CAS Birthday and what’s at the feeder

Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday.

I have a few photographs to share with you tonight, and a very quick card.

Let's start off with the card….   it was for the polka dot with bling, black and white birthday card challenge, but I forgot to add it to the challenge site:-)  So, I will just share it with you instead.

Polkadot birthday (1 of 1)

I have to share a couple of photographs with you taken this weekend.   The weather has gone from 98 degrees down to the 40s and it has been raining a fair amount.   The wetland is starting to sprout spring foliage – very quickly.   The rain has been fairly consistent and quite steady, so the wetland area is really living up to its name:

Wetland (1 of 1)

This was taken from inside the kitchen door… it was too cold and wet to go outside!  It's really looking fabulous and it's great to see so much green, especially after this long winter.

Let's take a look at who has been visiting the feeder:

Feeder (1 of 1)

yep… the grossbeak is back!   We are so pleased.

Mallards (1 of 1)

The mallards have taken up residence in one of the little pondy areas in the wetland.   They woke me up on Saturday at 5.30 and they were REALLY quacking up a storm.   I went to the window and saw the fox.   He was stalking them and when they flew off, he jumped into the air to try to reach the female.  I didn't see what happened, because it was behind a tree.   Anyway, I only saw the drake for the rest of the day and was convinced that she had become Foxy-breakfast.   However, I saw her waddling around in front of the male a couple of hours later.    She obviously escaped.

Later in the day, I noticed something strange sitting on the steps of the deck.   Then I knew what the ducks had been quacking about so furiously.  It wasn't the fox…. he was just additional stress…. the raccoon had obviously been around and stolen an egg.   the empty egg shell, with just a couple of teeth puncture marks on it, was lying on our steps.  Poor Mallards.  it really wasn't their day!

I'll be back tomorrow with a few more photographs for you.   I don't have any new cards, I still haven't been into my stamping room.    It was great to get out into the fresh air and just switch off from everything this weekend.   We visited a couple of nurseries, bought some plants, ordered a new elevated planter box for me to plant herbs and just generally chilled.   I'm hoping to be able to get into my stamping room this coming weekend, but I will see how I feel about it.  I must admit, this is the first time in all these years, that I have really parked my mojo outside the back door.  Does anyone else have those times?   Just not wanting to stamp?

My continued thoughts and prayers for all those families affected by the storms these last couple of weeks.   The photographs of such destruction defy comprehension.

Warm hugs and prayers to those of you who need a little lift tonight, and thank you to those of you who left prayers for me.  They were very much appreciated

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Hi Jaydee
I just love all your nature stories. I just wanted you to know I find them fascinating! I haven’t posted on your blog in ages and decided I needed to take the time and “thank you”. I love birds and wildlife.
We live somewhat in the country and have a few visitors but not like you do!

  2. While I think the card is wonderful–what’s not to love about black and white and glimmery objects?–I have to say, I was more than happy to just have an update from you letting us know you are doing okay.
Well, that, and I’m SO loving your wildlife! You are a good month behind us spring-wise and it’s lovely to see those new leaves popping out and everything starting to green up. There’s something about that renewal of life that I just love. :o)
I relieved to hear the female mallard was NOT a foxy lunch, however, I wish her eggs hadn’t been lunch for a raccoon. I know, I know, circle of life and whatnot, but still…nature can be quite cruel.
I hope things are starting to settle down for you a bit. And, yes, I know all about the mojo taking a hike and having no desire to stamp. I find that happens to me when I have to decide if I would rather read or play a game with Brien or stamp. Oh for more free time…;o)
Hugs to you, and continuing prayers.
P.S. Hi Lou! Keep taking good care of our girl. :o)

  3. black and white cards make such classy cards and yours is no exception.
Oh….’Fred and Ethel’ duck. Sure glad that ole fox didn’t get Ethel. Hopefully there will be more Fred and Ethels in the future; that darn old raccoon anyway.
Ok, gotta ask. I took a closer look at your platform feeder and was wondering how in the world did you secure that to the top of the shepherds hook?
Thanks for sharing alittle bit of nature with us once again. I so enjoy it.
Have a great day and wishing you a fantastic and safe holiday weekend.
    thank you

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who have been effected by the storms that are tearing through the country.
    Y’all stay safe.

  4. Hi Jaydee, enjoying those photos of your “critters”. Sometimes a break in any crafting is good for the soul, after all it is supposed to be FUN. Take care.

  5. Yes, I know about not wanting to stamp because I just got back to it this week. After total knee surgery January 29th and losing our wonderful grand daughter a week later, my mind was too boggled and the surgery pain was not conducive to rolling up to my desk. I have finally joined the world again and am STAMPING!
Love your pictures of your animal reserve — keep them coming.
