Hi Everyone. Happy Thursday.
Tomorrow is Friday… Oh! YAY!
Tonight I have a card I was inspired to create from the one across at cleanandsimplestamping this week. I loved the bright and happy feel of the card. I was really tempted to do this with something other than flowers…but… I really felt in a spring mood, so flowers it was. I then realized that I didn't have an SU set that would work, so pulled out one of my few non-SU sets for this.
The thing I love about the SU colors, is that you can mix and match them and they work so well together. I think the colors on this card work fabulously.
The sentiment on this card to is for those of you who have shared your bird stories with me over the last couple of days. Lynn, I do hope those hummers are coming my way. You are amazing to refill your feeders 3 times a day. Poor little things, they sure need the energy and it's wonderful that people like you make sure they are getting their energy. I would love to see so many of them together.
Mary…. oh, I am so jealous. Sandhill cranes, seriously! I have only ever seen them twice. Wow…….. that is very special.
Now… two pieces of news I discovered today… one made me smile and one made me very sad. I was so tempted to lead with the sad and finish the post with the happy… but… the sad one deserves to be highlighted and I think I should finish with it. So, here's the happy one first.
Don't you just love this? Princess William, aka the Duchess of Cambridge, aka Kate – goes down the aisle again a week after her last trip… this one… however… was slightly different! Kate's second trip down the aisle.
Then… the passing of an era. So many of us alive today owe our lives and our lifestyles to those who served during "the War to end all Wars". The fighting the likes of which are not likely to ever be seen again. Millions of casualties occured on both sides of the conflict. A war that resulted in many border changes, the creation of new countries, drastically changed economies, massive changes to social structure and culture. A war that so few people remember. A war fought primarily by young men – including both my grandfathers. A war that saw so many families lose their only sons. A war that changed millions of lives, family structures and, indeed, generations.
Today, a piece appeared very quietly across on BBC. A piece that didn't make front page news. A piece that was designated to what is essentially page 3. So many stories made front page news… many I don't care about. It saddened me that this story had not been given the coverage it deserved. Today saw the passing of the last known living soldier who fought in World War 1. If you want, you can read the story on bbc at this post.
I dedicate this post to all those men – and women – who served in the war to end all wars. I thank them for their service – and their sacrifice and I quietly salute the passing of their remaining soldier.
When you go home,
Tell them of us and say,
For their tomorrow,
We gave them our today.

Good morning! Hey the sun is shining in Ohio and that is a good thing, but not for long. Going to start raining again! Phew!
I love the card Jaydee, so cute and simple.
As for the hummers, I too have to fill my feeders everyday for all the parents and young ones. It is so cute to watch them when they first start coming around. They will come to our bedroom window (cause that was the first feeder that I put up about 15 years ago) and they let me know they are here to eat. So then I drag the feeders out. I put up 3 of them and they are large feeders…bought a new one few weeks ago. It looks like a hotel and is tripled layers and is a revolving restaurant for them : )
Thanks for sharing the good and sad news with us. Have a great weekend.
Such a sweet clean and simple card, Jaydee! I love the sweep of flowers. Thanks for sharing the happy and sad articles. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Kate. What a beauty, who seems to be a genuine person!
Thank you for remembering the last WWI soldier in your blog…too many people today overlook such items. In hearing of this news, I took a moment to remember my grandfather who fought in that war, and wished I had asked him about his experiences before he passed away. Love your fresh and clean card!
