Thank you teacher for Color Throwdown

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

Hope you are having a great weekend so far.   I got to spend a little time in my craft room today and played along with the great color challenge across at Color Throwdown.   It really took me out of my comfort zone – and, that's always a good reason to do a challenge.

Here are the colors

My initial thought had been to go floral, but decided to go in a different direction entirely, one that was more in keeping with this time of year as summer starts to hover on the horizon!

I pulled out a new set that I got from PTI called Pedal Pushers.  Actually, its the same set that I used for Lou's card in last night's post.  This time it got a more feminine treatment.

and here's the inside… plain, but gets the message across 🙂

I really need to check out Color Throwdown more frequently as this is a really interesting color combo.  I love the strong colors and think it really would lend itself to a bold, graphic color scheme, too.

On a personal note:

Poor Lou.   He's had 7 different colors on the fireplace, not including the white primer!    The one we finished up on Friday night was the most gorgeous dark, deep, blue.  Stunning color – but just wrong for the fire place.   He had to use a white primer to cover it up before he could put on the next 4 colors.    We finally hit the jackpot and he has just finished painting the fireplace accent wall and is now onto the side walls.    We really LOVE the new colors.  We have never been satisfied with the colors in the new house.  In fact, I tried to change it a couple of weeks before we closed last year, but it was too late to do so as all the paint had already been purchased and the first coat on the wall.   We knew that we would have to live with the color for about a year before we changed it.    It really took a while to find the right colors to try, but we think it will be worth it when it's finished.   The family room looks a mess though!

Here's the work in progress….

I still LOVE that bird sculpture.   We moved it from where we originally had it and put it over the fireplace, and I love it there.   It's going to look even better with the new color!

We also went to the nursery today and bought some organic soil and some herbs to put in my newly arrived Grownomics elevated garden.   LOVE it.    It's 34 x 18 – just the right size for growing some herbs on the deck.   I planted Lemon Thyme, Sweet Basil, Lemon Basic, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Cilantro. mint and Chocolate mint!    I can't wait to be able to go outside and snip these wonderful herbs when I need them.  So much better than having to rush to the grocery, buy those silly little plastic boxes full of herbs, which is such a waste when you really only want a few leaves!   As the herbs won't survive winter, I will dry them at the end of fall, before the first frost.

As always, thanks for stopping by my little neck of the stamping woods.  Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

  1. what a great looking card.
Looking forward in seeing your newly fresh painted walls.
Oh, you’re going absolutely love your herb garden.
    Wishing you a wonderful day.

  2. Oh dear–poor Lou! Out with the paintbrushes again, huh? I understand about something just not being the “right” color and I can’t wait to see the finished product! :o) And yes, that bird sculpture is absolutely delightful. :o)
As for the card–you nailed it! That is quite the color challenge and did you fussy cut that bike???
Hooray for planting and spring and herbs and such! :o) Some of mine simply aren’t coming up so I’m going to have to hit some of the organic vendors at the FM Saturday and pick up some cilantro, thyme and parsley. My basil are looking like they’re going to do something, though, so I’m not complaining. :o)
Is there now way the planter can be brought inside? My mom managed that with her herb bed this past winter and they made it!
    Hugs!
