Paper Players Challenge: Wish for Peace

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

Lesley gave us a fabulous sketch challenge to play with this week.
Sketch3
I really enjoyed playing with it.  When I went to upload my pic to the challenge blog today I noticed one strange thing….. every single one of us has done a Christmas card.  How amazing is that.  None of us tell the other what we are planning – but we were all channeling each other obviously!  I thought it was really funny!  So… if you are looking at thepaperplayers challenge site – this is not a Christmas card challenge – it's a fabulous sketch challenge courtesy of Lesley.  Here's the sketch.  If you don't feel like inserting a circular image – feel free to substitute it for any shape.

Don't forget to join us at thepaperplayers this week – we would love to have you play along.  Here's what the other DT members have created for you:

I was inspired to create a vintage Christmas card.  I've really been drawn to doing some Christmas cards this year that reflect my youth.  This Wish for Peace set embodies a lot of those aspects.  Especially when you combine it with some Shimmer Paint to create the snow and a little golden smooch to give light to the background.

The only thing that is missing – a little glitter.  Cards of "my generatIon" growing up had lots of lovely glitter on them.  BUT… as this is going to the troops as part of our Operation Write Home card drive, I refrained from adding the glitter.

Card recipe:

  • Card stock:  Always Artichoke, Whisper White
  • Stamps:  A Wish for Peace, Music Notes standard wheel
  • DSP:  Deck the Halls (Holiday Mini sneak peek)
  • Accessories:  Always Artichoke ribbon (Holiday Mini sneak peek), Smooch Spritz (applied to the Whisper White layer), Shimmer Paint for the snow, Lots of Tags sizzlits die
  • Ink:  StazOn Black, Always Artichoke (for coloring the trees), Basic Black, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie
  • Tools:  Distressing kit, wheel guide

Card instructions:

  • Cut Always Artichoke card stock to 10 x 5.  Fold and score at the 5" with the fold on the top.
  • Cut the DSP to 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 and distress the edges and ink.  Adhere to card base
  • Run the Music Notes wheel over a piece of Always Artichoke – I wheeled it twice.  Cut the card stock just a little over the width of the wheeled image.  Adhere to card base.
  • Cut circle to fit focal image and cover with golden smooch spritz.  Allow to dry
  • Stamp the image from the A Wish for Peace set in StazOn.  Color trees with Always Artichoke.
  • Using Shimmer Paint, go over the trees to give the illusion of snow.  I use an old Blender Pen for this.
  • Adhere to backing circle with Stampin' Dimensionals and adhere to card base with dimensionals
  • Use rub-on for sentiment and adhere using dimensionals at the bottom and snail at the top.
  • Tie ribbon into a bow and adhere to card base over the top of the focal image

It sounds a lot of work – but it was really worth it.  The "hardest" part is waiting for the Shimmer Paint to dry!

Prayers for Trish, Germaine, Arthur, T, Pri, Angela, John and Sue.  Trish it was great to hear from you.  Stay strong my friend.

Thank you all for spending a little time in my area of the stamping blogosphere.  You know your visits, your support and your comments are greatly appreciated.

hugs

jaydee

  2. Be still my heart…while I take a deep breath and take all of this in. Wonderful, beautiful, gorgeous, and I don’t have the right words to describe my feelings for this Card! One very lucky Troop Member is going to rejoice when they receive this Card to send home. You are so very generous with your creativity and time. I love this card, can’t think of a thing I would change, just lovely. I didn’t know that we were doing such elaborate Cards for OWH, now I may just keep mine. Yours is certainly over the top. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. I am keeping this Sketch on File for future use. Now to head on over and see what the “others” have made.
Prayers to Everyone as I know you all appreciate them. Hi to all even if I don’t have time to visit your Blogs.
Super cyber hugs, Trish in Wisconsin
