Spellbinders Vista View for Paper Players Challenge #780

Happy Sunday.

It’s the fabulous LeAnne’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a fun theme for us. One that has been ridiculously appropriate for us this week 🙂

I had to dig around in my stash for a while and saw that I had this fabulous La-La-Land patterned paper that doesn’t get anywhere enough use. It had a fabulous city scene with pink cherry blossoms and I thought it would be perfect for our challenge. But, I had to add a little bit extra to make it fit the theme. So, I brought out my Up in the Air dies to help me out.

Here’s a sneak peek:

I guess you might have noticed the umbrellas? Ah, I needed those to fit with the theme:

I began by die-cutting the umbrellas and then blending three different colors onto them. One yellow, one pinkish and one turquoise. I tried to pick colors from the background DSP so that they wouldn’t be too overwhelming.

I die-cut the window from some brown/grey card stock. Black was too overwhelming and white just washed out against the background.

I assembled all of the elements and mounted the die-cut window on the card base. However, I did add some foam strips behind the window as I wanted it to stand proud of the patterned paper so that I could add the umbrellas without squishing them.

I added two of the umbrellas towards the base of the window and the yellow at the top. I mean, who hasn’t lost an umbrella in a rainstorm?! 🙂

Here’s my full card:

I just love this paper. I also love the sentiment :-). I hope you will play along with us this week. We would love to see what YOU create with LeAnne’s Spring Showers theme.

As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for us:

On a personal note:

Well, it rained and rained and rained here this week. Yeah, and the temps dropped nearly 40 degrees overnight, too! However, we know that at this time of the year, Spring is around the corner and the spring/summer birds will be arriving soon. We are getting ready for the hummingbirds to return. We are at least 3 weeks out for their arrival, but they bring joy every year. Did you know there is a hummingbird tracking site? If you click here it takes you to Hummingbird Central and you can see where they have been sighted. It’s updated daily!

Our painting starts in a little over two weeks. We’ve been waiting for this since before we moved in and we are excited to get it done. After that, we have to wait a few months before the updates to the bathrooms begin. There is so much building going on in our city that most contractors don’t want to do a job as small as a bathroom renovation and are charging outrageous prices to do it. Add in the cost of petrol, higher import duties and lack of licensed contractors to the already busy building environment, and it all adds up to two things – long wait times and high costs! So, while we wait, we will finish up the last few things in my craft room and in the reading nook.

Luna is the one who has used it the most this week…….

That thing that looks like a duster is really Luna. I promise she does get groomed! She’d been rolling around and totally mussed up her coat but she was so comfy that I couldn’t disturb her to groom her 🙂

Meanwhile, Chilli has grown into his coat and become his handsome mature self. Technically, he still has a couple of years of maturing left – but he’s just about as fully grown as he will get. From now on he will put on a little more weight and add bulk to his coat.

What a handsome cat! I know I’m biased, but he’s just a big loveable lump. He’s a snuggler and a cuddler and is also a big wuss-puss who doesn’t much like visitors! He’s developed a new habit of stealing Lou’s socks and dragging them around the house. He then proceedes to toss them around and cause chaos 🙂

I had to buy a new bed for them as they were taking up a lot of space on my crafting desk. This one arrived and has proven to be popular. Mind you, it’s really only big enough for Charlie, but it doesn’t stop Chilli (who is 4 times the size of Charlie) to give it a go.

It’s hard to believe that Charlie is 17 years old. He still looks mighty fine for an old man 🙂

Here’s Luna on the same bed:

I thought it was a tight fit for her… until Chilli decided to give it a go:

How he squeezed into that I will never know. Well, technically, half of him was hanging out on all sides :-). While we are at it, can we talk about those Grinchy back toes!!!!??? Let’s take a look at them! There is long hair on the top, between the toes and underneath the feet!

My bestie said that I had taken a photo of Chewbacca’s feet and not Chilli’s :-). It’s so funny to watch him running around and chasing his spring on the wooden floors. He slips and slides going around corners and slams into walls and doors and doesn’t even flinch! He starts to turn the corner and his back feet slip out from underneath him as they just can’t get a grip and it starts to look like a Hannah Barbera cartoon 🙂

Anyway, I guess you have had enough of cats for now:-). I’ll be back later in the week with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

  1. Gorgeous card, Jaydee! That flying umbrella makes me think of the beginning scene in Mary Poppins when the wind blows all the other nanny applicants away : ) That patterned paper is beautiful and so are your kitties. Wish you could share some of that rain with us, it’s been very dry this year in Colorado. Have a wonderful week!

  2. Jaydee, this card is fabulous! It was genius adding those umbrellas to this beautiful city scene. I thought about Mary Poppins! I love that the cherry blossoms are blooming. Your popped up window makes this all looks so realistic. Your kitties sure are lucky to have you as their Mama. They all are beautiful and look so happy! Wishing you and Lou a Happy Easter!

  3. I just adore what you did with those papers, umbrellas and window frame. You have the most creative mind!! I love it! And I love seeing your kitties….I cannot imagine Chilli running around, he looks too “grown-up” to be doing kittenish things like that! They’re all so warm and cuddly, I get my vicarious kitty-cat fixes through you!

  4. When you said “who hasn’t lost an umbrella in a rainstorm” I thought of the many that at least blew inside out in the lovely, windy weather of Portland, Oregon! Because rain and wind are a fact of winter life there, I finally got smart and bought a more sturdy umbrella lol! Your beautiful card brought back many good memories, Jaydee. I love that particular scene from the patterned paper and window framed it all up so perfectly! Cannot believe how big Chilli is now, he’s sooo handsome. You have some gorgeous cats and thank you for generously sharing photos of them.

  5. This is truly a wonderful interpretation of the challenge, Jaydee! I love your Spring window with its rains and pastel-ish colors.
BTW, your cats are pretty wonderful too — they are definitely gorgeous, and Chilli is definitely royalty.

  6. How beautiful! The addition of the three umbrellas might have been necessary for the theme but really, they’re just gorgeous and look as though they were meant to be there. The window die is fabulous. The sentiment is great. Your choice of the dark neutral base sets the scene off perfectly. Great take on the theme, Jaydee. 🙂

  7. Love this Jaydee! you have created some lovely peek-through scenes with that window die and this one is no exception. The addition of the umbrellas for the challenge is inspired and the scene reminds me of Mary Poppins’ London. Gorgeous!
