Hi Everyone. Happy Tuesday.
Who doesn't remember cuckoo clocks? I remember when I was little (many moons ago!), having a cuckoo clock was such a novelty and evoked thoughts of far away places (like the other part of Europe in my case!) Oh… it didn't hurt that it often had the words "Black Forest" associated with it. That term always evokes yummy, gooey, chocolatey goodness in the form of a Black Forest Gateau. Cuckoo clocks were always so cheerful. They brought a smile to your face. I think you could say I have fond memories of them 🙂
Anyway, what does this all have to do with my post tonight? Well, that's easy. I hadn't actually taken much notice of some of the stamps in the Easy Events set. When I saw this little cuckoo clock – along with the sentiment of "hello", I knew that I had to use this for cards for the Enchanted Makeovers card drive.
It's a little image, so I had to think for a while about what I should do with it to give it more visual space on my card. It also left me with a lot of white space and I think I found just the right stamp to help with that.
Here's what I came up with:
The Pumpkin Pie card stock was just a little too bright for me, so I distressed the edges with a little tea stain. I did the same with the polka dot DSP, just toning it down gave it a little more depth. I inked up my Woodgrain Background stamp with Crumb Cake and stamped that onto the Very Vanilla card stock.
Last thing, I inked up the image from the Easy Events set and stamped that onto a piece of scrap Very Vanilla card stock. I colored it using Copic Markers and then mounted it, using Stampin' Dimensionals, onto a distressed piece of Pumpkin Pie.
I left a little space at the bottom to add some twine. To keep the twine in place, and make sure it doesn't move in the mail, I adhered it using scortape at the back and then secured the knot with a little Crystal Effects underneath. Adding the larger piece of PP and the twine helps to make the image a little more substantial. The woodgrain background stamp just ties in with the them of the Black Forest 🙂
Rach, thank you for letting me know that you will be sending cards. Mary, thank you also – I'll send you an email tonight with the details. I really appreciate you both offering to participate! I'm hoping that we will reach that goal of 1000 yet!
On a personal note:
I had intended to try and get some exercise during the day, however that didn't work out. A quick rush to the fridge to get lunch and then throw it into the microwave was about the highlight of my exercise during my working day. As soon as I finished work, I had 1001 excuses as to why I couldn't possibly go and exercise….. and I forced myself downstairs, put on my running shoes and made sure I exercised before I could possibly find another excuse!
Sally, I watched Michaela last night. She really has a great coach in Blake and he certainly is doing everything he can to extend her talent and get her through to the next round. Thanks for letting us know about her. I hope she continues to do well.
Rach, thanks for the reminder about updating the counter… I am off to do that right after I have done my blog post!
I need to keep my camera on my desk. I saw two foxes making their way across the cul de sac today. It always gives me a thrill to see them.
I was up in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago and as I turned around and put my feet on the ground next to the bed, I caught the white underfeathers of a Barn Owl swooping past the window. An outdoor light was just at the right angle to catch the very white feathers. He was about 3 feet from the window and it was a fleeting glimpse. We sleep with the windows open and night and his wings did not make a sound. I'm guessing he was on his way to the stump to check out the wetland. We hear the Great Horned Owls very regularly, but rarely see or hear the Barn Owl.
As always, thank you for visiting my little part of the stamping blogosphere. Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Hugs
Jaydee

Hooray for exercising and remembering to update! I’m so bad about that. I’d go for a week and then have to add them all at once. Oops!
The cuckoo–I LOVE it! There’s a shop in Busch Gardens that sells cuckoo clocks, and if you find a nice employee, they’ll set them off for your little one. Hannah was enchanted with them. :o) This card reminded me of those times, thank you for the smile. :o)
Foxes? AWESOME! Barn owls? So so elegant and majestic. You are in fauna heaven. :o) (Avian heaven as well!)
Hugs!
P.S. Hiya Lou! :o)
Unfortunately Michaela did not fair too well last night. I am sure she was grateful to even make it as far as she did and she is only 16, so hopefully something good will come of her experience. I too love cuckoo clocks. We had them in our house as my husband was stationed in Germany and he brought back some beautiful musical clocks from the Black Forest. Also the Hummel figures. I loved those too.
I have always loved your attention to detail, especially when it comes to coloring, and this card is a perfect example. My grandma has always had a cuckoo clock. When I would stay with her for a few weeks in the summer, I would beg her to silence it so I could sleep better. We were just visiting her a couple of weeks ago. She is 92 and both her and the clock have don’t work quite as well as they did in their earlier days, but both are still ticking!
Hugs to you and Lou and all of the Fur Babies!
