Psalms 91:1 for Case This Sketch

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday.

I did get some time in my craft room this past weekend so have some cards to share with you this week.  

I made tonight's card for the latest sketch across at Case This Sketch:

 
The minute I saw this sketch I knew that I had the perfect stamp set to use for it – and one that hadn't really seen a lot of ink.  When I saw this stamp set in the Fun Stampers Journey catalog, I fell in love with the swallow image.  It's so rare that you find images like this.  It does come with Psalms 91:1 for the sentiment, but it isn't one that I would use.  However, I will be using the bird – a lot!
 
I found coloring this image immensely relaxing.  I paired it with some Blue Lagoon card stock and some old rub-ons that have been sitting in my "rub-on" drawer for nearly 6 years!     Oh..  I also enjoyed fussy-cutting the bird 🙂
 
I couldn't find quite the right color to use as the backing for my bird, so took out some vanilla card stock and got to work with my Peacock Feathers Distress inks.    I blended the color onto the vanilla base and then added droplets of water mixed with Perfect Pearls to add a pearlescent backdrop.

On a personal note:
 
OK… Spring arrived.  This morning…. and then left this afternoon.  Poof.  gone… just like that!  The Junco's are here and we think they must be the ones traveling north and over-wintered south of us.
 
Oh… and the Junco's aren't the only things that arrived!   This guy turned up …. and then about 20 of his friends arrived two days later.

I must admit, I do love their trill call when they arrive at the feeder and find that I miss them when they leave in fall.  Once they start to arrive, we know the Robin's and other birds will not be that far behind 🙂
 
Some of you have been so complimentary about my photo taking – and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.  I thought you might like to see what most of my photos look like 🙂

yep…… see anything?   no?  no, you don't need your glasses.   It moved… darned thing… just as I got my camera focused and pushed the button…. it flew off!

Can you see him?   find the oak leaf in the middle of the photo and move your eyes slowly to the left… yep… the backend of a Nuthatch disappearing between the two branches!
 
So… my reasonable shots are pretty rare… but I am always thrilled when I upload my photos and find one that I can share with you:-)

  1. I’m from Australia and I follow your blog mainly for your bird (and other wildlife) photos – as well as the cards of course 🙂 I’m so envious of your woodpeckers and cardinals! I’m not familiar with your little dark-coloured bird – what is he?

  3. G’Day, Jeanette! He’s a Red Winged Blackbird aka Red Shouldered Blackbird. You can read all about him – and hear his call – at this link https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Red-winged_Blackbird/id
    He’s part of the Blackbird family. The males arrive before the females to secure a good nesting place and they sit on the highest reeds (or alternatives) that they can to attract females. They are very territorial and regularly swoop down on my hubby when he is cycling and gets too close to their territory. 🙂
