Medallion Sunshine and a Blog Question

Hi Everyone.  Happy Thursday.

It's a great day… it's almost Friday!  My hubby has just arrived home and the weather is gorgeous! Oh… and we are ALMOST at the 5,000 comments.  On to my question after the card!

Thank you to all of you who commented on my post last night.  I love hearing from all of you.  It's wonderful that so many of you commented for this first time!  I also have to thank some of my most consistent commenters.  I look back and realize that they have been frequenting my little area of the stamping blogosphere for over a year – in some cases – almost 2!!!!!  So, a huge shout out to Adelle, Missy, Beth, Rach and Ann.  You are some of the wonderful people that actually kept me going in the very early stages of my blogging – and you continue to support me.

So… we are VERY close to the magic number of 5,000.  Not there yet… so, still a few to go.  I can't wait to see who pushes the blog to that 5,000 comment!

On to tonight's card.  I love the Medallion stamp.  It took me forever to buy it, but when I did, I realized how much I enjoyed using it.  I also decided it was time to bring out my favorite color scheme… Yellow, Black and White

Medallionsunshine

Me… I love it :-)!

So… on to tonight's question.   For those of you who saw my link to Rach's post last night….. she posed a question… When did we outgrow the wonderful fun things we did as children???  It really made me think.  In fact, I thought about it several times over the last few days.

So….. My question to you all….. What do you still do today that brought you immense pleasure as a child?  Or what have you done recently that you just couldn't resist doing, but hoping someone wasn't watching in the fear that you might be thought too old to do that?

Me…. I have two things…..

  1. I still get so excited at the first snowfall of the season.  I can usually be guaranteed to rush out side and "taste" the first snowflake!  Mmm… hoping noone is watching!
  2. When I was in Disney world, I saw Tigger on high street.  I shouted – Oh… There's Tigger!  He saw me, came over to me and hugged me.  My response?  I cried!  Yep, I cried big happy tears because Tigger was my favorite character as a child – and I had just been hugged by Tigger!

Anyone want to share?  Doing cartwheels, making snow angels, daisy chains, running in the rain, hopscotch, walking over the cracks in pavements?  Whatever it is, I think it would be fun if you are prepared to share.

Rach was right….. we shouldn't ever feel too old to enjoy those wonderful, often very simple things, that make us glowing and happy – like the little girls we were.

Have a wonderful evening everyone.  Prayers and hugs for those who need a little lift.  As the sentiment on this card says… wishing you all a day filled with sunshine

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. I keep thinking that song from years ago that went, “I didn’t want to do it…” and you made me post again. 🙂 I love this card – and I keep thinking how beautiful it would be with the new Sunf***** stamp (it is secret until the new beautiful catalogs come out July 1!)

  2. Thanks for another great card!
Tonight I enjoyed a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream. Yummy!

  3. You’ve inspired me to get out my Medallion stamp and ink it up! One thing from childhood that I enjoy is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on good old white bread… I love the smell and the taste… reminds me of being a kid!

  4. One thing I refuse to give up is my love of yellow. even though most “grown-ups” disparage it; perfect with the sophisticated addition of black and white in your card! I also still love to step on crunchy dry leaves on the sidewalk. I’ll walk out of my way to walk on one just to feel and hear the satisfying crackle.

  5. As a child I was dressed in red a lot and it is still one of my favorite colors. I got to choose the color of our new car several yeaers ago and I chose red even though one of my daughters said I was too old for a red car! Red makes me happy.

  6. Beautiful card – so bright and cheery. I still love wild violets. I used to pick bouquets of them for my Mom. They are one of the first bits of color here in Illinois and even though they are wild I let them grow all over the garden and yard. Crayons – love the smell of a new box of crayons. I always loved coloring and still do to this day. And one last thing – cinnamon rolls. My grandmother (we lived with her) used to bake them – the best ones – and I have carried on that tradition.

  7. Ahhhhhhh. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of my heart singing because you have once again used my favorite color combo and on of my favorite stamps and created this gorgeous piece. Oh how I love it! :o) (I LOVE that sentiment and need to try to locate it.)
I think I’m blessed in the child-like department. It’s easier to do those things when you have small children–heck, they encourage it. Lil and I frequently avoid stepping on cracks. We have snowball fights. We watercolor together. I LOVE to color–in a coloring book with crayons no less! I did a headstand the other day (you remember, right?) just to show Lil I could. I have sat in fields and made clover chains with my students. Ahhh, and there is so much more! Maybe I haven’t lost my joy in those innocent actions. :o) Thanks for making me stop to give it some thought!
I know my dad NEVER grew up. I could count on him to boogie down the aisles of the grocery singing “Bear Necessities” from “The Jungle Book”, and he was always up for a good water fight. ;o) I think I must get it from him. :oP
I can’t wait to read what others have to say!
Oh, and Jaydee, thanks for making this a place where I *WANT* to comment. :o)
    Hugs to all!
    P.S. Hi Lou! :o)

  8. Now I remember why you inpisred me to buy the medallion stamp! It is so versatile. I love the color compbo on this. Thanks for the shout out too! I view your email/blog as “dessert” when I am going thru my emails. I save it till the last sometimes and other times I cannot wait to read it and do it first. No calories either-haha!
What do I love to do that I did when I was a child? I love to sing while doing things around the house, drink frosty root beer from a mug at the local 50’s root beer place, (now I have to think a bit…) You know, I think I have always loved to play around with paper and glue and cutting things out and making a scrapbook–so that is pretty much what cardmaking is like! Oh I love eating cut out sugar cookies from the recipe that is older than me. This question will be on my mind today and maybe I will just have to go blow some bubbles with a straw in my milk today…

  9. Beautiful card, I mean really beautiful card. Diff going to case this one and you got me to purchase the stamp : ) it didn’t take long after a few post of cards with the stamp and I was hooked. I think the embossing powder one done it.
What do I do that I done as a child (well did I grow up yet?) hehehe! I love swimming and that was one of my past times as a child, going to the town pool. Now I get to swim in my own. Of course I get to play with inks, paper, scissors, markers . . .lol Never to old to do that.
I agree Veda, the new Sunf***** stamp is going to hit the spot with a lot of us. I checked that stamp out and instantly thought of Jaydee’s cards.
Thanks for sharing with us and have a terrific weekend!
We have family reunion here at the house, so busy week we have had and also a busy weekend as well, but loving the life that I have been handed and wouldn’t change a thing (well wait a minute, maybe have more stamping items) hahaha! : ) luv ya!

  10. Hi Jaydee! I love this card, so bright and cheery! I have to say that since discovering your blog, I’ve discovered how much I really do love the color yellow. : ) It was never a color that excited me all that much. I’m a red and green girl. However, I find I’m reaching for it with my cardmaking now and realizing how I react to it in my daily life. So cool that you can find a new color that excites you when your in your 40’s!
Okay, now on to your question. I agree with Rach that it is easier to do kid things when you have small children. But unlike her and her dad being silly, I’m the more serious type. I still like riding my bike and I’m usually walking my dogs while my kids ride so that is a real treat for me. My soon to be 2nd grader likes to roller skate, so going to our local rink and skating takes me back to childhood and happy times. And lastly, I too liked to color and will grab some crayons and color with my kids. But I find I really like to play with the SU! watercolor wonder crayons on my cards too. I guess that is the grown up version! Such a great question to ponder Jaydee. Thanks for making me think about it a bit. Hope everyone has some sunshine today!

  11. WOW! What a stunning card. LOVE that black and yellow together and that wide ribbon is just fabulous on it. So very pretty.
Your question: A couple of years ago (before I retired) we were all leaving work one day and started talking about getting older and not being able to do what we used to do, etc…I told everyone that I could still do a handstand up against the wall! (I used to do them ALL the time when I was young.) One thing led to another and on a dare, I decided to show them I could still do it!! OMG! I did it!!! The next day I couldn’t even move!!! Thought I’d died! It’s amazing how the mind says you can do things but the body just doesn’t want to do them anymore! LOL!
    Have a great day.

  12. What a fun Friday this is turning out to be! A beautiful bright and sunny card and lots of childhood pleasures. I, of course, have not grown up which is why I love being a child care provider 🙂 Just this week I was jumping in puddles with my kiddles. And even though I grew up on a dairy farm (and thought that city kids that did this were sooo dumb) I just can’t resist mooing at cattle when driving, riding or running past them. Please don’t tell my siblings; they’d never let me live that one down!
Have a happy Friday One and All. Warm thoughts and prayers to those in need.

  13. Love the cheerful sunny card. As a child I was w-a-a-a-y too serious (I’ve had to spend my adult life growing down)but, like you, I always get excited at the first snow and rush out to enjoy it. I have to tone that down a lot there is a lot of winter here and almost no one welcomes it. Also love words and stories and general silliness. Love hanging out with children who help make play acceptable.

  14. I’ve been reading your blog for awhile now and should’ve commented before this. You make lovely cards and this cheery one is no exception. It’s a wonderful color scheme. I loved to read as a child and still do. And, my mother remains one of my favorite people to spend time with!

  15. Jeepers, I think I still act like a kid a lot! Esp when I’m around my granddaughters! The older ones are almost-2 and just-turned 3. We sing and dance and I make up songs. I also LOVED going to the library as a child, and checking out a ton of books – way more than I could read in the alotted time period, of course! And I did that just today – I could hardly carry my bag of books! And tonight I plan to stamp, and read, and eat the fresh strawberries we got at the farmer’s market! We got 8 quarts, so I’ll be making Freezer Jam tomorrow too!!
    Hugs to you all!

  16. Great card! Fresh looking & makes a statement at the same time. Me? Still love “penny candy” & popsicles & “paint by number” sets. Due to that skill, am able to cross over these past several years to rubber stamping! Fed peanuts to squirrels as a child & still do. Still wear shoes with clipped on bows. Love to read. First hard cover book was “Nancy Drew” in 4th grade, to this day I love mysteries. The list could go on because I’ve not grown up yet! Love your site. It’s total lovage!

  17. What a fabulous card, I love yellow and black tog. Well, as a child we spent one day a week at the beach with the whole neighborhood and I still enjoy the beach and swimming. On New Years Eve I still take an old pot and spoon, open the back door, and bang like crazy to welcome the New Year. I am retired and when my husband and I bought bikes a few years ago, I thought my children would flip, watching us actually able to ride a bike, what a surprise to them. Kids don’t think their parents can do things like that. haha Thanks for all the cards, info. and inspiration you give.

  18. FIRST….LOVE,Love, love the card! i like that color combo also.
kids stuff I still do, or did until I became disabled in 2005:
Cartwheels, running cartwheels, played kickball(if there were still kids around, I could still be pitcher, and kicker but no running) I LOVE the snow also, i love to make snowmen, snowangels (can’t now, as I can’t get up, LOL) snowballs, taste the flakes, take photos.
stamping and “coloring” is like coloring as a kid
I still enjoy reading, bowling(seldom get to do it)
Hiking, camping, canoing…no hiking now…camping would be ok in a cabin or a RV, not sure about Canoing…I would need help getting in and out
    eating VERY OCCASIONALLY–cotton candy
board games if I can find someone to play with.
Thanks for that motivating question, LOL!

  19. Hi Jaydee, Love the colour of your card, and the black and white ribbon sets it off beautifully.
I have also played catch up reading your Blog and looking at your beautiful cards. Oh me oh my, Bailey is the cleverest cat! To me, cats are a lot lot smarter than a lot of people think!
We had a pastry shop when I was a child and we also sold milkshakes, chocolate was my favourite, to this day when I have a milkshake or even a cappuccino I pick up a teaspoon and “spoon” off the froth and put it in my mouth! I guess I have had some looks when I do this at a shopping mall!!
Another memory is smelling roses, I still stop by gardens with roses today and sniff them and see which one has the nicest smell, I still sniff my roses even though I know which one has the strongest or sweetest perfume!

  20. Jaydee – this is stunning! I love the vibrant colors, the striped ribbon secured with the bow. Like you, i have been going back and forth about the medallion stamp but I may order it now. It truly adds that “WOW” factor instantly and without fuss.
I still feel like a kid at heart as I love to skip along like I don’t have a care in the world.
