A Natural Merry Little Christmas

Hi Everyone.  Happy Friday.

I hope everyone is enjoying this gloriously, cool, windy fall day.  Well, at least those of you who live near me!

On the techniques class across at onlinecardclasses the subject of paint was discussed and I used it for this card.  However, I had another idea!

I've had the Naturals Composition specialty paper for evah!   I've never quite known what to do with it and then I remembered, it had embossed areas already, so I might be able to use the paint on it.  I tried it out and was thrilled with the results.

Here's the paper without paint… in its natural state.

You can see the embossed areas.  I tried to capture a view both in and out of the light.  It's a pretty pattern, but the color is a little cold for me.

I remembered that I had a bottle of metallic gold paint in my old stash.   I grabbed it, ran it over the Naturals Composition paper and waited for it to dry.   I loved the final result.  It was warm and the embossed areas resisted the paint.   It does have slight streaking, but I decided I was totally OK with it.

I left it on my table for a couple of days waiting for inspiration to strike me as to how I was going to use it.  I hit upon the idea of using the Merry Little Christmas sentiment set and some gold embossing.

Now… what do I do about a bow?  Ah. Ha!   I have some burlap ribbon that I haven't known what to do with because of the size of it…it's pretty wide and doesn't work in a bow on a card.   However, with some Naturals buttons, some twine and some Crystal Effects, I was ready to go.

Here's my finished project…. a note about it though…. the metallic gold card stock is showing up a much colder color than it is in real life.  I took this photo about 5 minutes ago, the skies are grey, there is absolutely no sun and the light is fading fast.  So it made the metallic gold seem much colder.

Even though it doesn't look like it here, the golds do meld together quite well.  Don't you love that burlap bow?  I was pretty happy with the card and really love how the gold paint really brings out the pattern of the DSP!

On a personal note:

This week has been a very long week in terms of work.  12-14 hour days and I'm pretty exhausted!  However, I still have a job for now, which is more than can be said for many of my colleagues who were laid off in July, so I know I have to be very grateful for that.

Working these long hours does cut into my play time and I am going to have to try to make up some lost time over the weekend!   It seems it is going to be cold, wet and windy all weekend, so my craft room is a perfect place to hang out!

As always, thank you for your visit and your comments.   Welcome back Marina – hope you had a fabulous 50th reunion!

Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Oooh! I just love your card. The burlap bow is perfect. I will have to invest in some of that. I have several sheets of the specialty paper and didn’t know what to do with it. You solved that. Thanks for the inspiration. And have an enjoyable weekend with some rest included.

  2. Love what you have done with this paper with the paint! I love what you have done with the bow – I think it looks really cool on the card with that button. Must husband is part of the govt. shutdown right now and had to take furlough days the last couple of months too. All of this is cutting into my craft budget!

  3. Prefect and lovely card all the way around. Burlap bow……Outstanding.
    Enjoy your weekend

  4. I really love this so much! That burlap bow is wonderful and I love all the texture and the colors together. It’s utterly delightful!
I’m sure you ARE exhausted after such a long and draining week. It is always helpful to look on the bright side–gainful employment is definitely a good thing–but it doesn’t make those days any shorter. :oS
We got good news today–B was recalled! Hallelujah! His entire demeanor changed within moments. It was amazing to watch.
    hugs!
    P.S. Howdy, Lou! :o)
