Happy 90th Birthday, Momma Rose – and we have a winner

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday!

Firstly, I would like to say happy, happy, happy birthday to Momma Rose.  Rose turns 90 today and we are so grateful to be able to share this wonderful day with her.  I just wish that we had been in England to share in the joy in person.  She spent the day surrounded by her family and lots and lots of love!

Now, I would like to thank all of you who participated in my drive to reach 5,000 comments!  I can't tell you how much fun I had reading all of them.

You took Lou and I – and each other – on a journey through childhood evoking memories of reading books from Nancy Drew to Winnie the Pooh to Dagwood and Blondie.  Jan reminded me of how much I loved THE SECRET SEVEN.  I even wrote my own version starring Nina and Gina :-)  Some of you even reminded us of how it was not seen as seemly for girls to be too educated and reading was often considered to be time wasted.  I am sooooo pleased that my mother felt differently!  She taught me to read and write, to do basic numbers and tell the time, all before I went to school at the age of 5.  She instilled in me a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge that has stayed with me all through the decades.

Favorite foods extended from PB&J to fried cheese to chocolate chip cookies and strawberry shortcake, with cream straight from the cold room on the farm, to popsicles that came in "real" flavors!  Sophisticated memories of shrimp cocktail and sirloin steak and baked beans in a sandwich.  (LOVE baked beans btw!)  I was surprised that noone said chip shop chips in newspaper on a cold winter's evening with lots of salt and vinegar.  Sorry everyone… a british thing!  I was surprised that none of our Oz friends mentioned Marmite sandwiches!

For TV shows – you reminded me of shows I had forgotten and that made me smile.  Some I had never heard of (Captain Kangaroo) and some that were on television decades after I stopped watching children's television (Sesame Street!).  The reference to I Love Lucy had me laughing just thinking about Lucille Ball.  I still remember Lucy at the chocolate factory!  Classic!  The Addams Family and the Munsters – OHHHH… I was so pleased that we imported THOSE from the USA!  Love Jeopardy…still.  Mr Ed the talking horse – now that brought back memories.  I was surprised that no-one mentioned My Friend the Martian or the Beverly Hilbillies.  Or The Railway Children – an English show!

I had an absolute BALL 🙂 reading all of your responses.   Thank you for being so willing to share.  Now… you are all dying to know who won the blog candy, right?   WHO WAS THAT PERSON WHO MADE THE 5,000 COMMENT????

Here's the comment:

Love this card and am so hungry now or is it thirsty, now! lol I loved The Bobbsey Twins series and as a younger child watched Howdy Doody (hope spelled it right) and for favorite food, chocolate chip cookies. Mom made them with oatmeal. I do too!

Congratulations, Jeanne!  Please send an email to jaydeestamping @ charter.net with your snail mail address and I will send you your blog candy stash!

I'll be back tomorrow with a card – and maybe another blog question.  This has been so much fun!

Prayers and hugs for all of you who need a little lift today.  As always, thank you so much for spending a little time in my area of th stamping blogosphere.  I really do appreciate your visit – and your comments.

Hugs

Jaydee

And, last, but certainly not least, Happy Birthday to Momma Rose! 90 years is most definitely something to celebrate!
    Hugs to one and all!
    P.S. Hi Lou! :o)

  2. Congratulations, Jaydee, on hitting such an impressive milestone!
You would have loved to be with me this past Sunday. Driving home from the lake I found patches of wild flowers in the ditches. The first one was huge yellow lady slippers. The second one of note was humungous pink lady slippers, with some wild iris thrown in for colour contrast. Back at the bush line were columbine, wild roses and (I think) dogwood. Wandering among them taking photos was worth the two ticks I picked up. Fortunately I found them before they bit.

  3. Congratulations Jeanne! I was also an avid reader of the Bobbsey Twins.
Wishing a very Happy 90th Birthday to Momma Rose, a wonderful milestone.
Jaydee I have never tried Marmite, well not that I can remember!! I did however eat a lot of Vegemite and cheese sandwiches! They were nice but not as nice as cheese with Melon and Lemon Jam sandwiches!
Better get back to the craft room, need to finish off some samples to show the girls at craft group tomorrow!
