Happy Sunday
It's the fabulous Stef's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a fun sketch for us. I was inspired to play along with a new set that I got as part of my Valentine's Day presents – Open Book from Waffle Flower. I fell in love with this set when I saw it. It's so fresh and I knew I was going to be able to make all sorts of fun cards with it.
Here's a sneak peek:
And here's Stef's sketch.
For my take on the sketch, I changed it to the horizontal instead of the vertical. I began with the Open Book Floral Stencils and the Open Book Coloring Stencil. For the latter, I used a finger dauber and applied versamark ink and heat set it with gold embossing powder. I also embossed the middle of each of the flowers with the same gold embossing powder.
I used two sentiments from the Simple Book Sentiments and Simple Story Sentiments sets – also by Waffle Flower. I wanted to give a little more dimension to my book, so I stenciled and decorated an additional pair of book pages and secured them behind the ones in front.
Here's my card:
And here's a view of the side of the book so that you can see the additional pages:
Honestly, such a cool set. You will see another card later this week that I made using this same set – except a kid's version!
I hope you will join us and play along with our challenge this week. We would love to see what YOU create using this sketch. As always, the design team have some fabulous inspiration for you:
On a personal note:
OK… so after a week full of ridiculously low tems – it's going to get into the 40s! The cats are loving being in the sun room where it gets nice and toasty. Unfortunately, it's not a 4 season sun room, so on -F days they get to stay inside. As soon as it gets about 15 they are allowed to go out and will stay out there until they just get too cold. Except Charlie. He goes out, scratches the mat, has a look around and decides to come back in and find the sun!
I thought I would share a couple of photos of Chilli. He loves being on the bed.
And then, when I came to bed last night I noticed that he had brought – and played with – not one, but two toys. A little green mouse and a little green spring. It looks really sweet and that look on his face is definitely saying don't you dare try and take these away from me!
You can see the mess he had made of the covers!
And while it is very sweet – he decides to play with these darned things in the middle of the night and chases them around the bed and under the covers! But who could be cross with that face!
I'll be back later in the week with more cards. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
hugs
Jaydee

Jaydee, this is fabulous! I am a book lover and this one is amazing. I absolutely adore how you made the additional pages behind the main image. The gold background is perfect. Such great sentiments, too! Your kitties love their new home, too! I hope you have a lovely week!
What a delightful card! I’ve spent many, many hours reading, especially on these cold winter days, and your “book” is a breath of spring air, even if the temps don’t show it!
Jaydee… what a fabulous set! The dimension is amazing and the fact that you can add extra pages… so cool. I agree… you will get a lot of use out of the set.
I want you to remember your cat has 2 small toys coming to bed… Archie’s favorite toy of late is a lambie that is the size of a 15 lb dog. It is like sharing a bed with two dogs! Stay warm.
What a fabulous card Jaydee – I love your new book die and that sentiment is just perfect! Can’t wait to see what else you make with this set. Love the soft peach tones of this card too!
Clearly there is no limit at all to your brilliance! This is magical. It is flat out beautiful but it’s the tiny details – like adding in a second page or a trio of score lines that take it from beautiful to breath-taking. Have a wonderful week. And that is one fantastic set!
This is such a beautiful and unique birthday card, Jaydee! I looked at that product when it came out and passed, but now I see, with your skilled use, the wonderful possibilities it has. I love the softly stenciled flowers and the gold beneath the pages really adds a touch of elegance. You have more patience than I with a young kitty playing on the bed in the middle of the night but he does look quite charming lol!
This is a fabulous card, Jaydee! Not only is the book die amazing, the flowers are stunning in this lovely color. You are going to have so much fun with this set. I can’t wait to see your next creations made with it. Two itsie-bitsie toys in bed sounds like heaven to me. I have two 80+ pound boys and a 65 pound girl sharing my bed, and each one has their favorite HUGE nighttime stuffie in bed with them…as well as the occasional squeaky ball. Nothing beats rolling over on a squeaky ball at 2:00 AM in the morning! Have a wonderful week!
