Partridge in a Pear Tree and a plea for little dresses

Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday.

Before I start tonight, I'd like to send extra special hugs and prayers to Beth and her family tonight.  Beth's beloved father passed away today and I know that their heart will be heavy with such a loss.  Beth, I am thinking about you all.

Lou and I begin our first day of vacation tomorrow.  I had been at Barnes and Noble looking at the card making magazines and thinking to myself that I really needed to do something with the sewing machine that Lou bought me for Christmas about 8 years ago.  However, I stood in front of the craft magazines and was not inspired.  Well, sometimes the universe has a strange way of showing you!

I saw the title of a segment on MSNBC as I was checking out the weather.  I was compelled to stop and watch the video on the website.   You can check it out here.  Well, that was the push that I needed to get out my sewing machine.  So, we just went to Hancock Fabrics and I bought a whole stack of fabulous cotton prints and will be spending time over Christmas make dresses for little girls in Africa who have nothing but the single piece of clothing they wear every day.

This particular cause is very dear to my heart.  I spent 20 years living in Africa and have seen so many of these little girls and know the poverty that surrounds them.  If I can do one thing to brighten their day, with a pretty little dress, it seems a perfect  use of my time – and my sewing machine.

I know many of you sew and wondered if you would be willing to use up some old cotton, old pillow cases, etc. to make some little dresses?  If you would like to help out, please leave a message and let me know.  I will, of course, do the usual drawing for SU goodies for those of you who decide to help out.  I do hope that you can find it in your heart to participate.  All the details on what is required, including instructions on how to make the dresses are contained at this link.

So, I will have few cards over the next week or so, as I will be concentrating on making dresses.  I will update my blog though and show you what I have manged to make.  Tonight, I have a little update on the house.

Here was a photograph I took of the lot back in October.  Notice the dead stump.

Lotoctober (1)

All I can tell you is that it is so hard to gain any sense of perspective and depth on these pictures.  The stump really isn't that close… but looks it…. The trees on the otherside of the wetland aren't close either… but they look it.

Anyway, here's a picture that we took at the lot on Monday.

Lotdecember

You can see the stump in the background and Lou standing in front of what is the third garage.  It was so difficult to get a sense of scale when we were there.  On the left – those two uprights… well they are the sides of what will be the stairs on to the porch.  It was a COOOOOOOOLD day, with wind howling up the valley and across the wetland, we didn't stay very long!  The builder has promised that they will leave the stump and we are so pleased about that.  We have become inordinately fond of that dead tree, especially as you can see that the woodpeckers use it regularly.

Now… I thought you might like to see what Buzbee was up to last night.  In my letter to Santa I did ask for some goodies for the Wii.   Do you think Buzbee was giving me any hints?

Buzbeewii

or was he about to play Mario Cart and I caught him before he could get the remote?  I'm not sure?

Oh…and as most of you came for a card….. here's a card for tonight.   This is a digital image that I downloaded and had great fun creating into a card.  I know you will all have an ear worm after reading the sentiment

Partridge (1)

As always, thank you for spending a little time in my area of the stamping blogosphere.  I hope your Thursday is a fabulous one.

Warm hugs and prayers tonight for those who need a little lift… and again for you, Beth.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Oh! After watching that video I desperately wish I could sew. I would dearly love to help out and think I could figure out what to do but I’m sans sewing machine and I don’t think they want something sewn by hand. Drat. What a beautiful thing Rachael started–it made me cry. I’m SO glad you’ll be joining her in her cause. I can’t WAIT to see what you come up with.
Whoa! You have a foundation already! That’s amazing! I’m eagerly awaiting progress reports from that front as well. :o)
Buzbee, Buzbee, Buzbee. I KNOW you were off to create your own Mii and beat the pants off Jaydee and Lou’s Miis in Mario Kart. I know that’s how you elves roll. ;o)
Your card is so sweet. I do so love that simple layout.
Beth, you and your family are in my prayers. Losing a loved one is never easy, and so much worse for occurring so near Christmas.
    Many hugs to you.

  2. Like Rach I really wish I could sew, PLEASE let me know how else I can help the cause–paying the postage to mail the dresses, purchasing some fabric and notions or anything else you can think.
WOW! Foundations for your new home and life already…I am so excited for you and am looking forward to frequent updates.
I think that you caught Buzbee as he was setting up an Elfin Wii Tennis Tourney. The lack of snow has made him a bit of a “Cotton-headed Ninnymuggins” and he was hoping a good dose of exercise would clear his head. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
And of course I can’t forget the card-fabulous color choices–I LOVE green and yellow together. (And it’s not just because of a certain football team from the next state over.) Your coloring and shading has left me in awe, as it always does.
Beth, my thoughts and prayers are with you I’m so sorry for you loss.
    Smiles to One & All.

  3. I have a new sewing machine I am dying to put more miles on it. My January will be spent sewing dresses! Thank you for sharing this site.
Love your daily blog and card ideas.

  4. Ooh I love this card! So busy this year that my cards remained unmade – another mid-year resolution bites the dust! One thing I have done this year is to sort all of my fabric so have quite a bit of fabric that would be perfect for dresses – please send me the dets!
    Merry Christmas, and happy holidays.
