask? Well, it’s because the colors generally push me waaaay outside of my normal comfort zone, and this week is no exception. Calypso Coral is one of my least favorite SU colors. I love so many of them, Calypso not so much. In fact, I dislike it so much that I didn’t have any of that color card stock so I had to improvise with the nearest color I could find.

The great thing about color week is that it inspired me to ink up a brand new set that I received in my mail box. I have absolutely NO idea how these things keep appearing in the mail :-). Once I saw this set I absolutely couldn’t resist it. Seriously, it’s adorable. It’s a set called Fueled with Love and it’s from Concord & 9th.

Here’s a sneak peek:

I think the sneak peek might give you an idea that this is a gas pump themed set!

I began by die-cutting all the pieces (and I won’t even tell you how long it took me to do all the pieces in 4 different colors!!!). I then built the fuel pumps in various color combos before settling on the ones for my card. I just kept tripping over Mossy Meadow. It’s a gorgeous color, and I absolutely LOVE it for Christmas/winter cards, but I just couldn’t get it to work with this set. About half-way through building the variations of pumps I began to berate myself for not making a floral card because, obviously, Mossy Meadow would have worked beautifully for that!

In the end I decided to keep the Mossy Meadow to the handles of the pumps and the sentiment. So, it’s there, but not front and center!

I then stamped the sentiments on each of the pumps and adhered the fuel pumps. I mixed up some of the colors for a little visual interest, but decided not to go overboard on the mixing and matching.

I needed something to ground my pumps, so I brought out a die that came with my Sizzix Switch at Christmas. I die-cut using a piece of left over card stock and then used it as a stencil. I brought two of the colors from the challenge to the base. I do like the additional interest that comes from the stencilled area.

I adhered the pumps to the card front using pop up foam dots and added the sentiment. Here’s my full card:

Isn’t that adorable????? I love the vintage feel of them. Such a cute and original set. Anyway, as always, our design team have some fabulous inspiration:

On a personal note:

Well, the temps finally got above zero and the sun has been shining. The cats even managed to get some time in the sun room yesterday as the temps reached 35 degrees F. For those of you who are in the celsius area that would be around 1.6C.

The cold temps have given us an opportunity to do some things around the house. My craft room isn’t quite ready yet. I ordered some cabinets from Ikea – and most of them are working fantastically well – but I decided to change two of them out and they don’t arrive until next Friday. So the room won’t be on the last leg of completion until then. Once everything is in place I will be sending some art work to be framed. Lou still has to paint the door to the room and I need to have doors fitted to what used to be the reach in wardrobes. Lou also has to finish the butcher block tops he was been creating for the cabinets (they look great!!!) So, once all of that has been done – which should take about a month – my room will be ready and everything in its place. I must admit, the new drawers with my stamps all indexed and labeled in them works so much better than having them in a cabinet. I’ll share all my storage tips once the room is ready!

I’ll be back later in the week. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

  1. Jaydee, I swear you have the best stash of dies. I LOVE these fuel pumps. I think it’s great you didn’t use flowers. I just couldn’t find another idea. I might have to buy these now. Thanks for being an enabler!!!!The stenciled background adds so much detail! Everything about this card makes me smile! I can’t wait to see pictures of your craft room. It sounds wonderful! Have a great week, My Friend!

  2. I have had my eye on this set, and now that I have seen your wonderful card, I will probably spring. I so love the colors, the vintage feel, your design. There is a gas station a couple of towns over, a very historic town, that has an old gas station with these pumps. I hope it never comes down. Anyway, the labor of all that die cutting has really paid off. I love your wonderful card.

  3. What a fantastic card! These dies are simply amazing, wonderful and oh, so fun! You did very well using the colors with that touch of Mossy Meadow and whatever substitution you used for Calypso Coral! Have fun in your craft room! Can’t wait to see the results!

  4. This is super cute, Jaydee! It makes me think of my mom telling me how she used to put fifty cents’ worth of gas in her Mustang and go cruising around town all evening in the early 70s…with her little sister in tow so she wouldn’t be accused of parking with a boy! This is so perfect for anyone who’s a car enthusiast, and a fun way to use the colors. And I love that it’s NOT floral 😉 just because that seemed like a really easy answer with this palette, ha!

  5. How fun are these Jaydee? I can totally see why you were unable to resist these fun retro fuel pumps with their cute messages! I love that you went with non-florals too; I couldn’t get past my desire to stencil but you card proves the palette is more versatile than one might think. Glad to hear the craft room makeover is progressing well too.

  6. Absolutely perfect, Jaydee! I saw these dies and for some reason they did not appear in my mailbox. Hmm… maybe they still will. lol They would be so perfect for masculine cards. What a fun way to use the challenge colors! I love the retro vibe and these colors really enhance this. Thank you for creating this “cutie” using my challenge colors. Have a wonderful week! P.S. I can’t wait to see your finished craft room.

  7. Love it! What great masculine elements — it’s always fun for masculine cards when you have great starter pieces! Well… masculine but still sweet enough for Valentine’s Day 😁

  8. I want one of your magical self-filling mail boxes! This is just so pretty and so much fun. You’ve made those colours sing. The subtle stencilling behind the bowsers really elevates the whole design. And… I’m with you on Calypso Coral, although it’s a jot better than Pumpkin Pie! Have a great week. 🙂

  9. Those gas pumps are so darn cute and I love how you grounded them along with stenciling background! I think people either love coral (or orange) or they don’t, but your substitution looks fabulous.

I’m looking forward to seeing pics of your finished craft room, Jaydee! I envy you the drawers with your stamps; all my stamps and dies are in bins on shelves. I tell myself it’s keeping me strong when I have to lift them off the shelf lol!
