Hi Everyone. Happy Monday.
Casethissketch has a great sketch this week and I couldn't wait to play along:
Immediately I saw this sketch I knew it would be perfect for a thank you card I had to make for our neighbors who invited us over to celebrate the 4th with their family. it was a fun afternoon and we really appreciated them making us feel so welcome – and putting up with the fact that we were both vegetarian 🙂
I used Altenew's Enchanted Iris for the focal point. I absolutely love this set and spent well over an hour coloring this image. I know it probably doesn't look like it, but there are hundreds of little strokes in multiple different shades to get the effect I was looking for. I needed to have a photo as inspiration… normally I would have used our own Iris' as the inspiration, however, they got decimated during our hail storm!
Here's a closeup of the coloring:
For the background, I used some of the Atenew bark speciality paper. I love the soft color and thought it was the perfect complement to the purple, gold and green.
For the sentiment, I used some gold mirror cardstock from SU and the die that comes with the Enchanted Iris Bundle.
Here's my card:
I did some quick stamping on the inside:
And found a (reasonably) close color envelope and stamped on that as well:
So, all the elements from the front of the card to the envelope tie together. I found the colored envelopes on Amazon. I generally do white envelopes, but decided I really needed to change things up a little 🙂
On a personal note:
What a glorious weekend it was… the weather was wonderful and our little sanctuary in our screened in porch was out of the sun and captures any breezes that come our way. It allows me to sit and watch the birds and the animals as they go about their day and I love it. The cats love it, too. They are safe behind the screen but are still able to chase the chipmunk and squirrels and chitter at the birds!
We also got to do a few small things around the house. The lights in the laundry were just not my style and I've been trying to find something that was a little more fun. I finally found a couple of flushmounts on Wayfair on sale and Lou changed them out for me.
The light on the left was the before….. the light on the right is the replaced one. In the photo the new light looks much smaller than the old one, but it really is the angle.
Here's a closeup of the little bit of bling :-) They really are pretty and are great when they are lit up as the little jewels are reflect the light differently
Of course a simple change of lights isn't quite enough :-) So, we are repainting and changing out the countertops. Ever since we moved in, both of us have been scratching our heads saying… "why did we pick THAT countertop!" It really is UGLY! Everytime we go into the laundry we comment on it. So, after 5 years, we decided…. time to change :-) I'll share some photos when we do make the changes.
I also wanted to share a photo of one of the other plants that we planted near the fountain a rather fabulous deplhinium. the bees love it!
I'll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

Very pretty take on the sketch!
I absolutely love your colouring! Thank you for letting us know how long it took…it’s a good reality check for those of us who tend to rush!
Beautiful card! Your shading and coloring is absolutely outstanding!
I love all the elements on your card, Jaydee – beautifully colored iris, wood grain background, lightly colored bricks on the panel, gold die-cut sentiment echoing with the yellow in the iris. Hideko p.s. Your new light is so pretty!
Thanks, Leigh 🙂

Thank you, Jeanette 🙂 I must admit, sometimes I just don’t have the patience and will color in 5 minutes. other times, I am more relaxed, or need something to focus on, and there is something very meditative about coloring on those days 🙂

This is just a perfect beauty! Love the subtle background, the show-stopping flowers and the metallic die cut. Fabulous!
Thank you, Hideko. And I am so glad you like the new light, too.
