Stained Glass for Christmas

 Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday.

When Lou and I were on our cruise at the beginning of last month… it's hard to believe it was a month ago already…. we visited St Saviour's Church.  As Bar Harbor was a summer retreat for some of America's richest families, there was a fair amount of money to create some beautiful windows in this church, including 10 designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany himself.

I've always been fascinated by old churches and try to visit anytime I am in a new city.   This little church is gorgeous.  Warm, inviting, serene… the perfect environment for church :-)   The windows themselves are amazing.  I was so drawn to looking at the detail in each of the windows that the tour guide went off and left us and I was quite happy to just spend time in the church and forgo the rest of the tour!

Here are some of the photos that I took:

This one was absolutely gorgeous.  I was so drawn to it and spent about 10 minutes just looking at each of the individual panes.

The details on the cloak were beautiful.  I felt that I could reach out and feel it.

This window is beautiful.  Truly spectacular.

So, what does this all have to do with a card?

Well, when we got back, I saw a stamp set on the PTI October release called Stained Glass.  I immediately knew that I wanted to create some of our Christmas cards this year using this set.   It's nowhere near as intricate as any of these beautiful windows, but it was enough to at least emulate the feel of a stained glass window.

I wanted the glass to be on the base and then have the front panel raised with the arch attached to the cut out.   I tried creating this on vellum but it was way too flat.   I then tried it on acetate and the pen lines were too noticeable.    I then realized that I could color it and then cover it in Crystal Effects to get the look of glass.

Here's the mock up… it's not quite what I will be sending out, because the colors are just wrong.  But I like the layout and I like the snowflake embossed layer.

If you wanted to do this as pure SU – there are a couple of sets, along with matching dies, that I think would work well. Christmas Collectables and   Festive Flurry

Here's my mockup

As always, thank you for your visit.  You know that your visits and your comments are always much appreciated.   Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

I'll be back on Friday

Hugs

Jaydee

  3. Hi Jaydee and friends!!
I have just returned from celebrating my 50th Reunion in Perú. I have filed all of Jaydee’s messages so I can read and look at them calmly.
One of these days plan a trip to Peru where you will be able to admire beautiful stained glasses as well as gold leaf covered wood works.
Glad to be back and to enjoy your messages.
