Hi Everyone. Happy Tuesday night.
Happy 1st day of summer! Yes, it's the summer solstice. Aren't I supposed be covered in wode, in a long flowing hemp or linen dress camped out at Stonehenge? :-) Nah… not this year, maybe I will just sit here and enjoy typing up my blog post and celebrating the official start of summer a little differently!!!
I made tonight's card using the Paper Players CAS sketch from our challenge this week. The Players realized that this is our 52nd sketch! So, not only are we celebrating the first official day of summer – but 1 whole year of Paper Players challenges. I am totally indebted to Lesley for inviting me to be a member of this team. It's the coolest bunch of crazy talented, errr. all round crazy… stampin ladies. I hope they won't mind me calling them crazy – but I am crazy mad about all of them!
So, here's my second card using the sketch. I called it "Baby, Bling my Wheels!" It also serves as an intro to a new blog question…. more about that, after the card!
Isn't that cute? I mean, seriously, what male doesn't like blue and a little bit of bling on his wheels! And he does have the rather smug look on his face! 🙂
Card recipe – all ingredients Stampin' Up, unless otherwise noted:
- Stamps: Baby Bundle, A Word for You
- Inks: Pool Party, Night of Navy, Basic Grey, Not Quite Navy. I used copics to color "Charlie's" face and my blender pens and Basic Grey ink to create the shadow under the pram.
- Card stock: Whisper White, Night of Navy
- Accessories: Basic Rhinestones
I stamped the focal image onto the focal layer and then again onto a spare piece of card stock. I colored all elements of the initial stamped image, except for the carriage. I colored that on the spare piece that I had stamped. I snipped around it and then stuck it down on top of the original focal image. I did the same for the baby face. It gives it just a little bit of depth and texture and makes little "charlie" – yep, I named him over a year ago! – look as though he is sitting inside the carriage.
To bling his wheels – I took basic rhinestones and colored them using a Sharpie marker. These basic rhinestones are fabulous and the fact that you can color them really easily, makes them even more versatile.
Now… as you have all enjoyed reading the responses to the blog questions over the past week – I thought we should use the upcoming HUMP DAY to establish a weekly blog question. I thought answering a question mid-way through the week seemed like a good idea 🙂
BLOG QUESTION FOR THIS WEEK:….. and what it has to do with this card!
As it's the first day of summer and school's out for most children and teachers are taking a well deserved rest…. I thought it would be a good idea to ask a teacher question.
QUESTION: WHO was your favorite teacher at school – any grade – and why?
To add to the fun, I will be sending a little bit of bling in the post to one lucky person who answers the question. The name will be drawn at random and will be announced on my blog before the new question is asked next week.
I'll start you off……
It's tough to decide on a single teacher. Mrs Bingham and Mr Carter were my two favorite teachers from junior school. We also had a brand new teacher in my last semester of junior school. I was all of almost 11. This was her first teaching assignment and she brought us all take aways from her recent trip to Japan. A pair of chopsticks and mint topped toothpicks. For some of you that might not sound exotic… but it sure was for me! She arrived dressed in traditional Japanese garb, in the most amazing robe, with her hair pinned back and wearing black flat silk Mary Janes. She looked so exotic and amazing. She told us all about Japan and her trip. A pity I cannot remember her name – but I sure remember her. She really reinforced what a biiiig world this is – and how this world really needed exploring.
High school. by far…. my two most favorite all time teachers….. the Great Mrs Tucker and the fabulous Mr Clarke. Mr Clarke taught geography. I think he would be amazed to know that I have visited over 30% of the world's countries and still remember so much of what he taught. In fact, I think he'd be VERY surprised!
But.. the overall winner is definitely the very venerable, much maligned, sometimes greatly appreciated MRS TUCKER! (My best friend Pam – if she is reading this – will be shuddering at my choice!)
Mrs T was my class form teacher, my Religious Instruction teacher, as well as my English teacher in my first year of high school. She taught me to appreciate – NO LOVE – the English language and the written word. She taught me to stretch my vocabulary beyond the bounds of an 11 year old. She taught me that you can be firm, control a class, but be kind and compassionate. Ultimately, she taught me something I would never have expected. How sometimes, the strongest, most amazingly together people, can fall apart. 10 years after I left school, I went back to England and decided I wanted to look up Mrs T. Only to find that her husband had died a year earlier and Mrs T had decided that she could no longer continue to live without him and had taken her own life. Seriously… it broke my heart. However, she has stayed with me for over 40 years and the lessons she taught me back then, continue to this day. Mrs T… you were the greatest.
Actually, I have a photograph of my first year – taken with Mrs Tucker. Anyone correctly guessing which one of these cute little girls is me – will get a brand new roll of ribbon from the new catalog. How about that? Another incentive to add your own favorite teacher memories and have a look at this picture!
Isn't that just a motley crew…. seriously? But there is Mrs T, God Bless her! So… which one do you think is me? No, Lou. You can't play cos you know!!!! And anyway, what would you do with another roll of ribbon in the house!!!
I know that so many of you are teachers and I say a BIG THANK YOU to all of you for what you have done!
As always, thank you for visiting my little area of the stamping blogosphere. You know your visit means a great deal to me – and your comments are enjoyed by not only me – but each other! Over to you to tell us about your favorite teacher.
Prayers and warm hugs for those of you whe need a little lift.
Hugs
Jaydee

That really is the best sketch, Jaydee. I’m bummed I’m on the road and can’t play along this week. :o( But, I’ll just make a card or three when I get home. ;o)
Your card is so so cute. I’m loving the new Pool Party, and it works beautifully with Night of Navy.
My favorite teacher? Oh dear me, I don’t think I can choose just one. I’ll go with the first one that popped in my head–although I have something like five or six of them. :o)
My favorite would me Mrs. Maddy. I had her for Algebra II and Calculus I in high school. She was an amazing teacher. She made math accessible. She challenged us to challenge ourselves. She would take the hardest problems and tell us to look for something like that on a test. If you struggled, she would stay after to help you. Best of all, she taught math principals using “pee-can pies”. :o) Oh, and adultery, lol! You couldn’t break up “happily married couples” in parentheses, you know. ;oP
Anyone who can make something as challenging as Algebra II or Calculus fun was someone to admire. I think my most favorite Terri Maddy line was when we were in Calculus and she would say, “I know you all learned this in Algebra II because you had an amazing Algebra II teacher.” :o) What a woman. She taught me what it meant to be a good teacher and I hope I modeled what she taught me.
As for the photo, I’m going to have to give it a good long gander later to see if I can spot you. :o)
Hugs and prayers for those in need.
P.S. Hi Lou! :o)
I think my favourite teacher would have to be Mr. Norman, our Gr. 12 home room and chemistry teacher. I remember almost nothing of the chemistry he taught us, but I certainly remember how he cared about us and how he teased and joked with us while maintaining classroom control and a professional manner. But mostly I remember that he talked me into trying at least one year of university instead of going into nursing. That changed my profession and ultimately who I became. As an aside, I would never have lasted as a nurse with my awful knees.
Oh, I forgot to guess. OK, 2nd from the right, front row?
So, very, adorable!
Hello there and what an adorable baby card you have shared with us this morning….love it!
Favorite teacher would have to be my HS teacher Mrs. Grider, she taught accounting/typing/shorthand and etc….loved all the subjects so that made liking the teacher that much easier.
Guessing….um I think you are the bottom row 3rd student from the left of the picture. Don’t ask me why I say that.
Hey Lou, email me the answer. : )
Thanks Jaydee, I always look forward to reading what is going on in your life and what you have to share with us daily. Have a great day.
I think you on the one that is in the front row, 2nd from the end of the left side.
Cute baby card and great idea about the depth of the carriage.
Favorite teacher? I am like Rach-I had several favorites, but one that comes to my mind is Mrs. Ballard–my HomeEc teacher in middle school. She was so kind and fun to be around. I still make her recipe for chocolate chip cookies! My husband does not like anyone else’s chocolate chip cookies besides mine–so they must be good! Thanks to Mrs. Ballard I love to cook! I believe I passed that love of cooking and being in the kitchen to at least one of my two daughters!
Darling card! I love the bling. What baby wouldn’t like bling.
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Tumbarello. She was my homeroom teacher for 7th or 8th grade. She was a new teacher and always had a smile (well most of the time!) She really cared about everyone an took such pride in your achievements, no matter how small. She was the mother of 2 of the teachers in my husband’s school district. Modesto is small enough that we occasionally would see each other and she never forgot my name.
My guess is that you are the girl sitting next to the teacher on her right side.
So happy summer is finally here, but not happy at the 100 degree temperature yesterday. I just wilted even with the AC going!
Sweet card. Love the heart beneath. My favorite was Mrs. Lamb who taught us 1st year Algebra. I was NEVER good in math but she made things so clear and simple that I got A’s and did not have to take the final test. My self-esteem went from zero to the fourth power and higher. I stayed at her house the night of our 8th grade prom as her daughter was a good friend of mine. Anyone who could get through to me in math had to be a goddess and that was Mrs. Lamb.

TOO Funny Jaydee…..I just got though completing my card for the Paper Players CAS sketch challenge and will be posting it tomorrow – and it’s also one for a baby!!!
LOVE your card. Every time you use that stamp set, I fall in love all over again with it. Very cute and love the CAS look.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Hood – high school. Super nice guy and a great teacher – and he really let me get away with alot of stuff! LOL! He’s still alive (amazing as I always thought he was OLD back then) and is even on Facebook! I’m not a fan of Facebook but I do check in with him ever so often.
Your class picture is great! If I had to just venture a guess, I’d say were the CUTE ONE in the photo!
Have a great day.
Lynn
Ok – here goes for my 2nd attempt at leaving a comment. For some reason, I had trouble getting my comment to post last night.
I love your card – the colors are so perfect for a baby card! I just bought this stamp set myself and haven’t had a chance to get it inked up yet. Soon though! 🙂
My favorite teacher has to be my science teacher in high school who inspired me to break the gender barriers and reach for the stars. Without his relentless teaching style,I don’t think I would have pushed myself as hard as I did in high school and accomplished so much. He really prepared me very well for college as I didn’t have trouble adjusting. Without him, I don’t think I’d be working where I am today.
Hmm – as for the class photo – I think you’re in the first row but I’m unsure it you’re the girl on the very end on the left or the second from the right. Hmm – final answer is the second girl from the right in the front row.
Hi Jaydee and Lou.
Cute, cute card!
My favorite teacher was my 7th grade science teacher, Mrs. Feltner. She had a microscope in her class and we discovered all sorts of things using it! That was also the year of our science fair and she really encouraged us to do our best, stretch, and learn. She made school so much fun! I loved what I learned from her so much that I chose my profession in science (and got to work with a microscope daily).
I think you are the second gal from the right in your school photo. Your knee socks are straight, mary janes on, and your smile is so warm and happy! Hope my guess is correct based on what I just typed. ; )
Thanks for your great questions making us ponder a little bit each week. So much fun!
I think you are on the end of the front row on the left …
Jaydee, I can’t really tell what you look like from your photo, so this is a total guess–2nd from right on the front row.
My favorite teacher in high school was my Spanish teacher; I didn’t want to learn Spanish, but my small high school didn’t have French. He was such an inspiring teacher, thorough, expert, and fun, and I just loved Spanish. So I went to Spain, and became a Spanish teacher myself.
Not really knowing you, I say smak center, third row. At my age, school memories are just that, I just celebrated our 50th class reunion and didn’t recognize a lot of my classmates, they looked old, hehe
Cute card..
My favorite teacher was 6th grade, Mrs. Violet Wichhart. She made our lessons into stories, taught the boys manners, walking a female inside and he near the road, carrying girlfriends books, helping with her coat, pulling out a chair and holding a door for a female. (Don’t see alot of that now!)
Thank you for your daily encouragments and prays and hugs to all. Ruth Ann
I think my most remembered teacher was in 6th grade, Miss LaMoine. Not only did our school system open this New, Modern School that year but I had a young teacher!! I remember 2 things most–she taught me to say “color” instead of “keller” and she introduced us to Spanish–which was totally not done in 6th grade back in the ’60’s!! She was so pretty and she alos got engaged that year also–wow what a difference from all the “old” teachers I was used to!!
Cute card! I would say you are the one in the middle of the first row since you said you were tall! Favorite teacher – well they were so varied. My kindergarten teacher, Miss Hunger had to be one of my favorites. I was the teacher’s pet as she knew me from church and had taught my brother 10 years earlier. I was the one who passed out the crayons and all the good stuff! She rewarded me for being the best “crayon artist” and best jump roper. She gave me a little set of jacks and a ball and told me to play with them alot as they would help my tiny hands with dexterity for the future. She lived to be in her late 90’s and always asked my mom about me some 30-40 years later after I was in her class.
My guess is dead center third row. My favorite teacher would have to be Mrs Fritz, my kindergarten teacher. My mom sent me to school one day early, so I got to be an extra special student since I was the only child there! All threw my school years, she checked in on me and every Sunday at church, she asked how things were going in my life. She was a very special, kind, caring, compassionate lady, and I talked to her every week until she died about 8 years ago. I was in my late 50’s then. How about that for a long term relationship with a teacher?
Very cute card, Jaydee.
This is just a total guess, bottom row, second from the right.
I do believe you are the third one from the left, no? :o)
