It's my turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and I have a theme challenge for you:
Now, it's very rare that I make square cards, but some stamps really lend themselves to it. This Penny Black Bountiful is no exception.
I began by stamping the image onto X-press it card stock – it's my favorite card stock when I am doing heavy Copic coloring. I used the inspiration image from
Addicted to Stamps as the inspiration for coloring my fabulous hedhog and his bunch of flowers.
I spent a wonderful 20 minutes coloring the image, added the sentiment and finished up the card. BUT…. it just didn't have quite enough "something" I spent about 10 minutes looking at it and decided that it needed some dimension. So, I stamped the flowers again, colored selected ones, fussy cut them and then mounted them over the original. I did the same with one wing from each of the butterflies. OK… that was much better. I then added some Wink of Stella glitter pen to the flowers and butterflies and I was finished.
Here's my card:
Here's a closeup of the flowers:
The Players have created some amazing cards for your inspiration. I do hope you will check them out on their blogs:
On a personal note:
The flowers continue to flourish in our little patch of prairie. Right now the Bee Balm – Wild Bergamot – is the most profuse flower and it is attracting a lovely selection of butterflies.
How about this fabulous Easter Tiger Swallowtail:
Isn't he beautiful? I watched 6 of them all feeding from the Bee Balm yesterday.
I also captured a shot of this wonderful guy:
I cannot tell you how happy we are that we have managed to attract any butterflies, but the Monarchs have a very special place in my heart and we will continue to do everything we can to help them for as long as I'm on this earth 🙂
Mmm…. I came downstairs the other morning and our pole feeder system seemed to have been visited by something a little larger than a Chickadee!!!!!!
We think the Pterodactyls must have regenerated and visited the feeder! We cannot think of anything that flies that could have done that damage. This is a very strong pole feeder system. It wasn't a raccoon either! So, Lou will be spending time tomorrow replacing the pole – reinforcing it even more than it is already – and I have a torch handy in the bedroom just in case our night time dinosaur comes back!
I'll be back with another card tomorrow. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

Jaydee what an absolutely gorgeous bouquet of flowers! Love how you colored them, how you popped a few up, and addition of some sparkle. And wow! I wonder what did that to your bird feeder! Do you have bears where you live? It looks like it got hit by a car!
Oh, this little hedgie is so sweet! Love that big, beautiful bouquet of flowers. The extra dimension from the popped up flowers is fabulous and just the right touch. I don’t make square cards often either and I enjoyed getting outside my comfort zone–thanks for the push! ((hugs))
jaydee, I just love the square card challenge! That little hedgehog is just too cute! The dimensional flowers you created are beautiful! Love all that sparkle, My Friend! XX
Beautiful card…….lots of color. I don’t make square cards a great deal but I always love one when I see the square design. I will have to work on making one this week. I think you had a very large visitor at the feeder last night!! On a personal note……Hampton, our cat, is still doing OK. He does not like any of the special CKD food so we are improvising to keep him eating. He is drinking his water very well so I am happy about that. We continue to hope that he will be with us for many more years. I also follow Anne Marie but she hasn’t posted anything new since the end of May……has something happened?
I absolutely adore this card, that sweet little hedge hog is just so cute and the bouquet of flowers simply amazing. Love how you popped some of the blooms, gorgeous coloring!!!!!
Now, that bird feeder looks like a raccoon might have climbed it, unless you live were bears roam, now that could be a bit scary. Hope you were able to fix it.
Thank you for sharing with The Paper Players.
Maria.

Gorgeous card. Love the way you did the flowers!
Your card is inspiring. Thank you for mentioning you thought it needed dimension. You must have been right cuz it is amazing how the flowers and butterfly wings just made it! That gives me food for thought in my own attempts.
It was fun to make a square card, and I’m having a great time seeing what everyone created this week. Your image is adorable, and I love the how you colored the flowers.Such a sweet sentiment too!
What a fun card with an adorable image! The flowers popped right out at me and now I see why..gorgeous! Especially with the sparkle! And I love your butterflies, although I can’t imagine what did the damage to the pole…are you sure you don’t have a bear out there somewhere?
Oh Jaydee – that little hedgehog gets me every time! So sweet! And that bouquet!!! You rocked it by adding dimension and wink of stella! awesome card!
