Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday night.
I hope you are all enjoying this fabulous long weekend.
The challenge across at the Paper Players this week
For my card, I decided to share a card made using the CRACKED GLASS TECHNIQUE. I don't use this technique often, but sometimes, it just feels right.
My regular blog readers will know by now that I am in love with The Open Sea. The fabulous set from the current summer mini. I chose this stamp and the cracked glass technique, because I wanted the focal image to feel – and look – as though it was an old painting mounted on the wall of an old English Gentleman's Club. I think I achieved that look.
I began by sponging the top and bottom half of the card. The top half is Bashful Blue and Baja Breeze. The bottom half is Not Quite Navy.
I then inked the image using Basic Black marker for the ship and Night of Navy for the part of the sea that is on the stamp. I stamped the image over the sponging. I then took my Night of Navy marker – the fine end – and created waves. If you look closely, you can see the area that was inked from the stamp, the rest was created with my marker. I was really very pleased with how it turned out!
I then followed the instructions on the great tutorial from Beate – you can find it here. I then stamped the sentiment from the On the Grow set onto a piece of card stock and attached it using two metal brads. The background DSP really gives the feel of wallpaper.
Card recipe – all ingredients Stampin' Up!
- Card stock: Night of Navy, Basic Black, Whisper White
- Stamps: Focal image: The Open Sea. Sentiment: On the Grow
- DSP: Nautical Expedition
- Inks: Sponging: Baja Breeze, Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy. Basic Black and Night of Navy Markers. Classic Basic Black for the sentiment
- Tools: Thick Clear Embossing Powder; metallic brads stampin dimensionals
NOW – it's over to you. We hope that you will join our challenge this week. Don't forget to pop along to THEPAPERPLAYERS and check out the fabulous cards from the talented design team, and check out the submissions from our players.
On a personal note:
Lizzie – one of our regular blog family members – is celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary this summer and is looking for your help. She is desperately trying to find someone who owns an older Stampin' Up! punch called DECO CORNER PUNCH. If you have one that you would be happy to part with – or know someone that does – please could you send me an email at [email protected] and let me know what you would be willing to part with it for. Lizzie would really like to use this retired punch to create the invites to her anniversary party. I'm hoping that one of you might be able to help Lizzie celebrate this momentous occasion.
Lou and I spent time on our deck today. In fact, it took two hours to have breakfast. We really didn't want to leave it. A quick trip to the Farmer's Market this morning (where we were presented with the first tomatoes of the season by our wonderful Amish farmer, William. I was overjoyed that he had saved his first three tomatoes for us. In a couple of weeks he promises that he will have his first heirlooms. You really can't believe how excited I was! Fresh Kale, Swiss Chard, wild Arugula, fresh Asparagus, Leeks, Spinach, Cucumbers and various Lettuces were our finds for today.
I plan to make Cucumber soup tomorrow on our new range and to try out some new recipes from my Yotam Ottolenghi book Plenty. I will let you know how that goes!
Continued prayers for those affected by the storms. As Linda pointed out in her comments on my blog post yesterday, Canada, too has seen flooding. We had floods a couple of years ago that wiped out farmer's crops and ruined their farmland. The effects of which they would feel for many years. For others, it is the loss of their homes and in the worst of cases, their lives. What worries me is that we are still in the early part of the season. Bad storms and tornadoes were forecast north of us last night and more storms are on the way.
I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and fun filled Sunday. I will be back on Monday with a new post.
As always, thank you so much for your visit. You know that I appreciate your visit – and your comments.
Hugs
Jaydee

Oh, Jaydee, this is wonderful. You absolutely achieved the look of an old painting in an old gentlemen’s club. I’ve fallen in love with this set due to all the fantabulous cards you’ve been creating using it. I especially love this one. I don’t see nearly enough of the cracked glass technique, and this one is done so beautifully.
What a wonderful day you and Lou had! The FM and time on the deck. It sounds lovely. :o) We had rain and high humidity. Ick.
Yes, prayers for all those who continue to be affected by the horrendous weather.
