Happy Sunday.
It’s the fabulous Ann’s turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a great sketch for us. I have no idea why, but I had this idea in my head to use the Altenew Bird on Bloom stamp and die set for this card. Seriously, I have zero idea why this particular stamp set popped into my head. What can I say, my mind works in very mysterious ways sometimes! 🙂
Here’s a sneak peek:

And here is Ann’s sketch:

I used a brick stencil for the three horizontal elements in the background. It’s not that easy to see on the card, but each of the brick panels has a break between them.
Once I had created the background, I stamped and colored the bird and the blooms with the matching stencil. I then die-cut them and mounted them to the base with foam tape. The final addition was the sentiment.
Here’s my full card:

I fell in love with this stamp set as soon as I saw it. In our last house we had a lot of ecinachea plants and we would leave the seeds on the heads in fall. The goldfinches used to love sitting on the heads and eating the seeds. I used to love watching them every year.
As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:
On a personal note:
I did manage to get some crafting in this week. As my constant crafting companion Charlie sits/sleeps in his hammock on my desk, I keep a little packet of treats in my drawer for him. I managed to capture this shot of him blissfully and peacefully sleeping in his hammock.

I just love that little face!!!! Anyway, it was all nice and quiet. Charlie was sleeping and I was in the midst of the mess of stuff on my desk when I decided he looked so cute that he deserved a little treat.
All I did was quietly open the drawer and extract the bag of treats – and this is what happened!

Charlie got out of his bed and the other three came running and jumped on my desk! Scattering stuff everywhere. Honestly, you would think they were never fed! I think you can tell where the treats were by the look on Luna and Smudgie’s faces! Charlie was heads down trying to chomp them down before the others got their big heads in the way. The bear on the right (aka Chilli) was watching a ladybug that was wondering across the window. Even though you can only see the front of him, you an see how much bigger he is than the others! Needless to say, the treats didn’t last very long!
I’ll be back later in the week with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Beautiful card…..wonderful coloring!! I just love to look at our cat’s face when he is sleeping……..so perfect & peaceful. Your cats are all beautiful…..can hardly wait to see how Luna looks as she matures. I am a BIG cat lover, as you can probably tell!! Love your card designs.
Your card is absolutely stunning, Jaydee! Not only is the image gorgeous, your coloring of it is perfect. I absolutely LOVE your interpretation of the sketch. Thank you for making my challenge shine. Oh, those glorious cats! At my house, I can call for the Boxer kids and they are oblivious. However, they can hear the treat bag open up from two miles away. Have a wonderful week!
Jaydee, this card is gorgeous! I love how you stenciled the brick panels instead of using paper. Your flowers and bird are so perfect. Your coloring is amazing! I love this card. Your sweet babies are just the cutest. I know they are so fun to have around to entertain you. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, My Friend!
Jaydee, I really love that you’ve chosen this gorgeous Finch and Coneflowers for your focal point – all I can think now is that it’s a good thing that the Finch is PAPER! What an adorable crew you have there!

Isn’t it funny how sometimes a colour, set or design just seem to magic their way into our head when we see a challenge? I’m so glad that the set you’ve used did as it’s a real beauty. As always, you colouring is perfect. Set against that brick wall, your bird on blooms is absolutely stunning!
Gorgeous card with your colors, and beautiful cats!
Gorgeous card, Jaydee! I love the depth of shading you made here, it’s simply beautiful. Had to laugh at all the kitties running in when they heard the treat bag…dogs do the same thing too! My girl Daphne knows which cabinet in the kitchen holds her treats, and anytime I walk by it she’ll give me a look and then look meaningfully at the cabinet like, c’mon lady hand over a treat!
When I lived in Portland, our bird feeder was busy, busy, busy and we always had oodles of finches, so I absolutely loved seeing the one you created for your card, Jaydee. The brick stenciled background is a clever take on the sketch and of course the cone flowers are gorgeous. That picture of Charlie is soooo sweet, thank you for sharing your kitty photos and stories. I hope you have a fabulous Thanksgiving!
This is such a fabulous card Jaydee! I love the brick layer for the panels and your goldfinch and echinacea are stunning! As for the cats – it’s a good job they don’t have opposable thumbs, else they would be in that drawer pronto I think!!
