Hi Everyone.
Happy Monday night. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.
This weekend I did something I have never done before! Yep! Something new! Splitcoaststampers had a virtual stampers night starting on Friday. I'd never played along before, but thought it was a great idea to challenge myself. The key was to create challenge cards every hour. You had 45 minutes to create the card. Now, that in itself is a challenge for me. Plus, you don't get to see the challenge until the start of the hour. Luckily they give you all weekend to create the cards, but you can play along on the hour if you like.
The theme was Pirates. So, all the challenges had a pirate theme. Although, the actual cards themselves were not all pirate cards. It was a lot of fun, and I did manage to play along in several of the challenges.
Tonight's card was a challenge called Blue Waters. It was the first of the challenges. The challenge was a color challenge. Kraft, Aqua and Pale Green. Extra bonus points if you threw in yellow.
I decided that the flower image from On the Grow would be ideal. Here's what I came up with.
I was quite pleased with the results considering I had a time challenge and I was coloring. Now, normally I spend forever coloring images…. but with 45 minutes, I had to knuckle down and do the best that I could.
For the focal image, I stamped it once on the top layer and then again. Once I had colored the second image, I cut it out with my paper snips and stuck it over the original. Just to give a little depth.
Card recipe – all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted
- Stamps: On the Grow
- Card stock: Whisper White, So Saffron, Crumb Cake
- Inks: StazOn. Image was colored using Copics
I will have several more cards to share with you over this next week. If you have never played along, it sure was fun and really forced me out of my comfort zone in terms of theme, colors, and techniques. It was also a great way to pass Friday night whilst I waited for Lou to get home!
On a personal note:
It was great to have Lou home this weekend. I know he's off again in a couple of days, but it was good to spend some quality time together. However, Saturday afternoon was spent buying a new stove. yep… the stove gave out on Saturday morning. Seriously.. we have had to replace the deck, the roof, the water heater and the furnace – all in the last year! I am hoping that we are good on things NOT breaking for a while.
We decided to go with an induction stove. It's really pretty snazzy. The only problem – the new induction cookware doesn't arrive until tomorrow. I'll let you know after a couple of days what I think about induction cooking. I love to cook and hated our last stove…. so was not particularly upset when it had it's own RAPTURE moment on Saturday! Certainly, it's time on earth came to an end :-) The guys came in this morning and took it away for recycling and put in our brand spanking, sparkly new one.
I will have some before and after photos of the garden tomorrow night. I cannot believe how much has grown in just two weeks. Lou couldn't either!
My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the storms again this weekend. How horrific that 15 or so seconds can cause so much devastation and loss of life. I hope none of you have been affected, or have family and friends that have.
Thoughts and prayers, too, for those of you who need a hug or a little lift.
As always, thank you for visiting my blog – your time, your visit and your comments are always very much appreciated.
Hugs
Jaydee

What fabulous colors in this, Jaydee! That aqua reminds me of my new laundry room, lol. :oP
I think it was absolutely brilliant of you to snip the image and adhere it to the main image to give it depth. I never would have thought to do such a thing. You’re always giving me such amazing ideas. :o)
The card is CAS, and yet, it has such wonderful things going on with design and texture. Well done in that limited amount of time–I never would have guessed you only had an hour to create it. It’s wonderful. :o)
I look forward to your before and after pix–who *doesn’t* love them?–especially as you are about a month behind us. Many of our spring flowers are dwindling now that the temps are hovering in the upper 80s to 90s (I REALLY don’t care for summers here…:sigh:) with high humidity. UGH!
A new stove? REALLY? Holy mackerel, girlie! What a way to enjoy time with your sweetie…sheesh. I’ve heard induction stoves are amazing–let us know how it works out for you, okay? I’m extremely curious! :o)
My prayers join yours for those in Joplin and elsewhere dealing with natural disasters. How utterly devastating. :o(
Hugs!
Oh my. This is one my favorite, ever, that you’ve done. Simply gorgeous.
We put an induction cooktop in our remodeled kitchen 15 years ago–they said it was way ahead of the time. Loved it!! It was smooth top so very easy to clean spills, and stayed cool. But it was as responsive as a gas stove, instantly hot when turned on, or off. And it used the Le Creuset pots and pans we already had. We moved a year or two later, and now have a “fancy” gas one that came in this house. It is a pain to clean, the gas sound bothers me, and it stays hot–even the very edge burned toddler gdd’s finger long after turned off. Hope you love induction, too!
Everything seems to break at the same time! How fun is it to shop for new things for the house. I bet you will love your new stove.
Your card is stunning. I have put off buying this stamp but now I must have it. I will CAS and use my new Copics which have been sitting for too long. How did you make that lovely dry embossing?
Glad your weather has cleared enough for some outside time. I just love this time of year-so conducive too just sitting on the deck and relaxing! Enjoy it before the heat comes.
Very pretty and I love everything about the card.
Have a great day!
Love the card, going to get this set after seeing yours. Love the pics of the birds. Yesterday the sparrows were feeding the young but they look as big as parents. My iris’s are starting to bloom and the Swedish Broom bush is in full bloom.
