Hi Everyone. Happy Labor Day!
I hope you are all having a great weekend. Me? Oh, yeah! This is going to be a very quick post as I continue to work on getting the cards ready for our Operation Write Home drive. For those of you who submitted cards for this drive, I wanted to let you know that my trusty assistant, Mr Bilbo Baggins, will be drawing two names for the grand prizes tomorrow night. So, I hope you will come back tomorrow night to see who are the recipients of Stampin' Up! goodies – of their choice – courtesy of moi! It's always so exciting for me!
Embellish Magazine had a fabulous challenge this week – it's a color challenge with a twist. The colors had to be used with stripes. Mmmm… All sorts of ideas ran through my head and I finally decided to do something a little different… stripes, check. colors, check! (This is another card that will be going in the box for the OWH drive.)
Here's the inspiration photo, you can click on it to make it larger. It's a really cool photo!
I used the white Baker's Twine as the stripes. I individually colored each strand with Basic Black, Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze and Crumb Cake markers. Once the strands were dry, I adhered them to the focal layer using snail and tucked them under.
I then colored a single piece of white Baker's Twine in small portions and used that to feed through the button, hopefully managing to get most of the colors in the twine in the button to match the stripes.
To add to the stripe them, I stamped the Medallion background stamp onto a Baja Breeze layer and ran it through my Big Shot with the stripes embossing folder. A simple sentiment, perfect for a serviceman/woman to send home to a loved one, was all that it needed. I then secured the focal layer to the medallion/striped layer using Stampin' Dimensionals.
So, what do you think? Can you see the inspiration? Don't forget to pop along to Embellish and check out the design team cards, and the submissions.
I'll be back tomorrow with deets on the OWH drive winners. In the meantime, hugs and prayers for those of you who need a lift.
Jaydee

What a brilliant idea to color the twine with the markers! TFS
Oh my, I do hope you are chosen – this is so beautiful.
What can I say? Another fab card from you Jaydee. Thanks for sharing with us.
Good luck to everyone that is in the drawing. : )
I think you nailed that one! Right on with the stripes. I was thinking to myself as I looked at the challenge-oh my! how would stripes look on a card? But you did it! Another great card!
Well, we just saw Lil off. She’s going to have such a great day! :o)
You inspire me all the time to think outside the box. This time it’s the twine coloring. That is an absolutely brilliant idea!
Those colors aren’t ones that I would typically use together and had the potential to compete something fierce for attention when used as bold stripes. Your use was perfect.
I can’t wait to hear the card total–I’m really excited!
Hugs to you. :o)
P.S. Hey Hi Howdy, Lou! :o)
What a fun card! It’s perfect for the OWH drive. I love the simplicity of it & I can definitely see the inspiration of the photo. Did not know you could color the baker’s twine with the markers. Keep looking at the striped embossing folder, but worry that I’ll have it off center all the time. Is it hard to keep straight?
clever, clever stripes!
SO SO SO Cool! Great job.
Thank you so much for joining the Embellish challenge!
