The Haunted House

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday night.  I hope you all had a great start to the weekend.

Quick commercial break for Tuesday morning:  I noticed that there is a clearance blitz across at Stampin' Up!  Amazing bargains to be had.  The UK has just gone to their new catty, so I am assuming that these are left overs from there.  I just went and bought some Riding Hood Red Ribbon and all sorts of other great goodies.  Just wanted you to know.

Tonight's card is for the Cards magazine blog challenge. (I actually took out an online subscription just two weeks ago to Cards.  I recently discovered it and getting the issues on-line is a great way to get the inspiration, save posting and paper – and money!  If you haven't checked out the challenges, you should.  Here's the link It was a theme challenge – Halloween.  Of course, I couldn't resist!  It gave me a great opportunity to use my new set, along with the great new Wicked Fun Specialty DSP.  It also gave me an opportunity to pull out my embossing powder and White Uniball pen!

Cardmagazine halloween

As you can see, I had great fun sponging the background, coloring in all the nooks and crannies and trying to make sure that there was a glow of white/gray around the butterball moon.  We saw one a couple of weeks ago…. it was perfect, with some whisps of gray cloud.  So, I decided it was just right for tonight's card.

I used the Uniball pen on the gravestones and to cast a white shadow on two of the downstairs windows.

You will notice, too, that I used different colors on the open door.  A darker color around the back of the door and lighter where the door is open.  You will notice, too, that the color of the windows gets darker as you move around the house!

Anyway, I had great fun creating this card, but seriously, I didn't have a plan when I went in to creating it.  I didn't have a sketch… consequently, it took me longer to make this card that it did Noah to make the ark!

Talking about the ark.  We have a Lutheran church in town – it's on our way to the Farmer's Market.  They are very creative in terms of their advertising on the electronic billboard.  As you may remember me telling you, we have had massive flooding, incredible rains – just dreadful.  Well, in the midst of this, they changed the message on the board to read "God, materials to make ark ready.  Is there a carpenter in the house?"  I thought that was pretty cool.   Anyway, I digress.

Card recipe:

  • Card stock:  Cajun Craze, Basic Black, Basic Gray, Whisper White
  • Inks: Versamark, Basic Black, Night of Navy, Basic Gray, Basic Black, Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, Uniball white, yellow copics
  • Stamps:  Haunted House
  • DSP:  Wicked Fun
  • Tools:  Nestabilities dies (deckled edge), embossing powder, heat gun, embossing buddy, distressing tools, Decorative Label punch (modified to be smaller).  My color spritzer was used to put little spots of ink on the sentiment label.  Thanks, Ann for enabling me on this tool!

On a personal note:   Well, I felt like Brenda this morning.  I was freezing.  I was on a conference call and my teeth were chattering!  Then, this afternoon I was really hot!  I think its the weather – and not my age!

I didn't get to do any stamping tonight at all.  I worked from 7 this morning and only finished at 7.30 tonight.  So, it was a long day and I was just too tired to do anything.  So, I admired the couple of cards I did manage to make this weekend.

Remember… tomorrow is Technique Tuesday.  The video for tomorrow is using nestabilities with your big shot!

Talking of what is coming up….. the Feel Good Friday story this week is from Cherie.    Don't forget to check out some of my sightings on World Wide Web Wednesday.

Prayers tonight for Germaine, T, Pri, John & Sue, Missy.  For Lesley, Rach, Adelle and their furbabies.  And I'm adding Leslie to our prayer list tonight.  Leslie is a lifelong friend of Janna's and this is Leslie's story.  You can check the story on October 1st to see the tragedy that befell Leslie and the other posts to see what an amazing young woman she is.  Janna asked me to add Leslie to our prayer list, because she knows what a strong group you all are.

As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  You know your visits are much appreciated.

Don't forget… smile at a stranger – it could change their life.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. Love this card Jaydee, it’s very fun! Thank you for adding Leslie to the prayer list, she needs every prayer warrior in the world right now! Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday, I can’t wait to watch your video Jaydee!

  2. I am not much of Halloween cards because I like “happy” cards. Reading through what you did, it was a very detailed card attempting to create the different colors throughout. I like the nestabilities and am looking forward to the video on Tuesday.
My heart goes out Leslie and her family. What a sad situation for her and Mark and their family. I hope Leslie recover soon. I will be thinking of her.

  3. I love this set-always have the deckled nesties are great! Your card is so fitting for the season!
I will keep Leslie in my thoughts and prayers. It is a reminder of how fragile life really is. Pregnancy is supposed to be uncomplicated and joyous. What a sad situation.
Looking forward to your video tomorrow. I hope you can inspire me to use the Nestabilities I have. They just seem so complicated to set up and use. I am dreaming of a day when I have a Big Shot instead of a short Cuttlebug! Don’t work too hard!

  4. You are such an inspiration. Thank you for always sending a smile to my inbox. Thanks for connecting us to each other and to people like Leslie. We are praying for her and those who love her.
    Your freezing friend,

I’m sorry I’ve been AWOL, we’ve been traveling and I’ve been trying to get my life back in it’s normal routine…we’re still working on that one. ;o)
My heart breaks for Leslie and her family. What a nightmare for everyone. My prayers for them. Thank you for letting us know.

  6. You know…I never think of Halloween cards as being beautiful, gorgeous..all of that. I always think of them just being cute. Well, Jaydee, you proved my thinking wrong! This is just GORGEOUS!!!! Love all the details you put into it. So pretty.

  7. Fabulous, Jaydee! This is my son’s favorite Halloween set and you have inspired me to get his card created! Love the background paper and how you lit up the windows!

  8. I will be praying for Leslie and her family. What a sad story, but the uplifting part is that they believe in prayer and it was awesome to read about folks circling the hospital praying! Gave me chills!
I will be looking forward to the Nesties video!
Cool card today with awesome details!
