Spellbinders Musical Notes and Mini Guitar Dies for Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #704

Happy Thursday.

Those of you who have been around for a while might have seen my Dancin Figgy Pudding card where I talked about how important music has been in my life. You can read that post here. Well, you can imagine how thrilled I was when I discovered the new Spellbinders Dies that center around music! I saw the sketch across at Freshly Made and thought – ah…. perfect for one of those sets!

I used the Musical Notes & Stave Pop-Up as well as the Mini Guitar dies to make my card. I thought the stave was perfect for the sketch!

Here’s a sneak peek:

When I first get dies, I usually die-cut them with white cardstock and then put them together. This allows me to keep a finished item in the packet with the dies that I can always refer to. For some reason, and I have no idea why really, I decided to keep the colors to a minimum for my card.

I used the die-cut stave as a stencil to create the background top left to bottom right movement required in the sketch. I used Cloudy Sky ink to help create the stave. I then die-cut various elements from the Musical Notes and Mini Guitar dies using pale grey, mid-grey and white.

I put together the guitar and added that to my card. I took a sentiment from an Alexandra Renke set that I have called All Music. I thought the sentiment was perfect. So often music really can say so much more than words. An example of that would be a new track by Benson Boone called Momma Song. You can hear that song here if you haven’t heard it. It perfectly reflects how I feel when trying to do my genealogy and realizing that I know so little about my parents childhood, youth or the early years of their marriage; I know even less about my grand-parents. I must admit to shedding a tear when I heard this track.

Anyway, I digress :-). Once I had added the sentiment, I added the cleff and some notes and the sharp symbol. I added them in the colors that are on the guitar for continuity. I also love that the sentiment can lead to anything on the inside. It could be a love card, a get well card, a birthday card, an engagement card. Just about anything for anyone who loves music

Here’s my full card:

I love those soft colors and the uneven ink application through the stave and that sentiment says everything! I know the team across at Freshly Made would love it if you played along!

I’ll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Card recipe:

  • Dies: Musical Notes & Stave Pop-Up, Mini Guitar – Spellbinders
  • Sentiment: All Music – Alexandra Renke

  1. Lovely card, Jaydee, and a lovely story to go with it! I’ve just recently bought some older SU! music sets that I’m planning to use soon and I know what you mean about music–my mom, my brother, and I were all in band in school and my dad sang in the choir, so we’re all musical. My mom keeps talking about putting together a book of stories from our generations past too, not just birth and death dates but stories that give more of an impression of the kinds of people we had in our family that are no longer with us.

    1. WOW, Christy. Those are some musical chops. I bet celebrations at your house were fun! As for the generational stories…. oh, please, get your Mom to do that. It’s so sad how much gets lost to history even if just a generation.

  2. What a beautiful card, definitely portraying music that is meant to be enjoyed! I love the soft muted colors, as well as all the memories that music envokes

    1. Thanks, TK. It’s really amazing how many memories are stirred up with music. I love how it can lift us, and can make us cry!

  3. Love everything about this card! Gorgeous! And my 13 year old granddaughter got to see Benson Boone in concert last week in Boston! Lucky girl!

    1. Thanks, Linda. I bet your granddaughter had fun at the concert. He not only writes great lyrics, but he certainly is a consumate performer!
