Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday night.
I'm so sorry I didn't get to post last night. This week has been crazy and then yesterday we were hit with yet another round of storms. In fact two wild storms yesterday. Tornado touch downs in several areas around us without warning. That's when you realize that technology can only take you so far. Even with phenomenal radar coverage, it was the spotters on the ground that saw the tornadoes and sent out the warnings. So many trees down from the 60-70 mph winds and we had almost 3 inches of rain in an hour yesterday. It was a wild afternoon and what with work and everything else, I just wasn't able to post last night.
Tonight's card using the level 2 hostess set APPLE BLOSSOMS is for a fabulous new challenge site I found it's called photo-synthesis. You really should go check it out. The challenge this week is to create a black and white card with yellow. Mmmm…. a really interesting color combination and there are several ways you can go with it. Really strong and graphic (except I didn't have the right stamp to do that!), or a little more muted – or very muted. I chose the middle route. It was a great excuse for me to pull out the new Stampin' Up DSP packs. I love the newly configured papers and the patterns on them. This one is poetry, so how perfect to fit the title of this post? (With apologies to Shakespeare!)
I created this card two ways….. and your opinion on which one works would be appreciated. I started off creating the one without the popped image – and then thought… mmmm.. I think a little depth would help make this look better. So, here's the popped one
and here's the same card photographed earlier in the day – without the popped images
So, what do you think? To pop, or not to pop?
Card recipe: (all materials Stampin' Up! unless noted)
- Card stock: Basic Black, Whisper White
- Inks: Daffodil Delight
- Stamps: Apple Blossoms
- Accessories: Daffodil Delight Satin Ribbon, half pearls (non-SU)
- DSP: Neutrals Patterns Designer Series Paper
- Tools: Paper Snips, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Stampin' Dimensionals
Card instructions:
- Cut Basic Black card stock to A2 – 4 1/4 x 11 – scored and folded at 5 1/2 with the fold on the top
- Cut DSP to 4 x 5 1/4 and adhere to card base
- Cut Basic Black layer to 3 1/4 x 3 3/4. The Daffodil Delight layer to 3 5/8 x 3 1/8. Adhere two layers together using snail.
- Ink the image and stamp 3 times using your Stamp-a-ma-jig – starting from the right side, to leave space for the ribbon on the left.
- If you like the popped version – then stamp the image three more times on scrap paper and cut out using your snips.
- Adhere the Whisper White layer ( cut to 1/8 smaller than the Daffodil Delight/Basic Black layers. If you are using the popped images – adhere these over the stamped layer using Stampin' Dimensionals.
- Wrap ribbon around and tie into a knot.
- Adhere the focal image to the base card using dimensionals.
- Adhere pearls to tops of the flowers.
I don't know about you but this reminds me of sweetcorn. Considering we live in the middle of the corn growing region of the country – I thought it was pretty appropriate 🙂
On a personal note: I did get some time in my stamping space today. Which is always a great day and I made a couple of cards that I really like! Which is always a good thing!
Charlie, our rescue – is still living in the garage and laundry room. He's finally starting to come out of his shell. It's taken a week for him to realize that food is going to be delivered regularly, so now the little bugger is getting fussy about his food :-) He has also, thankfully, started to behave like a kitten and is starting to respond to playtime. When he first arrived, he really couldn't be coaxed into playing and completely ignored the catnip. I went into the garage this morning to find him rolling around on the floor licking the catnip bag. The look he gave me, reminded me of a child who had raided the cookie jar and gotten caught! He really is adorable.
Some of you have written to me asking why we don't keep Charlie and wondering why we are trying to find a home for him. Well…… we already have 4 rescues and a couple of cats on top of that. So, permanently adopting another rescue would be pretty tough. It's especially tough on my old man. Who, in human terms, is almost 90. We've had him for 16 years and a young kitten would be pretty tough on him. Also… we have a female who is already overpowered by all the males in the house…. so… that's the story of why we aren't intending to keep Charlie.
Don't forget – tomorrow is the Paper Players challenge. Lesley has a great sketch challenge lined up for you. I really enjoyed playing around with it. So, don't forget to check thepaperplayers challenge site tomorrow for details and to see the inspiration cards. I loved the cards that were submitted for LeAnne's color challenge this week. If you haven't popped along to see the cards, you really should. Here's the link paperplayers.
Prayers tonight for Trish, Germaine, Arthur, T, Pri, Angela, Hugo, Sue and John.
Have a fabulous Saturday night everyone. As always, thank you for stopping by my area of the stamping blogosphere. Your visits, your support and your comments are much appreciated.
Hugs
Jaydee

Oh gee, I like both of them. I do like the dimension that popping them up gives, though.
Both are very pretty but I think I like the popped out one the best. 🙂 Glad you made it thru the storms—tornadoes are scarey things. 🙂 You did a wonderful job with the Photo-Synthesis Challenge. Come play with us again soon. 🙂
I like both of them, but you know me…why make it simple when you can paper snip something out and pop it up! So, I am really partial to the popped up one! We have had hideous storms here in Iowa, and in fact we were without electricity this morning, so I can empathize with you about the weather!
First off I know what you mean about the storms…about two weeks ago we had 3 straight days of them and they were horrendous. Tornado’s touching down all over, flooding that still has not receded, cars, trucks and semi-trailer trucks stuck in water. The worst part of it all was that a whole neighborhood next to ours was flood out. Peoples houses with water half way up the first floor, everything damaged and having to be thrown out. The streets look pitiful with furniture in great condition lining them. Oh, these poor people. They were supposed to be declared eligible for emergency funding from FEMA, but the Governor decided that there was not enough damage. what! Huh? Duh? Well of course, it wasn’t HIS property that is in a shambles. We has houses completely lifted off their foundations, and that is not enough to declare an Emergency Situation? Go Figure? We still see pictures of these houses and the water in the basements and mud and sewage that they are trying to get out. It is going to take a long, long time to recover from those storms. I am so very glad that you are safe so far. I Prayed for you when I saw on the news that you were having bad, bad weather. We, too were extremely lucky not to have any damage from water and never lost power. It was scary though, I kept listening for that “train” sound that they say you always hear before a Tornado, of course, they would always hit at night, and Mr. Bob would sleep right through them.
On to your Cards…both equally as Wonderful as the other. I still can’t decide if I want this set or not, I wonder why that is? I love the colors white, yellow and black. I think they look so clean together and are such happy colors together. I pretty much like white, black and any color, I also like white, yellow and any color. So there you have it! Now to Pop or not to Pop that is the question…I really do like the Popped Up one much better. Why, well because I think more light shines through the card, being popped up, thus making it a brighter card. There is nothing wrong with the other card, it just seems a little plain to me. Now if I hadn’t seen the Popped Up one, I might have a different opinion. I just love that DSP, and now that I have seen it, you have enabled me once again that I need to have it! I love the way you tied your ribbon, wish I were that good at it. The pearls are the perfect color and really add something to the top of the flowers, cornstalks? hee, hee. You must have stock in some Pearl Company.
So sorry I haven’t been around lately, now I have rotator injuries in both of my shoulders, and my fingers are pretty much numb. So it is hard to type first of all, and second of all I don’t really know what keys I am hitting. The Doc. tells me it is the Chemo, that it is affecting all of my joints and nerves. Wow, how cool is that to have to deal with? Just dump some more sh_t on me why don’t you. hee, hee.
My Thoughts and Wishes are always with those who need them and I Pray for Everyone everyday. You are all my Strength and part of my reason to keep going with This. I think of You when I am in my Chemo Chair. Thanks for all of your Prayers and Well Wishes, I do appreciate and feel them.
Cyber hugs to you Jaydee, Trish in Wisconsin
Hi Jaydee! Sorry to hear about the storms you guys are or have been going through! It wasn’t long ago when Tennessee had flooding! Folks are still trying to get through that! So, I hope everyone is ok!
As for my fave on the 2 cards-I think I like the popped up card the best! However, both are pretty! Love those colors together!
Trish- glad to see you commenting! I continue to pray for you everyday! You continue to be my HERO! I can’t imagine what you are going through right now but I hope you know that you have a lot of friends that are thinking of you & praying for you!
Germaine- hope you are doing ok! I continue to pray for you as well! I believe in prayer! I think it is a form of medicine and it can cure anything!
I pray for all my cyber friends and hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead!
I like them both-but I think that the popped one has that something extra special about it!
How scary! I have never seen or been near a tornado. I can only imagine. We only have earthquakes!!!!! Your story makes me feel bad since we are having the most beautiful summer of my entire life. The temperatures have been in the 80’s. I feel like I am living near the coast without the fog. Our whole summer has only had 4 days above 100 and then it was only 103. I can feel your pain when the temperatures are high.
I love this card. I like the one that is popped out. The photo looks almost blue. I think it would be fun to try it out in another color. Unfortunately I have not spent enough money to buy this set! Maybe later. Stay safe.
Pretty both ways, but I prefer the popped images. They just stand out so much better from the dark background. Be safe in the storms! The weather is crazy everywhere this summer.
Oh my…..I like both of them – but guess if I have to pick one it’d be the one that’s “popped”. I like the dimension on that! And yes, it looks like corn! So cute.
Lynn
very pretty! Love the daffodil yellow. If I have to choose between popped up and flat – I think the popped-up looks a tad better.
I with everyone else, the popped one. I stamped one is lovely and anyone would be happy to get it!
When I saw the first, I really loved it, I love some pop on my cards too 🙂 But then I saw the second card, and it is really beautiful too. I would be happy with either. Thanks so much for playing with us at the Photo-Synthesis Challenge.
I like the putzy one best. It’s so Jaydee. We were in Northern WI for the storms and saw some beautiful cloud formations and a gorgeous full, double rainbow.
Arthur finally got word about his procedure. They have made an appointment to discuss his options in the middle of September. The doctor he saw when we were visiting recommended he have an angioplasty and thought it would be scheduled within 6 weeks. We aren’t sure why they are scheduling another consultation and why they are waiting so long. Prayers that he stays well until it finally is taken care of and he is feeling better.
I really like both … but I think I would choose the popped version. This is a beautiful card all around and your paper choice is great.
Laurie
Such a lovely card!! I think I liked the popped up version better for the little added dimension it gives the card. Thanks for joining us at Photo-Synthesis!!
Both are great cards and perfect fits to the PhotoSynthesis challenge. I think the ‘popped’ version is my favorite. It brings the image up to the same level as the yummy ribbon and more of the focal point. I’m so glad you played with us so I could see your creation!
Hi Jaydee–They both turned out fantastic… although as far as I’m concerned, you can almost never over-do it with pop dots 🙂
Or Dippin Dots. Well, maybe with dippin dots. But still….
Thank you so much for playing along with us at Photo-Synthesis this week. I’m so glad you felt inspired to go a route a little different from everyone else. That is the real spirit of the challenge–to use anything from the photo that inspires you, not just the colors.
Hope to see you again at PSC!
Have a great day!
