Hi Everyone. Hope you are having a good week so far. Lots for you in today's post. A card. A video tutorial – coloring with Copic markers 101 – and exciting news on saving 20% from Stampin' Up.
Let's start with the card
I was inspired by both a case from casestudy challenge and a photo challenge – love that big bow.
Then, I saw this color scheme from justusgirls and decided to combine them. There are some amazing cards on both sites, so you really should pop along, as I know you will find inspiration there.
I love black, very vanilla and crumb cake together – never used them together – but love them!
So, here's what I came up with – and I must admit… I like it… sorry about the pearls and ribbon…. but the inspiration challenge made me do it… really…. seriously 🙂
Card recipe:
- Card stock: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake
- Stamp set: Because I Care, Occasional Quotes
- Accessories: Black grosgrain ribbon, Basic Pearls
- Inks: Crumb Cake, Basic Black
- Tools: Color Spritzer (thanks, Ann!), paper snips, stampin dimensionals
Technique Tuesday: Coloring with Copics 101
Most of the time I use my Stampin' Up! classic inks or markers for coloring. Occasionally, I do use my Copic markers and many of you have been asking me how I use them. My last coloring video was using my Stampin' Write inks and blender pens. I've used the same image that I did for that video for this basic coloring with copics video.
Why do I use both? Well, at first it was because everyone was raving about Copics and I had to give them a try. I love using Copics. HOWEVER, I don't always prefer them. Copics are great if perfection is what you are aiming at – and you take the time to learn how to shade and blend, etc. For me…. it isn't always what I am looking for. Also, Copics are very intense and sometimes, I don't want that. It's all about preference. Also, you cannot use your Copics on your stamps the way you can with your markers. The Stampin' Write markers are so useful for images where you want to use different colors on a stamp. I love them for that. If you do try Copics, you need more than one color in the same range – a minimum of 2-3 – as that is the way that you work with the blending and shading. If you don't want all that blending and shading, then Copics are overkill. You may as well really stick with your markers or using your inks. It's horses for courses – and most time my course is with my Stampin' Write markers (BTW If you are an SU demo, I am sure you get asked this question often by clients, it's good to understand about Copics so that you can answer the question. :-)….)

Lou is still away. He spent the weekend with his family in Australia and is now back in Singapore. He's complaining bitterly about the warm and humid weather. So, I guess he is going to enjoy coming home to the much cooler weather. In fact, it was 64 degrees in the house this morning and I put the fire on for the first time this season. Brenda, I thought about you!
I'm going to try to make a card tonight… I feel the need… we will see how it goes, as I have to go make dinner and feed the kitty cats before they call the SPCA!

Thank you SO much for the video! I’ve been intrigued by copics but afraid to purchase them because I didn’t know how to work with them. As pricey as they are, that would not have been a good investment.
Lily watched the video utterly enchanted and said in a voice of awe and wonder, “Wow…that is so BEAUTIFUL. She did an excellent job.” So, there you have it. High praise indeed from a four year old. ;o)
Why appologize for the ribbon and pearls? They make the card a Jaydee creation. Without them it would be a card that I or anyone else could have made. (Ok, that is wishful thinking on my part!)
The video was wonderful; the copics are fantastic with their blendability and being able to move an oops is amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to put these videos together for us.

I really like this stamp set and how you added those pearls. They certainly take it up a notch. The card can be casual without the pearls and with them, it is more elegant.
I was able to watch the video showing how to color using the copic markers. OMG, and all these times, I keep thinking how in the world did she color those images that look so vivid and “blended” perfectly. Now I know. You use more than just a “few” markers 🙂 more like “many, many”. That’s why I could not (and still cannot) color my images to look like yours. The question is, how would you pick which color to blend? I guess from experience, perhaps? I really like the angelic joy stamp set, especially the ones you created. I have not seen anyone who color the angel as beautiful as yours. Thank you so much for showing us the video. I am looking forward to more videos next week. Hugs.
