Happy Sunday.
It’s the fabulous Brit Joanne’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it’s colo(u)r week. I decided to go clean and simple, even though it isn’t clean and simple week. I brought out one of my favorite sentiment dies called I’m Sending from Alexandra Renke. It says “I’m sending you sunshine, rainbow and butterflies”. Now, who wouldn’t want to receive all of those things? 🙂 I paired the sentiment with a background embossing folder from Spellbinders Leafy 3D embossing folder and some washi tape butterflies from Pinkfresh Studio.
Here’s a sneak peek:

I must admit I love those butterflies, especially when they were cut from washi over vellum. They have a light and airy feel to them. I also love the detail from the embossing folder.
Oh, and here’s Joanne’s colo(u)r challenge for this week:

I began with the base layer. I ran a Neenah 80# solar white panel through my Sizzix machine and then die the same with the Alexandra Renke sentiment tag. I popped that up with a couple of extra layers of cardstock to lift it from the base layer. I then die-cut the butterflies and adhered them with glue. Easy peasy!
Here’s my full card:

I hope you will join us as we would love to see what YOU create using rainbow colors. With what’s going on in the world right now more of us could use more rainbows, sunshine and butterflies!
On a personal note:
The house is a mess. Seriously. It looks like the crime clean up crew have been through. Everything is covered in plastic. Everything is pushed together in a pile, surfaces are covered and did I mention the plastic everwhere? Doorways have plastic covers with magnetic closures. However, we do think it will be worth it.
As a reminder, this is what we are trying to fix. The staircase has a pony wall and there is another pony wall in the upstairs loft area. The walls look so overpowering when you stand next to them, they block light from the transom windows in the loft area and, when you are in the loft area and are sitting down, you only see the pony wall – nothing else. I took this shot before we covered everything up.

By Tuesday afternoon this is what it looked like:

Oh, yeah and this is what the living room looked like! The cats kept getting very confused by the closed off areas and finally managed to work out that they could push the magnets to open them. Well, technically not ALL the cats worked that out. Poor Chilli is the most adorable, lovable cat, but he isn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier, if you get my drift 🙂

I must admit the contractors did an amazing job of keeping the dust under control and cleaning up after themselves. We should be finished by this coming Wednesday afternoon. The carpenter came on Thursday and took out the carpet and stairs and replaced them with birch treads and risers, which have been stained to match the floors. They will be back next week to do the railing on the stairs and loft area, as well as replacing the black mantle over the fireplace.
Taking down the walls really has made a difference, even on the staircase. We had to have stair lights on the stairs, but will no longer need those and, once the ceiling is painted white, the whole area should look even brighter.
As all the furniture is all over the place, my craft room looks like a furniture store as it has some of the furniture that was in the loft in there, consequently no work has been done in my room to finish it off. But, I know that all of this is worth it 🙂
I’ll be back later in the week with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Card recipe:
- Embossing folder: Leafy 3D embossing folder – Spellbinders

Love your sunshine, rainbows, and butterfly sentiment and those butterflies are so pretty! I hope that everything gets back to normal quickly this week with the construction–we had to have our shower redone the first fall we were in this house and what should have been a two-day project stretched into about 2 1/2 months, so I’m glad your contractors are much better than our first one was! I think the original space felt kind of industrial with the pony walls and the glass on top (at least, it looks like glass panels to me?) so I know you’ll like it much better when it’s all opened up and feels like the space can breathe properly. Have a good week!
This sentiment says it all, Jaydee! This card exudes calmness and serenity. I love the embossed background and the trio of rainbow butterflies. The sentiment panel steals the show. LOVE it! I can’t wait to see the finished remodeling project. What a transformation it will be! Have a wonderful week!
Simply Gorgeous!!!
This is so pretty, Jaydee! Those embossed sentiments are so cool, but the butterflies really made me smile–they’re beautiful!!
I adore your sentiment and the beautiful butterflies that I recognized right away. Your card is beautiful and exudes peace and happiness, which yes, we all need more of right now. In regard to your house, the plastic, fake doorways and dust will all be a memory and you will be blessed to enjoy your new surroundings, they look like they’ll be almost as beautiful as your card!
Who wouldn’t love sunshine and rainbows, especially these days? Jaydee, your card is darling and adding the washi butterflies to vellum is brilliant, they almost seem lighted from behind. And you’ve used a fav folder for the background; it’s an all-round good one, isn’t it?
And such a difference taking out those walls. They seemed so “heavy” and now you’ll have more light streaming in the house. I look forward to seeing the after photos!
Butterflies and rainbows – what could be better, especially in the dark times we seem to be living in now. I also think CAS doesn’t need it’s own week – it’s great any time! Especially when it looks as serene and elegant as this! I’m enjoying reading about your renovations and am excited to see how it all turns out. Good luck with it – may everything run smoothly and be over asap. 🙂
